The city’s zoning board gave the OK for Target signs on existing canopies on Smithfield Street and Fifth Avenue as well as other signs that’ll direct drivers to the garage. But the board denied a request for a 69-square-foot sign that was supposed to be suspended over the Fifth Avenue entrance to the Cherry Way tunnel. "If you are a mum and your baby is still in onesies, I have a mom hack for you," she said in the video. "Whip your onesies over, snap them, you can hang three on a hanger - not only does it create more space but you can also see what you have." Fellow mums were quick to praise Macy for the hack, with one writing: "Super smart!" "Omg I’m going to do this!" another wrote. "I was just thinking I don’t have enough drawer space." It was early October, and Campolindo was facing the possibility of having its worst season in over a decade. For the second time, the Cougars had been walloped at home, this time by Diablo Athletic League-Foothill Division rival Benicia 35-0. Campo was 3-3 after the Benicia defeat. Earlier in the season, the Cougars had been demolished by Aptos 49-0, also at home. A running clock was used for the entire second half. Coach Kevin Macy realized he needed to make changes. The running game became a bigger part of the offense. He preached the importance of being physical. The Cougars won their next seven games, including the North Coast Section Division II championship, before finally losing to McClymonds 40-21 in the CIF NorCal 3A regional. For this, Macy has been picked as the Bay Area News Group’s Coach of the Year. Macy, who has been the Cougars’ head man since 1996, is one of Northern California’s elite coaches. Campo has won at least 10 games in a season for 10 of the last 11 years. The...
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Have you noticed some of your favorite places to shop are short-staffed or closing early? The surge in Omicron cases is impacting businesses all over South Florida and beyond. LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two Los Angeles police officers who were fired in 2017 for playing the video game Pokémon GO while on the job, have been denied reinstatement by a judge.A surveillance system in their patrol car captured Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell discussing how to catch the Pokémon character "Snorlax" just a few minutes after saying "screw it" to responding to a robbery at a Macy's in the Crenshaw area of L.A., according to court documents.Their actions were investigated by an LAPD sergeant after Lozano and Mitchell failed to respond to radio calls and another officer saw their patrol car leave the area near Macy's. Both were fired after a police board of rights unanimously ruled that the officers committed misconduct that was "unprofessional and embarrassing" and "violated the trust of the public."The officers tried arguing that the patrol car recordings should be dismissed because they were private conversations, but both the lower court and the appeals court disagreed.City News Service contributed to this report.
Two LAPD cops who ignored calls to attend a robbery at a nearby Macy's to play Pokemon have failed in their bid to have their firing reversed.    California's court of appeals ruled Tuesday that Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were rightfully terminated in 2017 after refusing to go to the scene of a robbery at the Crenshaw mall, with Lozano responding: 'Aw, screw it.' Instead, the cops decided to hunt down a 'Snorlax' character that had appeared nearby on Pokemon Go, which lets players 'capture' virtual reality characters who pop up on a phone map of nearby locations. Players must then rush to that location in real life in order to 'capture' them. Different Pokemon are assigned different numbers of points, with rarer characters helping players bag far higher totals.   The pair insisted that they were not actually playing the game at the time, but on Friday a court denied their appeal, thanks to incriminating audio of the incident.  A Macy's store in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, was being robbed on April 15, 2017. Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were nearby, but...

The other six full-line locations should close by the end of the first quarter of 2022. "Stores remain an integral part of our omnichannel retail ecosystem," said a Macy's spokeswoman in a statement. "As our business evolves, we continue to optimize and reposition our store fleet to more effectively support our omnichannel sales growth and expand market share." Macy's will offer impacted workers at these locations severance packages or other roles at nearby stores, she said. The company declined to say how many employees work at these sites. In this article WRBY W M DKS DG BIRD A Dollar General store in Creve Coeur, Illinois.Daniel Acker | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesWayfair sees a chance to make a pivotal move. The furniture and home goods retailer plans to open three stores in Massachusetts next year. Chief Marketing Officer Bob Sherwin said low rents were a draw. But the need to have customers touch and feel its products and a desire to raise brand awareness also factored into the equation. "What we know is that customers love shopping online, but they also love to engage in person," said Sherwin. It wasn't that long ago when many would have thought it impossible to sell bulky items such as office chairs and patio furniture online. But in 2020, Wayfair's sales rose 55% from 2019 to $14.1 billion, fueled by shoppers looking to spruce up their homes during the coronavirus pandemic. In the last two quarters, however, Wayfair's quarterly sales have fallen year over year, as the company lapped those huge gains. Aside from pop-up shops, Wayfair hasn't had stores before. But...

As political polarization continues in the United States, a study produced by Ivy League sociologists suggests we may be heading toward a point of no return. A study led by Cornell professor Michael Macy claims to have identified a tipping point, beyond which the divide between factions in America will become irreversible. The study, titled 'Polarization and Tipping Points' was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.  The researchers' model shows the role party identity and levels of intolerance for disagreement have on ideological extremism and partisan divides.  'We found that polarization increases incrementally only up to a point,' said lead author Michael Macy, Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences in Sociology and director of the Social Dynamics Laboratory in the College of Arts and Sciences. A new study shows that political polarization - exemplified by groups like the Proud Boys and pro-defund the police liberals - could get to a tipping point where it becomes irreversible The study said that shock events like pandemics or war could initially bring people together but differing views over other...
London (CNN Business)For years, the future of the department store has been in doubt, as shoppers abandon malls and instead opt to scoop up dresses, appliances and accessories online. But some investors believe they've found a clever way for these once-mighty brands to move forward. What's happening: Activist shareholders are increasingly pushing retailers to spin off their e-commerce businesses, claiming this would help boost shares."The public market is not appreciating Kohl's in its current form," Engine Capital, an activist fund, said in a letter to Kohl's board of directors published Monday. "There is no excuse for the Board to cling to the status quo." The activist group sent a letter to Kohl's board on Sunday, the report said. Engine Capital owns a roughly 1% stake in Kohl's. Kohl's shares closed Friday at $48.45, roughly where they were trading a decade ago, giving Kohl's a market value of about $7.3 billion — less than that of Macy's but more than Nordstrom's. Kohl's stock is up about 19% year to date, underperforming the S&P 500. According to WSJ, Engine Capital said in its letter that assuming Kohl's brings in online sales revenue of about $6.2...

There were floats, there were balloons, there were Broadway musical numbers, there were crowds standing shoulder to shoulder; after a dismal 2020 showing, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade returned to its pre-pandemic glory Thursday morning. “Spectators, shut out in 2020, lined the route again,” hailed the Associated Press. “High school and college marching bands from around the country were invited back to the lineup; most of last year’s performers were locally based to cut down on travel. The giant balloons, tethered to vehicles last year, got their costumed handlers back.” Though the Thanksgiving Day Parade went forward as planned in 2020, the show was marked by a noticeable absence of cheering crowds, high school marching bands from around the country, and the 2.5-mile parade route. Here’s how NBC New York advertised the event at the time: Although we are used to seeing the masses come together to see the grandiose balloons making their way down the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route, this year the celebration will be a bit different. READ MORE: Preview Of The Macy's Thanksgiving Day ParadeAhh, the splendor, pageantry and helium-filled magnificence. The Macy’s parade started in 1924 and was only two blocks long.
