The kindness was overwhelming. “I mean I was basically in tears because it was just so unexpected,” Troidl said. They say colleagues talked about the greeting all day. “One nurse said it’s going to be such a good day, we’re going to have a great day no matter what happens,” Webb said. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Two Minnesota hospitals still dealing with an influx in patients with COVID-19 and other needs say assistance from military medical teams has been critical over last month’s surge. St. Cloud Hospital and Hennepin County Medical Center welcome a 30-day extension of that aid. The two teams of 22 members of the military, mostly of the U.S. Air Force, began their work on around Thanksgiving Day, stayed through Christmas and now will be here through the end of January. In many ways, I’m extremely privileged when it comes to surviving the COVID-19 pandemic—I work remotely, have excellent employer-provided health insurance, and I don’t live with any chronic health conditions. From the time people started staying home and staying safe, I was socializing less, sure, but in many ways, my life was the same: work, read, get a (solo) walk in, cook, bake, write, repeat. One thing that didn’t stay the same, however, was my mental health. Spoiler: It got way worse.  I can’t blame the pandemic entirely, though I think it’s fair to think the overall conditions and stress of pandemic life exacerbated my lifelong anxiety. I’d been in therapy off and on in recent years, and while it helped, it wasn’t quite enough. I sought out a psychiatrist through a virtual health care website (this was actually completely free, thanks again to my insurance) and got a prescription for an antidepressant that works well for both anxiety and depression. I had a lot of dread—I’d read horror stories about how psychiatric medications caused a litany of negative side effects, turned...

So I’m sorry you have to be away. We know what it’s like for your families to have that empty seat at the table like we had.” The Bidens continued by offering their sympathies to military families who experienced with the same separation they’ve felt during the holidays seasons. The president spoke of how those feelings were particularly poignant during birthdays and family celebrations of all kinds. “As your commander in chief, I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank...

(CBS4) – A mother from Kansas praised a Colorado State Trooper for pulling her son over after he was speeding. In a handwritten letter, the woman, identified as Ronda, says the encounter was “a valuable lesson.” Ronda explains she and her sister both lost their husbands to cancer, and the three children in the vehicle lost their fathers. She was appreciative of Troop Voss’ care and concern for the driver’s behavior behind the wheel, sharing how dangerous it could be driving through Colorado’s mountains. “You made them think about what may happen if they couldn’t slow down in the mountains,” she stated. “You showed genuine care and concern for us!” Ronda says the message was heard loud and clear, and her son slowed down and was more cautious. “It kind of felt like their dads had sent you to teach them a valuable lesson.”
