Marlon Bundo, the Pence family's pet rabbit who inspired multiple children's books, has died.    The sad news was announced on Saturday by former Vice President Mike Pence's daughter, Charlotte Pence Bond, on Twitter.  The bunny shot to fame when it became the main character in Marlon Bundo's A Day in the Life of a Vice President - written by Pence's daughter Charlotte and illustrated by his wife Karen and published in 2018. It aimed to teach children about the role of the VP by showing a day in his life through the eyes of BOTUS as he 'hops after 'Grampa' (Mike Pence)'.  Bundo even had his own Instagram account and earned the nickname BOTUS - or Bunny of the United States - during Pence's term as Vice President.  The Pences released another book featuring Marlon's adventures, entitled Best Christmas Ever in October 2019.  Marlon was also featured in Last Week Tonight's John Oliver's parody book A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo. He was the death-wish killer who pleaded to be allowed to face a firing squad – and his final words before he was shot inspired one of the world's best-known marketing slogans.  Gary Gilmore was executed in Utah state prison on this day in 1977 after being sentenced to death in October 1976 for the murder of a motel clerk. Unlike most death row inmates, Gilmore had famously demanded to be killed as soon as possible. In the seconds before he got his wish, his final words were: 'Let's do it'. In 2015, advertising executive Dan Wieden said that Gilmore's words had inspired him to dream up sportswear giant Nike's famous 'Just Do It' slogan. He recalled how, in 1988 just before a crunch marketing campaign meeting with Nike bosses, he decided to suggest a slightly altered version of Gilmore's words as the firm's tag line. Just Do It, which is still Nike's slogan, was first used in adverts that same year and has since been described as one of the best taglines of the 20th century. Gilmore's case was...
(CNN)We honor Martin Luther King's memory every January, but there are still so many things most people do not know about his life. For example, in his family and among his closest friends, he was known to be lighthearted and humorous. He made fun of his older sister for taking things too seriously, he always tried to lighten the mood and avoid confrontation. As a youth, he was a prankster who would hide behind a bush with his mother's furs tied to a stick, waiting to jump out at people as they walked past his childhood home. Anna Malaika TubbsHe was not some superhero but a real person who risked his life for a larger cause. He was a human being who, just like the rest of us, was influenced by his own experiences and shaped by the generations of family members who came before him, the city he was born in and most importantly, the mother who birthed him. All of us are shaped by our mothers to some extent, but in King's case, the presence of his...

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) – State Sen. Brittany Pettersen, a Democratic Colorado state senator, on Tuesday announced her intention to run for the open 7th Congressional District seat in the 2022 election. She sent out a tweet saying she plans to “fight for the hardworking people of the new 7th Congressional District.” State Sen. Brittany Pettersen (credit: CBS) The announcement comes a day after the announcement by Democrat Rep. Ed Perlmutter that he will not be running for reelection. Pettersen, who lives in Jefferson County, previously put her hat in the ring for the Democratic primary for the seat during a brief period in 2017 when Perlmutter said he was retiring but then backtracked. Inspired by her mother’s struggle with addiction, Pettersen championed Colorado legislation that was passed last year that focuses on behavioral health care. The law is aimed at transforming pain management and requires insurers to cover things like acupuncture and physical therapy in the same way as primary care. Born in Detroit to a Dutch mother and an African American father, Maria went to school in Detroit before making her debut in a Metropolitan Opera production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.   A soprano and mezzo-soprano known for her intense performances, Ewing met Sir Peter, a founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company and then director of the National Theatre, while performing at Glyndebourne in 1979 and the pair fell 'madly in love', despite Hall being married to his second wife at the time.  They had daughter Rebecca, who recently revealed her maternal grandfather's experience as a biracial man who 'passed' as white and raised his children, including Maria, as white, informed her directorial debut, Passing, which tells the story about two light-skinned Black women who also 'pass'. The recognizable face and distinct voice of Emmy-award-winning TV host Mike Rowe, known for taking on some of the most difficult and unglamorous tasks on "Dirty Jobs," joined Tucker Carlson on Fox Nation to discuss the show's reboot and how he got started highlighting the forgotten blue-collar workers of America nearly two decades ago. Rowe described growing up in a Baltimore community next door to his grandfather, who dropped out of school in the seventh grade only to become a "master electrician" and skilled craftsman by the time he was 30. "He was one of those geniuses who could take your watch apart blindfolded and put it back together, fix anything, build anything," Rowe recalled in Monday's episode of "Tucker Carlson Today." "He was a magician, and I kind of grew up in his shadow with my mom and dad." But Rowe learned quickly that he did not inherit the natural gift of working with his hands as he had hoped. "The handy gene, as you may have noticed, is recessive. And as certain as I was that I would...

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, speaks during a hearing, with the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, on the COVID-19 response, on Capitol Hill on March 18, 2021. It’s hard to believe the media training Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, allegedly sought out from a Democratic consultant is paying off. The director, who started her position last January, has been criticized time and time again for ever-changing CDC guidance issued in light of the coronavirus pandemic and more poignantly how she communicates said guidance. Such was the case when she appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America on Friday to address criticism following the CDC's new recommendation that those who have had a positive COVID-19 test only need to isolate for five days, down from an initial 14 days and an earlier reduction to 10 days. The journalist interviewing Walensky cited a new study showing how well vaccines are working to prevent new illnesses before she asked: “Is it time to start rethinking how we’re living with this virus, that it’s potentially hear to...
American history is filled with trailblazers, from Thomas Edison and Henry Ford to Albert Einstein and the Wright Brothers. According to Discovery+’s “Shock Docs” true-crime series, we should presumably add to that illustrious list paranormal expert Steve Shippy and “world renowned psychic medium” Cindy Kaza, who after conversing with serial killer Ed Gein in this past April’s Ed Gein: The Real Psycho now attempt to chat with another famous fiend who inspired a popular horror movie franchise—Danny Rolling, aka the Gainesville Ripper—in Scream: The True Story (Jan. 14). Armed with a variety of ghost-detecting gizmos and Kaza’s preternatural abilities, they “speak” with the deceased and cleanse haunted abodes of demonic energy, along the way helping both the living and the dead transcend their lingering trauma. They’re pioneers in the field of supernatural investigation—provided, of course, that one believes the abject hokum they’re hawking. Only the naivest individuals will take Scream: The True Story seriously, given that it’s primarily comprised of scenes in which Shippy and Kaza putz around in the dark, telling each other scary stories about real-life...
NEW YORK -- Entrepreneurs Coco & Breezy weren't always the fearless models, DJs, and designers they are today. Growing up in Minnesota, they often felt like they didn't fit in."Growing up being little Black girls, we didnt have women that were shown on TV or media that looked like us," says Brianna "Breezy" Dotson. She and her sister, Corianna "Coco" Dotson, started designing eyewear as teenagers as a way to stand out and feel more confident, as they were often bullied for the color of their skin. After leaving Minnesota and moving to New York, their eyewear quickly went viral, especially after Prince wore their iconic "Third Eye" sunglasses during his November 2014 Saturday Night Live appearance and November 2015 American Music Awards performance. Coco and Breezy's eyewear has since graced the faces of celebrities like Beyoncé, Rhianna, Lady Gaga, and many others. With Zenni, Coco and Breezy created an eyewear line for conscious kids called Planet CB. Each stylish frame is named with a positive affirmation, such as "I am brave" or "I am fearless" and includes a write-your-own affirmation...

A NASCAR sponsorship deal inspired by the anti-Joe Biden 'Let's Go Brandon' chant has been rejected after the auto-racing circuit allegedly gave prior approval of the agreement. According to Brandonbilt Motorsports, officials flip-flopped on the deal that would have seen team driver Brandon Brown racing a red-white-and-blue Chevy sponsored by cryptocurrency brand LGBcoin in NASCAR's second-tier Xfinity Series. 'Let's Go Brandon' became a euphemism for 'f*** Joe Biden' after an on-air reporter mistook NASCAR fans' profane chants against the President for a chorus of support for Brown following his first win on October 2 at Talladega. NASCAR has not released a statement on the decision, but one source has confirmed to DailyMail.com that the agreement was officially rejected on Tuesday. The source added that Brandonbilt Motorsports was informed during an in-person meeting on November 5 that derogatory or vulgar euphemisms would be prohibited in any sponsorship deal. But in a Brandonbilt Motorsports statement, spokesman Max Marcucci insisted the team had already received approval from NASCAR in a deal that was announced on December 30. NASCAR driver Brandon Brown is now being sponsored by a cryptocurrency named after the politically charged 'Let's Go Brandon' chant he unwittingly inspired, days after complaining that the phrase had cost him sponsorships.   'I'm excited to welcome @LGBcoin_io aboard my No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro as our 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series full season primary partner!' Brown announced on Twitter Thursday.  Brandon shared a glossy video of himself walking up to his red, white and blue shevy emblazoned with the LGBCoin logo.  Brown, 28, unintentionally sparked the phrase the national anti-Biden chant after NBC sports reporter Kelli Stavast confused the crowd jeering 'F*** Joe Biden' for 'Let's Go Brandon!' at a NASCAR event in Alabama on October 2. The driver spoke out last week about the effect the chant had on his professional career, saying he's hard time finding sponsors and is viewed as a ticking time bomb despite never expressing any political views, beyond disclosing that he is a Republican.  But he now appears to have warmed to his unintentional notoriety, after the phrase swept the national consciousness.  'We are proud to...

By JANIE HAR | The Associated Press SAN JOSE – Tram Pham tears up recalling how tough life was at first in the U.S. But she also remembers the joy she felt as a 22-year-old refugee from Vietnam when a nurse spoke to her in her native language and guided her through a medical screening required of new arrivals. Silent Night youtu.be Phil Keaggy A guitarist like no other — always in the conversation as among the world's best — Phil Keaggy has released a few Christmas albums over his long career, but for my money his finest is an offering alongside the London Festival Orchestra: " Majesty & Wonder: An Instrumental Christmas." NASCAR driver Brandon Brown has said he has 'zero desire to be involved in politics' after a chant bearing his name became a political meme. Speaking in a column for the New York Times Brown explains how initially it was 'kind of funny' how the chant 'Let's go Brandon' had gone viral, but as it started to spread further, adopted by Republicans to specifically insult President Joe Biden, he became uncomfortable at the association.  'Politics can be hazardous to your ability to make money,' columnist Ben Smith describes the racing car driver's problem.
