In her "Ingraham Angle" commentary on Tuesday, host Laura Ingraham compared and contrasted two world-famous men: Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Dr. Anthony Fauci.  Fauci, 81, and Brady, 44, are internationally recognizable and arguably at the top of their selected professions, Ingraham noted, adding that both men also have been working in their roles for record amounts of time.  Brady entered the National Football League in 2000 alongside famous but long-retired names like Brian Urlacher, Plaxico Burress, and Sebastian Janikowski — while Fauci joined the federal medical bureaucracy in 1968 when Lyndon Johnson was president and gasoline was 34 cents per gallon. Fauci was later appointed by then-President Reagan to his current role in 1984. "Both men stayed longer than anyone who came before them, and both are admired widely by journalists who cover their world, and both are at a crossroads: Getting to the end of the line," Ingraham said, as Brady takes time to plot his future. Lena Dunham's first film in over a decade has been roundly slammed by critics and viewers as they called for 'less sex, more sense'. Sharp Stick, which centres around a 26-year-old's sexual awakening after her development was interrupted by a hysterectomy at age 17, premiered over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, and is the American director's second movie after Tiny Furniture 12 years ago. But any hope of The Girls co-creator’s comeback being a huge success has been dealt a serious blow by scathing reviews and social media verdicts published on both sides of the Atlantic. The Guardian gave Sharp Stick a damning two-star review, labelling it a 'misjudged experiment', while Entertainment Weekly said: 'Dunham stumbles with a strange, tone-deaf coming-of-age'. (CNN)Best known for "Friday Night Lights," producer Jason Katims has crafted another small coming-of-age gem with "As We See It," adapting an Israeli series about a trio of 20-somethings on the autism spectrum, trying to find purpose and independence. Heartbreaking and touching in its central characters' vulnerability, this Amazon series deserves to be seen and celebrated.Featuring actors who are indeed on the spectrum, the show focuses on three young adults sharing an apartment, overseen by an aide, Mandy (Sosie Bacon), who deeply cares about them, while wrestling with a decision about whether to move on in pursuit of another opportunity. For the main characters, things taken for granted represent major challenges, whether that's holding down a job -- and curbing the impulse to tell your boss that you're smarter than he is, as Jack (Rick Glassman) does in the premiere episode -- or simply walking to the corner, for Harrison (Albert Rutecki) a process made terrifying by loud noises like revving motorcycles or barking dogs.Violet (Sue Ann Pien), meanwhile, is working at Arby's, where the absence of the usual filters prompts...

NEW YORK (AP) — Fred Parris, the lead singer of the 1950s harmony group the Five Satins and composer of the classic doo-wop ballad “In the Still of the Night,” has died at age 85. Parris died Jan. 13 after a brief illness, according to his music manager, Pat Marafiote. Parris and his wife Emma lived in Hamden, Connecticut, not far from his native New Haven. Parris was in his late teens, and on military guard duty in Philadelphia, when thoughts of his girlfriend inspired an early rock standard. Parris and his fellow Satins recorded the song in the basement of St. Bernadette Church in New Haven, the finished track featuring a dreamlike saxophone solo by Vinny Mazzetta (an altar boy at the church) and Parris’ soulful baritone playing off the backing chants of ”shoo-doo-shooby-doo.” Released in 1956, “In the Still of the Night” only reached No. 24 on the Billboard pop charts but became a multimillion seller through reissues and appearances on compilation and soundtrack albums and now helps define an era of harmony groups along...
A MARKER in your eye could reveal if you’re at risk of an early death, scientists say. Their discovery means they could predict who may die within a decade before any obvious signs of ill health. 1Scientists say they can predict if someone is likely to die in the next ten years by looking at their eye healthCredit: Alamy Researchers say the retina, tissue which sits at the back of the eye, can give clues about a person’s health. Damage to the nerves and blood vessels in the retina may be an early warning sign of disease. Already it is known that factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and poor diet are implicated in eye disorders, such as macular degeneration. The new research suggests if the retina is ageing faster than the person themselves, it may forewarn an early death. Scientists from China and Australia called this the “retinal age gap”. They tested their “eye-opening” theory on thousands of Brits. Those with the largest retinal age gaps of 10 years were up to 67 per cent more...

Mrs Astor, the formidable Queen Bee of New York society, knew exactly where to drawn the line — and ‘shopkeepers’, even Manhattan’s finest and richest, were most definitely not top-drawer enough for her. ‘I buy my carpets from them’, she once pronounced contemptuously when planning a private ball at home, ‘but is that any reason why I should invite them in to walk on them?’ So she snubbed Andrew Stewart, a department store owner with a fortune reckoned to put him among the 20 wealthiest people in history, wealthier even than Bill Gates today. The ringing remark with which she did so was worthy of the magnificent Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey — played by Maggie Smith — in its towering snobbery.
