(CNN)New signs of a fracture between the US and Ukraine over the imminence of a possible Russian invasion could seriously undermine President Joe Biden's muscular front against Vladimir Putin in their escalating standoff.Frustration in Kyiv has mounted in recent days over escalating US rhetoric on the crisis, even as Moscow pours more troops into positions near the Ukrainian border. Washington and its allies have been waging an unusually open and vocal public relations warfare campaign -- an approach that primarily appears rooted in genuine fears of a major conflagration in Ukraine. But there are clear signs that the strategy is also designed to pile pressure on Putin and to sharpen his strategic dilemma while compelling US allies in Europe into taking tougher stands. It may offer political cover to Biden by showing that he was not caught off guard if Russia does invade. The strategy also shields a President, who is wobbling at home, from attacks by Republican hawks keen to portray him as a weak appeaser ahead of midterm elections. Yet it also threatens to cause a clash between...

(CNN)Talks between former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark and the House select committee investigating January 6 remain on ice nearly two months after the panel gave him a second chance to appear or face possible contempt charges. Clark has not heard from the committee since his deposition was delayed in early December but still expects to invoke the Fifth Amendment when that meeting takes place, a source familiar with the situation tells CNN. The committee moved late last year to hold Clark in contempt of Congress for defying his subpoena but then gave him another opportunity to meet with House investigators. That deposition then was postponed because of a "medical condition" that prevented him from participating. Top aide to Mark Meadows met with January 6 committeeThe committee has been tight-lipped about any plans related to Clark since mid-December, but another source familiar with the investigation tells CNN they expect his appearance to be rescheduled very soon.Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson told reporters last week that the panel has not yet rescheduled Clark's deposition because "he's still sick."Read More"He's had some challenges,...
Getty Joe Rogan & Neil Young Streaming platform Spotify has answered musician Neil Young’s ultimatum concerning podcaster Joe Rogan. And they’ve sided with Rogan. According to Inquirer, “The Joe Rogan Experience” was the most listened to podcast in 2021, boasting millions of unique listeners every episode. In what was an estimated $100 million deal between Rogan and Spotify, “JRE” began streaming exclusively on the platform in January 2021. Rogan is known for having a wide spectrum of guests on his podcast, ranging from mixed martial artists to climate specialists, and comedians to epidemiologists. On December 21, 2021, Rogan released episode No. 1757 of his podcast, which featured Dr. Robert Malone, a scientist and physician who helped pioneer the mRNA technology which was used to develop the United State’s most prominent COVID-19 vaccines, specifically the Pfizer–BioNTech and Moderna vaccines. During the podcast, Malone was critical of the vaccines’ safety and made the claim that Americans have fallen under “mass formation psychosis” due to COVID-19 rhetoric being spread by the media and government figures. A few weeks after the podcast...
Two of the nation's top doctors said they refuse to give their own kids a third COVID shot as vaccinated teenage boys have a low risk of hospitalization, but the likelihood of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart, caused by the jab is 10 out of 100,000. Dr. Monica Gandhi, an infectious-disease specialist at the University of California, and Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a member of the FDA's vaccine advisory committee, told Bari Weiss in her most recent Substack that the benefits of a booster for teen males are outweighed by the possible side effects.  One of the most common serious side effects for a teen from a COVID booster jab was myocarditis, a rare heart inflammation case that occurs mostly in males, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which had recorded two such cases among a group of 20,000 while vaccinated teen boys only had a 0.3 out of 100,000 chances of being hospitalized over COVID.  The doctors claimed the CDC was premature in advising teens...

A Los Angeles party promoter and producer suspected of playing a role in the deaths of a married model and her friend is asking a judge to lower his $3.4million bail stemming from unrelated rape charges spanning a decade. David Pearce, 37, was arrested last month in connection with the drug overdose deaths of Christy Giles, 24, and her Mexican architect friend, Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, 26, but he has yet to be charged with any offense in that case. The women were last seen alive in the company of the film producer during a warehouse party in November. Giles' lifeless body was left outside a hospital on November 13, while Cabrales-Arzola was found clinging to life at another hospital, where she died after two weeks in a coma. Jesse Watters focused on the “antiwork” movement Wednesday evening by interviewing Doreen Ford, the moderator of the wildly popular r/Antiwork subreddit. Unfortunately for Ford, and for antiwork enthusiasts who subscribe to that particular section of the social news aggregator, the interview went so poorly that the subreddit went to “private” mode as a result of “brigading” from other Reddit users. What is “brigading,” you say? Writing for Bloomberg, Lindsey Rupp and Claire Ballentine explain it as “users from another subreddit conducting a coordinated campaign to disrupt another group.” It turns out that Ford’s appearance in Watters’ World went so poorly that many in the Reddit community felt it embarrassed them into shaming the subreddit he moderates. Confused? Well until yesterday, the Antiwork subreddit was among Reddit’s most active and engaged pages, seeing explosive growth during the Covid-19 pandemic. What felt like equal parts worker rights movement and ironically detached performance art, the Antiwork subreddit grew to 1.6 million subscribers over the past two years. Like many subreddits, many posts featured serious issues and support, while there were also a lot of...

Another lamented: "Megan just unfollowed Nicki and Doja, nah my ship is sinking". Megan had previously teamed up with Nicki for her 2019 hit "Hot Girl Summer” and had previously made no secret of her delight with the collaboration as she gushed over her credentials and “amazing” contribution to the hit.   Most read in...
NEW YORK (AP) — Jason Rivera was no stranger to the tensions between New York City cops and some of the communities they police. Growing up in a Dominican neighborhood in Manhattan, he’d seen it up close, like when his brother got pulled from a taxi and frisked for what felt like no reason. Wilbert Mora, too, knew it from his youth in East Harlem, and spent his college years thinking about ways to address it. Both sought to be catalysts of change when they joined the police force. Neither got the chance they deserved. Both were fatally wounded last Friday by a gunman who ambushed the officers after they responded to a call about a family dispute at a Harlem apartment. Thousands of mourners were expected Thursday at Rivera’s wake at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which will also host his funeral Mass on Friday, with Cardinal Timothy Dolan presiding. The 22-year-old had been a police officer for barely a year. Mora, 27, was in his fourth year on the job. His wake and funeral Mass were planned for next week,...

When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit, fitness folks hopped onto stationary bikes at home while gyms were closed.   As virtual bike workouts increased, a recent media report stated how female cyclists participating in spin classes have been experiencing urinary incontinence possibly linked to their cycling routine.  Health experts told Fox News that pressure from the bicycle seat on the perineum (the genital area) may contribute to problems with urinary incontinence, sexual arousal, and trigger genital pain and numbness in some female and male cyclists.   Dr Philippa Kaye wrote about the possible link between spin classes and women’s incontinence in a recent media report for the outlet the Daily Mail.  Cropped shot of fitness woman working out on exercise bike at the gym. As tensions between the United States and Russia continue to go from simmer to boil, New Yorker editor David Remnick warned that the world could see massive bloodshed if the Ukraine situation ends up leading to insurgency and conflict. Remnick joined Morning Joe on Wednesday, where he began by assessing the authoritarian motivations of Vladimir Putin. He made his points by referring to Russia’s repeated incursions into Ukraine over the last decade, plus he hypothesized that Putin is setting off tensions with Europe as a means to expand the “propaganda war” he maintains within Russia. “He is holding a nation hostage, a democratic nation that troubles him, because he is angry, in retrospect, about the past,” Remnick said. “Putin, who is a failure in so many ways domestically, is able to use the propaganda of his own airwaves and his official publications — which takes up 90 percent plus or more of all press discourse. He is fighting a propaganda war to say that it is Russia that is encircled, Russia that is endangered, Russia is the victim.” Mika Brzezinski...

As Lieutenant-Colonel Yuriy Trubachiov crunched thr-ough the thick snow, he pointed out to me the camera tower, the anti-tank moat, the mounds of shovelled earth and the razor-wire fences separating Ukraine from Russia. 'We're our country's first line of defence,' he told me. 'We're getting ready for all sorts of scenarios to ensure that we protect our borders.' This might seem a daunting task with huge numbers of Russian troops massing beyond the fields and forests in the distance and amid rapidly escalating talk of invasion – but the veteran border officer said his men are ready to repel Vladimir Putin's forces. 'We've been getting prepared for this moment for eight years. We knew it might come one day and we feel fully prepared.' In 2014, an attempt was made to capture the nearby city of Kharkiv when the Kremlin covertly backed separatists in the eastern region of Ukraine. But the forces were defeated and the country's former capital stayed loyal, unlike two other major cities in the Russian-speaking eastern regions. Now Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia...

SACRAMENTO —  Gov. Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers reached an agreement Tuesday to again require employers to provide workers with up to two weeks of supplemental paid sick leave to recover from COVID-19 or care for a family member with the virus. The legislation, which lawmakers would likely fast-track to the governor in the coming weeks, would apply to all businesses with 26 or more employees. A similar law from 2021 that provided 80 hours of supplemental paid sick leave expired Sept. 30. Labor unions pushed the new proposal at the Capitol as California grapples with the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. State officials hope the deal, which also boosts early budget funding for COVID-19 response to $1.8 billion, will encourage workers with the virus to stay home and help slow transmission. Companies across California would have to absorb the costs of additional paid time off for workers. In an attempt to help some businesses, the agreement includes separate proposals to restore tax credits that were suspended and capped two years ago when state officials feared the pandemic...
A new study led by researchers at UC Davis shows a significant difference in the gut bacteria between Black women and white women, something that seems to be linked to insulin sensitivity. The study, published in PLOS One, found that when accounting for differences in BMI, insulin resistance was more widespread in Black women than in white women. Obesity is more prevalent in Black female populations in the U.S. which results in higher type 2 diabetes rates, but even when factoring in for the weight differences, Black women were still found to have higher levels of insulin resistance. In a press release, professor Candice Price said, “We investigated whether gut microbiome profiles differ between Black and white women and if so, do these race differences persist when accounting for insulin sensitivity status.” “By characterizing the gut microbiome in Black women, researchers might understand the health disparities in the development of heart and metabolic diseases in this population,” Price added. For the study, researchers used stool samples from 94 Black women and 74 white women to determine levels of bacteria,...

Ukraine has sent troops to guard against any Russian incursion on the Chernobyl exclusion zone, with the highly radioactive site believed to be a potential entry point for Kremlin aggressors.  Despite the site in northern Ukraine still being radioactive and mainly harbouring ghost towns and fallow fields, the Chernobyl exclusion zone is believed to be at risk of being conquered, reports The New York Times.    This is because the shortest path from Russia to Kiev would take Putin's troops through the isolated zone. In preparation for a potential Russian incursion into the exclusion zone, which was established after a reactor meltdown in 1986, Ukrainian troops are currently patrolling the snowy forests and abandoned streets of Chernobyl, equipped with Kalashnikov rifles - as well as equipment to detect radiation exposure. Lt. Col. Yuri Shakhraichuk of the Ukrainian border guard service told The New York Times: 'It doesn't matter if it is contaminated or nobody lives here.   It is feared the Kremlin could send troops into Ukraine entering from the north - which would take them past the irradiated area on the...

Friday on ABC News’ “Good Morning America,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken sounded off on the growing tension between Russia and Ukraine. According to Blinken, “it’s ultimately going to be President [Vladimir] Putin who decides” if the two nations go to war. He added that any Russian aggression “will have serious consequences.” “Bottom line, are we further or closer away from war?” host George Stephanopoulos asked. “You really have to ask President Putin,” Blinken replied. “It’s ultimately going to be President Putin who decides what Russia will do. But here’s where we are: Based on what we’ve heard in the last couple of weeks, we will put in writing both some deep concerns that we and other allies and partners have about Russia’s actions, not just with regard to Ukraine but more broadly when it comes to things that it does to threaten security. We’ll address some of the concerns that Russia has raised with us, and we’ll put some ideas on the table for how we might actually strengthen each other’s sense of security going forward. And then based on...
In recognition of National Children’s Dental Health Month, CareMount Dental is working to raise awareness on the connection between a child’s oral health and their overall health. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), parents should sign their child up for a dental visit in year one of their life when their first tooth erupts. Babies start using their teeth as early as the first growth for breastfeeding purposes and can develop dental issues as early as their first year. As they grow older, early childhood caries (ECC) can develop which is a rapid form of tooth decay and is also the most common chronic childhood disease. According to the CDC, about 1 of 5 (20%) children aged 5–11 years have at least one untreated decayed tooth, and about 1 of 7 (13%) adolescents aged 12–19 years have at least one untreated decayed tooth. Tooth decay can lead to distraction in school, poor self-esteem, and can have behavioral impacts. Using their network of resources...
As Merrick Garland explained in his big speech earlier this month, the way to dismantle a criminal conspiracy is to start at the bottom and work up. It’s a slow process, but it can be devastatingly effective. That’s why the fifty-nine Republicans who cast fake electoral votes are a gift to investigators seeking to understand Trump’s role in the plot to overturn the 2020 election. These pseudo-electors impersonated public officials in a bid to overturn a presidential election. They signed forged paperwork and sent it to the government. It’s an open-and-shut case, but investigators could parlay this into something much bigger than prison terms for a few dozen local GOP operatives. In a group of nearly 60 people facing serious prison time, at least some of them will be willing to implicate the higher ups to save themselves. The FBI raid on the Texas home and campaign headquarters of Rep. Henry Cuellar is reportedly related to a criminal probe into ties between several US businessmen and the former Soviet state of Azerbaijan. On Friday, federal agents were seen at Cuellar's home in Laredo, photographing trucks parked outside and removing boxes, bins, bags and a computer from the house. The FBI would only confirm that it is conducting an 'ongoing investigation', but a source told ABC News that the raid was related to a federal grand jury investigation into possible crimes related to Azerbaijan.  It's still not clear whether Cuellar himself is a subject or target of the probe, and he has vowed to cooperate with any investigation.  The nine-term Democrat is co-chair of the Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus, an obscure group dedicated to furthering relations with the oil-rich nation on the Caspian Sea. In that role, Cuellar is known to have met repeatedly with Azerbaijan officials, including the country's ambassador to the US, Elin Suleymanov.  Rep. On Thursday, President Joe Biden and his administration frantically walked back an incredibly dangerous blunder that he made less than 24 hours ago. Sitting behind a desk and reading from a script on Thursday, Biden pretended that yesterday didn't happen. 'Well, let me start by first getting a few words about Russia and Ukraine,' he said, looking down to read, 'I've been absolutely clear with President Putin. He has no misunderstanding, if any, any assembled Russian units move across the Ukrainian border, that is an invasion.' The problem is that yesterday, when he wasn't reading from a script, he said something completely different. 'I think what you're going to see is that Russia will be held accountable if it invades,' Biden said on Wednesday at the second press conference of his presidency. 'And it depends on what it does. It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do, et cetera.' Biden may not have intended to give Vladimir Putin a green light for small hit-and-run attacks,...
OAKLAND — A man died in East Oakland  Wednesday night after he was found pinned between the door of a stolen pickup truck and a power pole, police said,. Police were trying to confirm the man’s name and determine where he lived.  He appeared to be in his 30s. The man was found about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of 75th Avenue, pinned between the driver side door  of a Ford F350 pickup truck and a power pole, police said. Roseanne Barr's daughter Jenny Pentland has opened up about the stark contrast between the 'parallel' version of her family's life that played out on her mother's hit sitcom and their post-fame reality.   In an excerpt from her new memoir, 'This Will Be Funny Later,' published by HuffPost, the 45-year-old detailed how the ABC series 'Roseanne' was based on her family, saying her mom played Roseanne Conner, 'a prime-time friendly version of herself.'   Pentland's father Bill was the inspiration for Roseanne's husband Dan, while the characters of Becky, Darlene, and D.J. were based on her, her sister Jessica, and her little brother Jake. Jackie was inspired by Barr's sister Geraldine.  But the comedian's meteoric rise to fame led to a different reality behind the scenes, including infidelity, a public divorce, multiple marriages, troubled children, and an illegitimate daughter who was put up for adoption.  Jenny Pentland, 45, opened up about how the ABC series 'Roseanne' was based on her family in an excerpt from her new memoir, 'This Will Be Funny Later' Pentland's mother Roseanne Barr played Roseanne Conner (far left), 'a...
