As for vaccine opponents, Goodman declared that they use "absolutely false, conspiracy-theory laden arguments" and called them "clearly a lost cause, embracing an anti-science and anti-truth ideology with a fervor rarely seen since the advent of the Enlightenment." He added that he believes "the positives of the vaccines greatly outweigh the negatives" and that his children are fully vaccinated. Plus, Goodman said he "received a booster shot a few days ago. So far, I’m feeling okay. Instead of an mRNA vaccine, I took the Johnson & Johnson shot, which is a viral-vector vaccine less associated with pericarditis." He added in his op-ed that he hopes by telling his story of battling a serious vaccine side-effect that the "vaccine hesitant" might also get the shots. How are readers reacting to Goodman's vaccine stance? Goodman's op-ed so far has elicited a wide-range of reactions. Some commenters agree with him; some don't. And still others are engaging in debates with each other: "Mass Formation Psychosis in action," one commenter wrote, after which another commenter linked to...

A new adaptation of Jules Verne classic Around The World In 80 Days has been dismissed as 'woke nonsense' by furious BBC license payers.  The eight-part adaptation starring David Tennant as globetrotting Phileas Fogg launched on Boxing Day, but a series of socially conscious tweaks to the legendary tale left viewers choking on their turkey sandwiches.   Two notable departures from Verne's original 1872 text sees Passepartout, Fogg's loyal valet, played by a black actor - French star Ibrahim Koma - while Detective Fix also gets a modern-day makeover.  Traditionally a suspicious Scotland yard inspector, the male character is transformed into aspiring female journalist and full-time feminist Abigail ‘Fix’ Fortescue, played by French actress Leonie Benesch.  Not happy: A new adaptation of Jules Verne classic Around The World In 80 Days has been dismissed as 'woke' by furious BBC license payers But the fresh take didn't do down well with fans of the novel, and many were quick to air their grievances over the colour-blind casting on social media.  RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next Myleene Klass shows off her...
By Jocelyn Noveck | Associated Press His hair is graying. His nerves are fraying. Denzel Washington’s Macbeth is a man quite literally running out of time — even before he meets those witches. At 66, Washington is certainly at the older end of the spectrum of conceivable Macbeths. But it makes wonderful sense: In Joel Coen’s brilliantly imagined, brilliantly executed “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” we confront a man who knows in his bones — his aching bones — that the witches’ prophecy has given him his last chance to be what wants, no, deserves! King of Scotland. For an actor of Washington’s unique skill set, not to mention facility with Shakespearean verse, Macbeth at any age would be right, frankly. But there’s something wonderful about the fact that it took this long, with all the experience and seasoning Washington now brings to bear. Still, this isn’t simply a matter of an actor meeting a role at the right time. No matter how cursed or unlucky the so-called “Scottish play” is in theater lore, the stars seem to be aligned here....

(CNN)Chief Justice John Roberts wrote a razor-sharp opinion Friday emphasizing that Texas' abortion law defies Supreme Court precedent and should expose the many state officials who play a key role in the "scheme" to federal lawsuit. But the chief failed to win a crucial fifth vote for that opinion and found himself dissenting, along with three liberal justices, in a case that cuts to the core of reproductive rights and the court's own authority."The clear purpose and actual effect of S.B. 8," Roberts wrote, referring to the Texas ban on abortions after roughly six weeks of pregnancy, "has been to nullify this Court's rulings."Most significantly for women's rights, Roberts' dissent Friday suggests his efforts at some compromise in a separate abortion case of nationwide significance could falter. That controversial case from Mississippi, argued before the justices on December 1 and unlikely to be resolved until June, could lead to a broadscale reversal of Roe v. In an age when statues of slaveholders and Civil War generals are being sent to the smelters, it’s strange to contemplate how little ire is provoked by busts of the Roman Caesars, or for that matter, of Alexander the Great. Arguably these autocrats did more harm to the human race than Robert E. Lee and his ilk. Yet we let them stay in their hallowed niches and on pedestals, their images burnished by the passage of time. We still call Alexander “the Great,” though some have compared him to modern fascist dictators. Alexander’s post-classical legacy (surveyed recently in a wonderful round-up by famed art historian John Boardman) reveals just how pervasive is humanity’s desire for heroic rulers. Even the people conquered by Alexander—the Persians for example—came to depict him with reverence in their poems and artworks. Romancers imagined he’d journeyed into the sky, propelled by powerful birds, or into the depths of the sea in the world’s first submarine. The Jews, on whose lands he had probably trampled, supposed he had met their high priest and sought entry into their...
Netflix has nixed a Latina housekeeper character from its upcoming sitcom Uncoupled, which stars Neil Patrick Harris, after a veteran actor read for the part and publicly slammed it as 'hurtful and derogatory.'   The show, set to release next year, follows a gay man, played by Harris, 48, who is thrust into the New York dating scene after his husband of 17 years suddenly leaves him. In September, a script for the series' first episode initially featured a small role of Latina cleaning lady, named Carmen, who dotes on Harris' character. However, the streaming service has since done away with the part, after veteran actress Ada Maris, 64, read for the role, and subsequently penned an open letter to Harris and the show's creator, Darren Star - the mind behind popular programs like Beverly Hills, 90210; Melrose Place; and Sex and the City. Maris also shared the letter with Variety days after reading for the role, and told the outlet that the housekeeper was stereotypical and flat.  'When I opened it and saw that it wasn’t even funny - it...

Getty Images Ramona and Sonja could be the only 'Housewives' returning for Season 14. Rumors of a major “Real Housewives of New York” cast shake-up have been circulating for months, especially after low ratings plagued the Bravo franchise throughout Season 13. According to Page Six, the franchise experienced the lowest ratings in “RHONY” history, and things were so bad that the reunion special never actually happened. While it’s unclear why ratings were so low, some fans insisted it was because the show failed to deliver good story lines and the right kind of drama. Others felt that the loss of Dorinda Medley and Tinsley Mortimer had a negative effect. While it’s unclear the exact reason (or reasons) for the plummeting ratings, the show is expected to return sometime in 2022 — and there could be several new ladies joining the cast. While nothing has been set in stone just yet — as far as the public is aware — some changes were made to the show’s Wikipedia page that has fans very curious about Season 14. While anyone...

American Crime Story viewers were left stunned at Sarah Paulson's incredible transformation into Linda Tripp after the series premiered in the UK last night.  The latest edition of the true crime anthology series, which aired on BBC2, is titled Impeachment and depicts the scandalous relationship between Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. Clive Owen stars as former President Clinton, whose affair with White House intern Lewinsky (Beanie Feldstein) in the 90s rocked the White House and led to the first impeachment of a U.S. President in over a century.  But the most impressive transformation of all, according to fans, was Sarah, 46, as civil servant Tripp, then 49, whose recordings of phone calls between herself and Lewinsky became the lynchpin in the impeachment proceedings against Clinton in 1998. Jake Tapper went full Jake Tapper Thursday afternoon in what was a delightfully informative and entertaining explanation of the Sackler family’s role in the opioid crisis that has gripped the nation over the past decade or so, all under the clever guise of making a clarification that the Sacklers demanded. Tapper opened the segment by calling Wednesday a “big day in America’s hideous opioid epidemic.” He then reported how the CDC announced that the highest 12-month total yet of drug overdoses in the U.S., 96,000 dead Americans according to preliminary data, a 30% increase from the previous year. “The primary driver of this all was, of course, opioids,” noted before adding news that a federal judge “allowed work to continue on a very controversial bankruptcy and settlement plan for Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of the opioid oxycontin.” This was all pretext to bring up the Sackler Family, who are the Opioid barons who profited billions of dollars off of the opioid crisis, the subject matter of a new show on Hulu, called Dopesick. Tapper interviewed producers of the show on...

In 2021, the Santiago Espinal was good. The infielder, who spent his defensive time on the third floor this year, is a big puzzle to Blue Jays. In 92 games, his order of 311 / .376 / .405 shows us that he had frequent tracks. When he was playing, he was a regular, but he did the job. No, his power is average, there is nothing to write about his two home runs and his 17 RBIs. It wasn’t his job, he hit the bottom of the list. However, his 32 points show that he was on track when the guns came after him. Apparently, defensively, he is innocent. He played on the third floor, but he could play anywhere. I don’t know about you, but for the ninth win, he’s the best. He goes towards the goal for George Springer, and he ensures the much-needed defense. In my opinion, he should have a regular role in 2021. We understand each other: a regular character does not mean being there for it every day. This could mean missing out on...

News that Gen. Mark Milley had exchanged phone calls with Chinese military officials to let them know the U.S. was not planning an attack was greeted with dozens of earnest editorials, like this one in USA Today, explaining why Milley just had to resign. When Milley made statements during the Afghanistan withdrawal that seemed to indicate a slight difference between the timetable he advised and the one that President Joe Biden adopted, Republicans were again outraged that Milley didn’t resign in protest. But of course, Milley had already been declared, as Politico noted back in June,  “a villain of the right” when it was revealed that he had pushed back against Trump’s efforts to use the active military to put down Black Lives Matter protests. Milley, who had been a GOP hero when he strolled across the park to observe Trump waving a Bible over a church from which the priests and parishioners had been driven by military force, had been on the GOP bad list for the better part of a year, despite being hand picked by Trump for his current role. That’s...
