The Biden administration has accomplished a lot in the first year but more work remains, they say. After a full year in office, advocates say that President Joe Biden has accomplished a number of important policy goals to advance the LGBTQ movement. Policy experts also say that there are a number of Trump-era regulations the Biden administration has yet to reverse that would improve LGBTQ people's access to health care, their ability to seek asylum, and their educational experiences. Lambda Legal, an LGBTQ rights advocacy group, laid out Biden's accomplishments so far as well, as the extensive work the administration has yet to complete, in a report released on Jan. 20. The group said the Biden administration has already taken a number of steps to roll back Trump administration attacks on LGBTQ rights, including reversing the trans military ban, rescinding Trump-era waivers for religious foster care providers who discriminate against LGBTQ families, and issuing an announcement on how the administration would enforce Title IX, the federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination...

It was a slow start for the Kansas City Chiefs but they were unstoppable once they got rolling — so much so that they had to stop celebrating in Arrowhead. Early on, it was understandable that Kansas City Chiefs fans were a bit worried about what their team was showing against the Steelers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs at Arrowhead Stadium. Luckily, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the high-powered offense found the switch, flipped it, and then didn’t stop. They kept scoring, and scoring, and scoring. Their lead was all but insurmountable for Pittsburgh — but apparently, the number of times they were finding the end zone was also too much for the Arrowhead fireworks crew to handle. In the fourth quarter, a message flashed on the video board at the stadium that the crew had run out of fireworks that they set off after the Chiefs score a touchdown. Officially, NBA players began participating in games that were scheduled to celebrate and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1986 when the federal holiday commemorating the civil-rights leader was observed for the first time. Oscar Robertson knows the tradition dates back long before that. King was shot and killed while standing on a balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. A day later, Robertson began planning a benefit game in King’s memory — and on Aug. 15 of that year, on an outdoor court in New York, he was among 27 NBA players who wound up taking part. Among those on the court that night: Wilt Chamberlain, Lenny Wilkens, Dave Bing, Dave DeBusschere, Willis Reed, Walt Bellamy and many others. “What happened years ago with Dr. King is still part of our social fiber,” the 83-year-old Robertson said. The annual reminder of that comes Monday, on the annual celebration of the King holiday. The NBA has scheduled 12 games — including the traditional home games in King’s birthplace of Atlanta and...
(CNN)"Baby Shark," the inescapable earworm beloved by some children and often feared by their parents, has hit a new milestone -- 10 billion views on YouTube. Not only is it the most-viewed video on the platform, a record it set in November 2020, but it's now the only video on the site to reach 10 billion views, YouTube confirmed to CNN. The kids' song, masterminded by South Korean educational company Pinkfong and performed by Korean-American singer Hope Segoine, debuted in 2016 and was a viral hit in Asia but didn't jam itself into Americans' collective consciousness until 2019. Since then, it's been turned into a Nickelodeon TV show, a cereal, a live show and the rallying cry of the Washington Nationals throughout their World Series-winning season. It even made the Billboard Top 40 at one point and inspired the Jamie Tartt chant on Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso."YouTube's most-watched video depicts two real children demonstrating the "Baby Shark dance" while the titular animated shark and his family -- including a mustachioed "Grandpa Shark" -- swim serenely and later attempt to hunt...

Georgia football won their first national championship in over 40 years, so of course Bulldogs fans flooded the streets of Athens to celebrate. This is the perilous moment that a drunk man lit fireworks inside his apartment block on New Year's Eve - before wandering into the street as they explode in his hands. The man in Khabarovsk, in eastern Russian, starts the security camera footage by stumbling while trying and failing to light the pyrotechnics. While national Republicans and Fox News attempt to brush off the anniversary of an attempted coup that lead to deaths inside the U.S. Capitol, local Republican groups are refusing to go along with that minimization of events. Around the country, Republicans have organized rallies commemorating the Jan. 6 attacks. Not to condemn the attacks, of course. They're meeting to honor the "martyrs" who died attempting to erase a United States election, and to demand "justice" for the insurrectionists currently awaiting trial for their part in the violence. One of the most outrageous of the day's planned events was to be a "candlelight vigil" for the "J6 Prisoners" promoted by the Cobb County Republican Party in Georgia. As with similar events, there's no coyness or misdirection as to who the heroes of the pro-Trump insurrection were. It's right there in the name: the "J6 Prisoners," the "J6 Patriots"—it's not the police officers who protected lawmakers, the staffers who barricaded doors, or anyone else being feted. It's the people currently cooling their heels in jail cells for their participation in the attacks....
