By Todd Woody | Bloomberg Amid the sylvan tranquility of the Berkeley hills neighborhood, an image of a snarling predator, fangs bared, stares down at passersby from atop a pole planted in the yard of a sprawling Tudor-style home. “Danger! “Coyotes!” the homemade placard warns. It’s a sign of a growing climate-driven conflict. Drought and heat waves are not only fueling catastrophic wildfires in California’s wildland-urban interface, they’re also driving coyotes and other wildlife into the streets in search of food and water, according to scientists. That’s triggering clashes among residents over an influx of four-footed climate refugees into the Berkeley hills and adjoining neighborhoods wedged between a vast regional park and San Francisco Bay. Tracy Richardson says she and her partner put up the sign after a coyote crossed into their yard on an August Sunday morning and growled at them and their three cats. A week later, she says, a coyote snatched one of the felines and ran down the street. “Our cat was sitting like five feet from us and the coyote came up to get the...

They finished in fifth place in their division, missing the playoffs.  It's been a bizarre offseason for the Coyotes, as they were basically served an eviction notice by the city of Glendale. On the hockey side, they prioritized compiling draft picks for future seasons rather than improving the immediate on-ice product.  During the offseason, Arizona traded away Darcy Kuemper, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Conor Garland and Christian Dvorak. They allowed Alex Goligoski, Derrick Brassard and Michael Bunting to walk in free agency. None of the Coyotes' top three goalies from last season are returning.  Arizona acquired Shayne Gostisbehere, Anton Stralman, Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel, Jay Beagle and Andrew Ladd during the offseason. All of these players were salary dumps by their previous teams. Canadian authorities are advising Vancouver tourists and citizens that avoid Stanley Park, an area where coyotes live. This is because throughout the summer the attacks of these animals on people have unusually increased. Now, according to IFLScience, some experts believe that this could be due to drugs or toxins that are affecting the behavior of coyotes. But what would be happening in the park? The latest attack in Stanley Park was earlier this week, when a coyote attacked two people who were having a picnic by biting their legs. However, they have been happening all summer. A few days before this last attack, they had already bitten a person who was walking and just the day before a runner. In general, coyote attacks on people are rare. But this year there has even been a victim: a child under 5 years old. Coyote attacks are generally very rare; but this summer there have already been several attacks This is the reason why it is being warned that it is best to stay away from the park. Facebook has been forced to shut down dozens of coyote groups after being blamed for fueling the border crisis as human smugglers use its platform to organize the passage of desperate migrants into the US in exchange for as little as $1,700. Dozens of Facebook pages and groups openly offer illegal crossings across the US-Mexico border, posting prices, routes, discount options, videos they claim show successful trips - and even testimonials from what they claim to be happy customers.   The Tech Transparency Project (TTP), which unearthed the groups in a damning report this week, said Facebook has become a 'one stop shop' for 'coyote' people smugglers and dangerous cartels and is contributing to migrants risking their lives on the perilous journey chasing the American dream.  The non-profit also revealed it had handed over details about 50 human smuggler pages in April to Facebook - at the platform's request. Two months on, the social media giant failed to remove them all, with 19 still in use on the platform, according to TTP. It's not clear how many of the groups or any other content...

SAN JOSE – There is a good chance that the fourth-place team in the NHL’s West Division will finish this season with a points percentage below .500. And believe it or not, that spot could still go to the Sharks. Call it parity, or just mediocrity, the immense struggles of the other teams still competing for that last playoff spot in the division has been the only thing keeping the Sharks’ faint postseason hopes alive. Thanks to the dreadful records of Arizona and St. Louis of late, the Sharks, despite a seven-game losing streak, enter Saturday’s game with the Minnesota Wild just four points back of the Coyotes for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division with an 18-23-5 record. The morning of April 10, before their current losing streak began, the Sharks were three points back of fourth-place Arizona. Both the Coyotes (20-22-5, 45 points) and Blues (19-19-6, 44 points) have won just three of their last 10 games. The Los Angeles Kings (17-20-6. 40 points) have won just four of their last...

Fox News’ Tomi Lahren said Wednesday that President Joe Biden’s policies regarding the U.S.-Mexico border were profiting coyotes, smugglers and cartels. Lahren discussed the situation on “Outnumbered” with Fox News host Harris Faulkner and Johanna Maska, who served as an aide to former President Barack Obama. (RELATED: Fox Hosts Criticize Democrats’ ‘Hypocrisy’ Over Police Responses To Protest Violence) WATCH: Maska responded to the situation first, saying that it was inaccurate to call Biden the president of open borders. “He is calling for comprehensive immigration reform, which is desperately needed, so we can figure out how to bring people out of the shadows in this country and into law-abiding system,” she said. Faulkner pushed back, asking Maska whether she believed Biden’s policies were working. “Do you think that President Biden coming in and flipping the switch on President Trump’s former policies is the way to go? Some of them were clearly working, Johanna, why did he do that?” “So I think actually I appreciate that President Biden is showing message discipline because we have reality TV star as president...

Hockey bettors naturally have gravitated toward betting over the total in games featuring Canadian teams due to the fact that the average number of goals scored has been much higher in the North than in any other division. However, bettors looking for goals should set their sights on the West. The Golden Knights, Blues and the Sharks have gone Over far more often than not. While games featuring the Ducks have trended mightily in the opposite direction, staying under the total more than 70 percent of the time. The Avalanche are a wild card and betting their games to go Over really should hinge on whether Philipp Grubauer is in goal. In particular, though, there are two teams that have made apparent changes to their style of play, and as a result, are playing at a much higher pace than they were a season ago. Last season, games featuring the Los Angeles Kings only went over the total 40 percent of the time. This season, however, the Kings are 10-3 to the Over. A big reason for this is...
Miami : February 11, 2021February 11, 2021 0 The immigration lawyer Ángel Leal, in conversation with José Pernalete for the Dígalo Aqui program with the community, clarified to all those people who wish to emigrate that going to people who are in charge of trafficking individuals such as coyotes is not the best choice. “The immigrant must understand that coyotes are not the best way to come to the United States, because they are unscrupulous people, who put the lives of others at risk and who, many times, end up extorting the migrants’ relatives,” said the interviewed. Leal highlighted in his speech that the United States must create a feasible system, so that the immigrant can come to this country legally and not fall into the despair of putting his life in the hands of these criminals so that they can be introduced into the country. 0

Arizona lost one game at Vegas by blowing a two-goal lead and was blown out in another. This unique NHL season has some strange quirks to the schedule, so the Coyotes got a quick chance at payback. They took advantage with one of their best games of the season to knock the Golden Knights from the ranks of the undefeated and earn a chance at a four-game split. Conor Garland had a goal and an assist, Darcy Kuemper stopped 29 shots and the Coyotes handed the Golden Knights their first loss of the season, 5-2 on Friday night. The San Jose Sharks placed center Joel Kellman on waivers Sunday, possibly opening the door for another forward to play later this week. Other teams have 24 hours to claim him but if Kellman clears, he would be placed on the Sharks’ taxi squad or report to the Barracuda for their training camp. Perhaps the move shouldn’t be a surprise. Kellman was a healthy scratch for Saturday’s game vs. the Arizona Coyotes and Sharks coach Bob Boughner indicated earlier this week there would be a short leash for some players. Kellman had one shot on goal in 12 minutes of ice time in the Sharks’ 4-3 shootout win over the Coyotes on Thursday. Against the Coyotes on Saturday, Patrick Marleau replaced Kellman at center on the fourth line with Marcus Sorensen and Stefan Noesen on the wings. “We want to be as patient and let guys have a chance, but that rope is short, that leash is short,” Boughner said Friday. “We have to make sure that whoever’s in is playing well and playing hard because...

ON Thursday’s presidential debate, Trump was asked about the missing migrant children and what the plan was to reunite them with their families.  The president mentioned that the children were brought by coyotes and drug cartels, which left many people wondering what he meant by coyotes. 9President Trump said that most migrant children come with coyotes to the USCredit: Alamy Live News What did he mean by coyotes? Coyote is a term to describe a smuggler from the US-Mexico border. A 2019 study by the Rand Corp. found that coyotes can charge between $6,000 and $10,000 per person to smuggle into the border in unsafe conditions through the desert.  Some coyotes have been known to assault migrants, or ransom them to relatives. 9Some families cross dangerous rivers to get near the US-Mexico border Credit: Reuters Drug cartels typically control the border and make way for the coyotes to bring in people for money.  As long as there are more rules and restrictions about who can enter the US through the border, more people will enlist the help of coyotes to...

On Tuesday, 31 players will be selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The next day, 185 will get the call.  One hundred eighty-five? How is that possible? Isn’t 31 multiplied by six 186? Why, yes, yes, it is. But as you’re scrolling down the draft order, you see the term “No selection.” So what exactly happened? How did a pick get forfeited?  Here’s everything you need to know. Which team had to forfeit its pick, and why? Back in February, rumors began to circulate that the NHL was investigating the Coyotes for allegedly violating the predraft scouting process. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Canadian Hockey League — the governing body for major junior hockey in Canada, which is composed of the WHL, OHL and QMJHL — accused the organization of conducting predraft physical fitness testing of more than 20 prospects prior to the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. It was later reported by The Athletic ($) that the United States’ top junior league, the USHL, also had players tested by the Coyotes. This testing is illegal when it’s conducted outside the NHL’s scouting combine window, which...

DEAR JOAN: Our fenced property backs up to a PG&E easement for power lines.  Periodically, a young coyote hunts solo in an old walnut grove. This, of course, excites our 2½-year-old German shepherd mix dog. Lately, the two have taken to chasing each other up and down the fence line, my dog barking and tail wagging, and having a ball.  It appears the coyote is having fun, as well. They never get close enough to touch through the deer fence. A few days ago, the larger mother coyote came along and sat calmly watching her offspring running with my dog. We have no food source in our backyard, as our dog eats inside the house with us, so no lure for them there. Truth be told, my dog does somewhat resemble a coyote — much prettier, of course — and I wonder if this factors into their play/attraction. Have you heard of interaction of this type between dogs and coyotes? Also, the mother coyote squatted and urinated, kicking debris with her hind legs as dogs sometimes do.  Because coyotes are...
Living the Little House On The Prairie life has been a dream of mine since childhood, and lockdown in the Californian desert has given me the chance to do it for real. Except it’s not quite how I imagined. On the one hand, there are the rabbits, the hummingbirds, the friendly coyote, the exotic plants, the rocks, the rising sun yoga, not to mention the endless time to eat cannabis edibles and idle time away trying out new sex toys as I watch bees buzzing in the creosote bushes and ravens soaring in the endless skies. Then there’s that incredible light. Every morning, I leap out of bed at 5:30 to greet the dawn, the texture of which feels like that line from Aldous Huxley’s 1954 backpacker classic, The Doors of Perception, when he drops his first mescaline pill. “I was seeing what Adam was seeing on the morning of his creation—the miracle, moment by moment of naked existence.”
