Tackling the PGA DFS slate for The American Express with our best DraftKings golf picks for each pricing tier and an ideal lineup for this week. We’re heading to The American Express this week for the next stop on the PGA Tour after the Hawaii Swing. Subsequently, we’re going to get heavy into the PGA DFS slate with our DraftKings golf picks for the week. This is an event that can be difficult to decipher given that it’s played across three courses and the fact that we’re also looking at a 54-hole cut as opposed to the more customary 36-hole cut. Subsequently, we’re really just looking for overall good players in solid form right now. So as we dive into this PGA DFS slate on DraftKings for The American Express, we’re going to look at our top plays from the five pricing tiers of players in addition to who we’re fading in each range before building a lineup. Let’s get into the plays (which, again, are the best plays — not an indictment on anyone who isn’t picked if you...

Ja Morant went off for 25 points in Monday’s big win over the Chicago Bulls and, in what has become a season-long trend, did most of his damage in the paint. Morant finished with 14 points in the paint, just a touch below his season-long average of 14.7 points in the paint per game. That marks places him among the league leaders this season (trailing only Giannis Antetokounmpo Nikola Jokic) and puts him on a potentially historic trajectory. Since the NBA began logging play-by-play data in 1996-97, making it possible to track stats like points in the paint, just 15 players have finished a season averaging at least 14.0 points in the paint per game — Shaquille O’Neal, Zion Williamson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Nikola Jokic, Russell Westbrook, Montrezl Harrell, LeBron James, Amar’e Stoudemire, Andre Drummond, Al Jefferson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Clint Capela and Andre Bynum. (CNN)Heard at weddings, in movie theaters and, of course, in football stadiums around the world, the sound of Cristiano Ronaldo's famous 'Siu' celebration became something of an unofficial soundtrack to 2021 -- and it's showing no signs of stopping in 2022.So far, the crowd at this year's Australian Open has taken every opportunity to mimic the celebration in the stands, which has led to some confusion.Multiple news outlets, commentators and even some players initially mistook the shouts of 'Siu' for boos, before eventually realizing what fans were actually shouting. The chants have received mixed reviews from players, with home favorite Nick Kyrgios unsurprisingly relishing the boisterous support. After his opening round win over Liam Broady, the 26-year-old performed the 'Siu' celebration on court -- much to the delight of the fans. Chelsea drew 1-1 with Brighton this evening and in all reality I am not exaggerating when I say that the players did not turn up until the 80th minute. Despite getting the opening goal in the first half, that was totally against the run of play and Chelsea were more than lucky to be going in at half-time in front. 1Chelsea dropped more points as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at BrightonCredit: AP Brighton were the better team and really deserved their equaliser in the second half. They deserved more in fact and should have scored when they had the momentum and were all over Chelsea. But once again with Chelsea's players the same old reoccurring story pops up and that is that these set of players drop their heads and look disinterested when things go against them. Although on this occasion they looked disinterested before the game even started. Thomas Tuchel was the most frustrated I have ever seen him on the touchline and he even went and sat down and showed no emotions at all for a long period in...

In this season, as COVID-19 has pushed player absences and roster uncertainty to historic levels, reliable depth has never been more important — particularly at the point guard position. A backup point guard can stabilize a second-unit offense, scoring or creating opportunities for his teammates. He can provide a defensive boost at the point of attack and he can be flexible enough to play significant minutes with the starters, adjusting his role as needed. The best teams in the league all have competent ball-handlers and creators coming off the bench but there are a few that are standing above the rest. For this exercise, I’m taking a slightly more liberal approach to characterizing a backup, looking at players who have appeared in at least 30 games this season with fewer than 15 starts. In terms of characterizing someone as a point guard, I’m relying on a few stats like time of possession, assist rate...
A lot of memorable NBA players are getting a second chance…due to a new wave of a deadly pandemic. Can any joy be found here? For the third straight season, the NBA has been thoroughly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the season was able to start on time, and the league has managed to avoid a stoppage in play, the Omicron variant has wreaked havoc on things, often finding teams scrambling for players. As a result, we’ve seen more players play in the NBA this season than in any previous year, and we’ve only just crossed the halfway point. Teams like the Chicago Bulls and Memphis Grizzlies have had nearly half their rosters in COVID protocols, while a game between the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors had to be postponed because the Nuggets didn’t have the minimum eight players necessary to play an NBA game. After thinking that just maaaayyybe the pandemic was effectively over, the last month has been a rather intense reality check for basketball fans. The harsh realities of this situation led to the creation...

The fate of Pac-12 football each fall depends less on NFL Draft decisions made the previous winter than it once did. The creation of free agency … err, the transfer portal … has become the primary driver of offseason roster change. But draft declarations still matter. And the Pac-12, despite a substandard season, has experienced a significant level of attrition to the NFL. By our count, three dozen high-impact players are entering the 2022 draft despite having eligibility remaining. The exodus is spread fairly evenly across the divisions, schools and sides of scrimmage. Here’s a Drake London filing paperwork with the NFL; there’s a Kayvon Thibodeaux doing the same. Here’s a Devin Lloyd moving on; there’s a Trent McDuffie doing the same. Here’s a Rachaad White; there’s a B.J. Baylor. Bottom line: All of the players expected to be taken in the first round have declared. Given current rosters, the conference doesn’t have an obvious top-10 talent returning for next season. Notes on the names below: — Because the NCAA granted all players a free year of eligibility in 2020,...

Sunday, January 16, 2022. 8:03 p.m. And so onMMAIRE Arlington, Texas – Depo Samuel and San Francisco 49ers advanced to the playoffs after a frantic final against the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have to wait a long time at the playoffs. Receiver Samuel took the ball 26 yards out to touch down the game following a Prescott interception, and 49 players survived Sunday’s late drive by the Cowboys to win 23-17. Prescott decided to run … time is up! The Cowboys got one last chance with 32 seconds left when the 49ers found themselves on the 41-yard line. Prescott slipped fast into midfield, hoping to get to the final with 14 seconds left on the clock. However, from 24 runs, the Cowboys failed to play the ball before the last seconds. Shortly afterwards, referee Alex Kemp announced that the game was well over. Head coach Mike McCarthy noted that the clash between Prescott and officer Ramon George slowed down the Cowboys and a referee on the touchline assured that the game would be reviewed....

Man Utd have to get to the bottom of it, that’s part of the responsibility when you’re working with good, young players. "He’s done amazing things over the last few years, amazing, on and off the pitch, but clearly there’s something amiss. "I looked at him Monday night, the lights are on but there's nobody home. (CNN)The Buffalo Bills, led by quarterback Josh Allen, will take part in this weekend's NFL's opening playoff round. As a huge Bills fan, I'm rooting for Allen to do well. But an analysis of recent online search trends indicates that team loyalty like mine may not be as widespread in the age of free agency and social media. Plenty of sports fans are more interested in individual players than teams. This is seen throughout football, the sports industry and even across continents -- with Allen and the Bills proving a fascinating example of this growing phenomenon. The Bills have historically not been a team with national appeal. Based in the second smallest metropolitan area in the US for a pro football team -- according to the 2020 US Census, Buffalo had a population of 1.17 million compared to New York City's 20.14 million -- their games are rarely shown nationally often. And Zabaleta, who was the club's final signing before the takeover, claimed how the rest of the dressing room were left nervous over their futures. He told La Nacion last year: "Ten days after my arrival, the purchase of the club by the people of Abu Dhabi is executed. How do you differentiate between a quarterback who threw for more than 3,000 yards and a running back who accounted for more than 3,000 all-purpose yards, much of it against top competition? How do you choose one over the other? In our case, you don’t. Menlo-Atherton quarterback Matt MacLeod and Wilcox running back Luther K. Glenn are the Bay Area News Group’s co-offensive players of the year. MacLeod, who coincidentally burst onto the scene as a freshman when he came off the bench in 2018 to rally M-A past Wilcox for a Central Coast Section championship, threw for 3,326 yards and 36 touchdowns as the Bears won the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division title and reached the semifinals of the CCS Division I playoffs. Glenn ran for a CCS-best 2,366 yards while leading Wilcox to the section’s Division II title and Division 2-A state championship game. The senior had 3,098 all-purpose yards and scored 37 touchdowns. He averaged 10.2 yards per attempt. “Glenn broke open our game with 2 long drives where he...

The racial disparity between NFL players and coaches grew wider on Thursday as the Houston Texans fired David Culley after just one season, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin as the only African-American head coach in a mostly black league. 'One Black head coach left in the NFL,' tweeted USA Today's Mike Freeman. 'Absolutely disgraceful.' Culley's widely reported dismissal follows the Miami Dolphins' decision to fire their black head coach, Brian Flores, after the team went a respectable 19-14 over the last two seasons. A Texans spokesperson did not immediately confirm DailyMail.com's request for confirmation.  African Americans accounted for 57.5 percent of league players in 2020, according to The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports. Meanwhile white players comprised 24.9 percent of NFL rosters in 2020, when the league still had four black head coaches.  The NFL tied a record in 2018 with eight African-American head coaches, all but seven of whom have been dismissed.  The Houston Texans fired David Culley after just one season on Thursday, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin as the NFL's only black head...
The 2021-22 Minnesota Timberwolves are not the team we’d thought they’d be at the onset of the season. Back then, in October, the book on the Wolves was that they boasted a troika of scorers who needed to share the ball enough to sustain a top-ten offense and hope that the coaching staff could cobble together a defense that resembled mediocrity on enough nights to make the games at the back end of the season matter.  These Wolves have bushwhacked those suppositions and cloaked themselves in an identity alien to even the most wizened denizens of the team’s fan base. They are less silk and flow and more electrified barbed wire, amped to run-and-stun as a means to run-and-gun. They generate more turnovers and jack up more three-pointers than any other team in the NBA.  The signature play of the 2021-22 Wolves is not a poster dunk by Anthony Edwards, or a splashed trey by Karl-Anthony Towns or a zipper-taut dime by D’Angelo Russell. It’s Jarred Vanderbilt ever-circling, like a shark, honing in on a loose or about-to-be-loosened ball off...
Exactly how long Novak Djokovic's current stay in Australia will last continues to remain in doubt.  However, social media has spotted a more frivolous sideshow to fixate upon as the row rumbles on over whether the world number one should be allowed to compete in the Australian open when it begins next week - how handsome Djokovic's two little brothers are.  The appearance of Djordje Djokovic alongside his parents Srdan and Dijana at a press conference this week sparked a series of tweets not strictly relating to the tennis, with some simply tuning in to admire the 26-year-old's suave good looks.  The family answered questions from the press - with a confident Djordje telling those gathered his brother is 'only fighting for liberty of choice'. Wordle is a deceptively simple online word game that has taken players the world over by storm. Josh Wardle developed the game to play with his partner last fall. It quickly averaged 90 players a day in November, grew to 300,000 by January, and over the weekend soared to 2 million. "I get emails from people who say things like, 'Hey, we can’t see our parents due to COVID at the moment, but we share our Wordle results each day,'” Wardle told the Guardian. “During this weird situation, it’s a way for people to connect in a low effort, low friction way.” Users post their results on social media and share how the game affects their family relationships. last month, in an act of misguided kindness, I spent 2 days teaching my highly boomer parents how to do wordletoday my dad discloses has been keeping a tally of everyone's scores daily & basically codified family rules for wordle. Next1 of 6Prev postUse your ← → (arrows) to browse It’s finally here, the NFL Playoffs. After a long 18-week season, which players have shown they are ready to dominate the postseason? This has been the longest NFL season in history. By design, the league added a 17th game to every team’s schedule, which has given us the chance to see the superstars for one more week. This was a season of historic proportions. Records were broken, teams surprisingly made the playoffs, there were some teams who separated themselves, and at the end of the season, the dominant teams were dominant. Now, we’re looking towards the playoffs, and there are certain players looking to build themselves a legacy. A lot of the players in the NFL Hall of Fame have a moment or 10 where they stepped up in the playoffs in their team’s quest to win a championship. That happened last season as Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Devin White, and Leonard Fournette all built on their superstar status with the Buccaneers run to the Super Bowl.Which NFL players...
MLB and MLBPA take a significant step towards ending the lockout with a meeting on the books for Jan. 13, their first meeting since Dec. 2.  It’s been a frigid month for baseball fans, as all MLB activity — and thereby news updates — have been rather slow in what should have been the continuation of a bustling winter offseason. It’s been a brutal season for the Boston Celtics, hammered again by injuries and COVID-related absences, struggling to keep themselves in the playoff picture and dealing with some apparent chemistry issues that have bubbled up more than once. There are myriad issues but the most glaring has been the inconsistency of their two stars, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Both are still putting up huge numbers but have seen their shooting efficiency drop from last season in several key areas. All this has combined to create an offense that hasn’t really been able to establish a rhythm around a lack of synchronicity between these two primary initiators. The Celtics beat the Pacers in overtime last night, powered by a combined 50 points from Brown and Tatum. But they also combined to take 47 shots, hit just 3-of-13 from beyond the arc and finish with more turnovers (8, all for Tatum) than assists (7). The...

Running back David Montgomery acknowledged Monday morning that he was emotional. Given the news that Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace had been fired a day after the team finished its 6-11 season, Montgomery couldn’t wall off a combination of disappointment, sadness and sentimentality. “It’s pretty emotional for me,” he said. Pace was the GM who traded up in the 2019 draft to select Montgomery at No. 73 in the third round. Nagy was the energetic coach with whom Montgomery developed a close bond during their three seasons working together. Even if Monday’s news wasn’t all that stunning to anyone inside or outside of Halas Hall, the finality still packed a punch. “Coming out in the draft, I’m being passed up by a lot of teams and not knowing what’s going to happen next for me,” Montgomery said. “And Pace and Nagy? They took a chance on me. They took a chance on a poor kid from Cincinnati who people looked at as if he wasn’t going to be good enough...
In September 2008, 18 American post-graduate women’s hockey players gathered at the National Sports Center Super Rink in Blaine for the first U.S. National Team residency camp. At the time, it was a really big deal. No U.S. women’s pro league yet existed, so women who exhausted their college eligibility had few options for improving their skills. That lack of opportunity showed at the 2006 Olympics when the U.S., co-favorites with Team Canada, lost a 3-2 shocker to Sweden in the semifinals and managed only a bronze medal. National Team veterans Angela Ruggiero, Natalie Darwitz and others lobbied USA Hockey, the sport’s governing body, for more resources and ice time to prepare for international events.  USA Hockey not only sprung for the winter-long residency camp — a first — but raised $350,000 to build a modern dressing room in a 9,000-square-foot storage space at the Super Rink. Merv Lapin, a Vail, Col. financial executive and philanthropist with a keen interest in women’s hockey, donated $250,000 to get it started. The women’s program finally had a home. Or did it? LONDON (AP) — Leicester’s Premier League match at Everton on Tuesday has been postponed because of a lack of available players at Leicester, the Premier League said Sunday. A mixture of coronavirus cases, injuries and players on duty at the African Cup of Nations tournament prompted Leicester to make a request to the league that the game be called off. The league granted the request, saying Leicester does “not have the required number of players available.” Nineteen matches have been postponed over the past month, causing a fixture backlog in England’s top division. ___ More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright © 2022 The Associated Press. PHOENIX (AP) — Tyler Herro had his best scoring game of the season. Duncan Robinson did, too. It all added up to a blowout win for the Miami Heat, who tied a franchise record with 22 3-pointers in a 123-100 victory over the NBA-leading Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. Both players came off the bench for the short-handed Heat, who had 11 players on the inactive list, including star guard Jimmy Butler. “I just really continue to commend our group for staying in the moment, focusing on solutions and figuring out a way to improve and play good enough to win,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “One at a time.” The Heat made 50% of their 44 attempts from 3-point range. Robinson had a particularly good night, making eight 3s on 16 attempts, including a pair in the fourth quarter that turned back a short-lived Suns rally. “We’ve got a lot of guys who can really shoot, which obviously...
HE is struggling to adapt in a dysfunctional team, in an unfamiliar league, and has already worked for three different bosses in five months as a Manchester United player.  No wonder Jadon Sancho looks as though he is playing with a scrambled mind. 2Jadon Sancho has endured a tough start to life at Man Utd with the £73m transfer beginning to look like a big-money mistakeCredit: AFP Even a £73million signing needs and deserves some patience and understanding.  And yet half a season into his Old Trafford career, Sancho is showing few signs of settling, having managed just one goal and no assists in 16 Premier League appearances.   During United’s miserable 1-0 home defeat by Wolves on Monday - their first loss under interim boss Ralf Rangnick - Sancho was the worst of a bad bunch.  He was guilty of poor decision-making and misplaced passes as he frequently lost possession - most glaringly when he led a United break but ran into traffic when...

When Matt Nagy coaches the Chicago Bears in their season finale Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium, it will be four years to the day since general manager Ryan Pace introduced him at Halas Hall as the team’s new coach. “Matt’s a proven leader,” Pace said then of Andy Reid’s former assistant coach and coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs. “He’s a winner. He’s intelligent. He’s innovative. He has strong character. He has a great family, and he shares the same passion for the game that I have.” Some of those statements have proved to be true over the last four years. One of them, about winning, has not been true enough. Nagy enters what is likely his last game as Bears coach Sunday with a 34-30 record, plus two playoff losses. No matter the outcome of the game, which has no playoff implications for either team, the Bears will finish with a losing record for the first time in his tenure. Nagy has had one winning season — the 12-4 run to the NFC North title...
(CNN)Away from questions about whether the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) would take place amid the pandemic, the tiny archipelago nation of Comoros has been preparing for its debut on the continent's biggest stage. The achievement of qualifying for Africa's biennial football tournament is difficult to overstate given the size and footballing history of Comoros.Located just off the east coast of Africa, it is the continent's fourth-smallest country with a population of less than 900,000. Nicknamed Les Coelacanthes (the Coelacanths) -- that moniker coming from a rare species of tropical fish which inhabits the native waters of the Indian Ocean -- the team was only admitted as a member of FIFA, football's global governing body, in 2005.The dream of reaching the AFCON finals became a reality in March 2021 after a typically hard-fought 0-0 draw against Togo, but the story of Comoros' unlikely success can be traced back to 2014 when head coach Amir Abdou took over with a new vision for the team.In light of Comoros' limited footballing infrastructure, Abdou chose to lean on the nation's diaspora, particularly in...
NFL star Aaron Rodgers has laughed off a report that he would boycott the Super Bowl if his team qualifies, in protest against the COVID-19 rules. The Green Bay Packers quarterback described the suggestion as 'fake news' and the 'dumbest f****** story ever,' accompanied by emojis showing crying with laughter. Rodgers has caused anger this season by claiming in August he was 'immunized', but later admitting he was not vaccinated and then catching COVID. He was fined for putting other players and staff at risk, and lashed out against a 'woke mob' encouraging him to get vaccinated. He later apologized for his 'misleading' comments suggesting he was fully vaccinated.  Earlier on Friday, sports presenter Boomer Esiason shared on air a text from a 'source' who claimed Rodgers would stage a protest against the COVID rules, which Rodgers has publicly criticized. Getty Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan smiles during a game against the Detroit Pistons. DeMar DeRozan’s unexpected year 13 renaissance continues to pay major dividends for the Chicago Bulls. After hitting back-to-back, buzzer-beating game-winners on the road against the Pacers and the Wizards, DeRozan returned to the Windy City with a 29-point effort to lead the Bulls past the Magic. Along the way, more and more hoops pundits have come to realize that this isn’t just some fluke or hot streak. The Bulls are back and DeRozan deserves every MVP mention he’s getting. Of course, the 32-year-old probably isn’t going to win that particular award. He may be averaging 26.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while making a career-high 36.2% of his three-point attempts, but he still has to contend with the likes of Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo for the NBA‘s top individual honor. That said, DeRozan looks to be firmly on pace to earn another lofty distinction. Specifically, a starting spot in the 2022 All-Star Game.DeRozan Resonating With Fans in the...
