latest news at page 1:
PRINCE William is said to want to remain neutral in a feud between his dad and brother over claims made about Camilla in Harry's imminent memoir. Charles has reportedly told aides he fears his younger son's new book will be an "excoriating takedown" of the Duchess of Cornwall, particularly in the early years of the couple's romance. 1Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Charles in 2019Credit: Getty In an attempt to stop him blaming her for damaging his childhood, and even slating her further, Charles has extended an olive branch to Harry. He is also said to have confided in his eldest son about his worries and requested he "go in and bat for Camilla" publicly should any hurtful claims be made against her. But while Wills cares for his father deeply, he is believed to want to steer well clear of the drama. A source told The Sun: "Charles has shared his concerns with William, and is keen he somehow goes on the record and sticks up for Camilla, should the book attack her....

The Prince William County School Board (PWCSB) member is defending himself against claims that he ignored the concern of a father who said at a Wednesday school board meeting that his daughter had been sexually assaulted in one of the county’s schools. “During our School Board meeting on January 19, a concerned father addressed the School Board during Citizen Comment time with questions about the way a situation had been handled by the School Division,” Dr. Babur Lateef, Chairman of PWCSB told The Virginia Star in a statement. “Citizen Comment time is not structured to allow for the School Board to address a citizen’s questions immediately.” “Unfortunately, this has created the perception that I was dismissive of this father’s concerns. Nothing could be further from the truth. As a parent myself, with a daughter in the school system as well, I fully empathize with this father’s anguish and concern,” he continued. “Staff are available at School Board meetings to assist in supporting parents with questions, and in this situation, a staff member was able to talk to this...
Schools in Prince William County, Virginia, are reducing quarantine requirements for students and staff in line with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. Starting Monday, students K-12 and staff who have been identified as a close contact but are not sick must quarantine for five days if they are not fully vaccinated. They do not need to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated, not sick or had COVID-19 in the last 90 days. Ten days of isolation are required for students who are sick or test positive for the coronavirus, and for staff, it’s five days. It’s 10 days for students because physical distancing while not wearing a mask during lunch is not logistically possible if isolation were shorter, Superintendent LaTanya McDade said in a letter to the school community. These changes do not apply to students in pre-K. You can see Prince William County Public Schools’ family guide to isolation here. Masks will remain in Prince William County schools despite an executive order by Gov. Glenn Youngkin over the seeking to make masks optional. Other school systems in...
Queen Elizabeth II is turning to her heir amid Prince Andrew’s ongoing sexual assault case. Royal expert Kristin Contino recently made this claim, saying the reigning monarch has been relying on Prince William for advice. Contino also says the Duke of Cambridge was involved in the decision to strip his uncle of his military affiliations and royal patronages. "William, in fact, was very involved in this decision, and it’s been said that he met with the queen in person ahead of their announcement that came out last week," Contino reported to Us Weekly. "I think that really shows – and I think that’s interesting – his growing influence and how she trusts his judgment and is looking for his advice. "And I think that’s a great sign of things to come for William and how much she is relying on talking to him and his counsel," Contino added. Masks will remain in Prince William County schools, at least for now, although the division is making changes to quarantine requirements. Superintendent LaTanya McDade told the School Board Wednesday that teachers and students will still be required despite an executive order by Gov. Glenn Youngkin over the weekend seeking to make masks optional. Youngkin’s order, which goes into effect Jan. 24, said parents could opt out of having their children wear masks in schools without needing to provide any explanation. School divisions are scrambling because the order contradicts a state law passed last year that requires public schools to follow COVID-19 mitigation guidelines “to the maximum extent practicable” as propagated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and those guidelines currently include wearing masks in schools. School officials in Manassas, Alexandria and Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier and Loudoun counties have also announced this week that they will keep their mask mandates. McDade said no changes are currently planned...

Prince William County Public Schools are looking for help with a comprehensive security audit to assess physical school safety features, security staffing and more this year. The county school division issued a request for proposals just before the new year for a contractor to do a complete review of the division’s security procedures and personnel from the top of the division down to the individual school level. The RFP closes Jan. 27. The selected contractor is supposed to finish its assessment within 60 days of the project start date, which a proposed timeline says would be in the spring. As far as the division’s physical security features are concerned, the contractor is expected to visit three high schools, three middle schools and three elementary schools and make recommendations that could include enhanced screening, like “the use of magnetometers, or the recommendation of other solutions at high schools, as an effective means to deter/prevent weapons in schools such as training,...
The question is posed by judges to every defendant seeking to admit guilt rather than go to trial: “Are you pleading guilty because you are in fact guilty of the charges?” When Kashif Bashir answered “Yes, your honor,” in Prince William County Court, Tuesday, former Alexandria, Virginia police officer Peter Laboy was in the courtroom. Bashir was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2013 shooting of Laboy, who barely survived the shooting and has undergone several surgeries. Bashir was shot while assisting a young woman whom Bashir was stalking. Amid the flurry of activity after new Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s executive order allowing parents to have their children opt-out of a school system’s mask mandate, Prince William County School Board Chairman Babur Lateef is calling for state and local public health and education leaders to work together to develop metrics for a safe, scientifically-based “masking off-ramp.” Lateef is seeking a measured, public-health based compromise, with the eventual goal of reducing — and ultimately eliminating — masking. The second and third in line to the throne, Prince Charles and his son William, encouraged the queen in her decision to ruthlessly cut Prince Andrew out of the royal family and force him to surrender his HRH title, it was reported Friday. The Daily Mail and the Telegraph both reported that William and Charles had significant input into the brutal defenestration of Andrew, which took place in a 90-minute meeting with his mother at Windsor Castle on Thursday. Charles was in regular contact with the queen by phone from his home in Scotland, but William was at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, and it is believed spoke to his grandmother in person about the extraordinarily sensitive matter of Andrew’s future outside the royal fold. The Mail quoted a source as saying the father and son duo had been “instrumental” in the dramatic move, while the Telegraph said the move was made with “input from other members of the Royal Family, including the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge.” It has also emerged that Andrew was summoned to...
At the end, it was just the two of them: Mother and son talking quietly and agreeing a future neither in their worst nightmares would have dreamed possible. If the extravagantly ornate ticking clock on the mantelpiece of the Queen’s private apartment in Windsor Castle where they met yesterday had wound itself back half a century to when the Queen was consoling the schoolboy Andrew over a grazed knee, say, there would not have been a more intimate moment. Here was Prince Andrew, the Queen’s favourite, who for the first 22 years of his life had exalted in the pre-eminent status of heir in line to the throne, effectively handing in his badge of office. That lofty rank of second in the order of succession had, of course, long since disappeared with the birth of his nephews William and Harry, then diminished further with the arrival of the brothers’ own families. But now he was to relinquish the use of his birthright, HRH – His Royal Highness – the lofty title that has preceded his name on letterheads and official...
It’s been said that Elizabeth II will do whatever it takes to ensure the survival of the British monarchy, but the 96-year-old queen may have needed a strong push to finally strip her beloved second son Prince Andrew of his HRH status and prestigious military affiliations. That push would no doubt have come from people within her own family, including her heirs Prince Charles and Prince William. After a US federal judge gave the green light for Andrew to face trial over a sexual assault civil lawsuit, the queen Thursday took back a number of military affiliations and royal patronages that she had bestowed on Andrew, who no longer will be addressed as “His Royal Highness.” She, Charles and William must have been keenly aware that the judge’s ruling was a “devastating blow” to both Andrew and the royal family “after more than a decade of allegation and innuendo,” as The Guardian said. The trial will mark “an unprecedented chapter” in the royal family’s modern history, The Guardian said. Andrew may have to testify in a U.S. court about allegations...

Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns says the proposal for data centers along Pageland Lane could have a “devastating impact” on the Manassas National Battlefield. LONDON (AP) — Britain’s Prince William on Thursday appealed for innovators around the world to submit nominations for his Earthshot Prize, a competition aimed at finding new ways to tackle climate change. William and his charity, The Royal Foundation, launched the prize in 2020 inspired by U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 “Moonshot” speech that challenged Americans to go to the moon by the end of the decade. The prize, to be awarded to five winners every year until 2030, is billed as the most prestigious of its kind. Each winner will receive a grant of 1 million pounds ($1.4 million) to develop and scale up their ideas. This year’s prizes will go to projects aimed at “tipping point” issues where there are opportunities to create significant benefits over the next few years, the foundation said. These include personal transportation, agriculture that restores the environment, buildings designed to minimize pollution and energy use, and initiatives that extend the life of clothing, food and plastic products. “I can’t wait to see what solutions the prize helps to champion this coming year,’’...

Magazine, Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe said: "Kate was, as Harry said, the sister he never had and clearly that is not the case any more. "There was a time when Harry would have been instrumental in any celebrations or any fun that the couple were having, but those days are long in the past."...

In the piece, Charles emphasized the work that both his children have accomplished individually. "The scale and scope of the threat calls for regional and global solutions that will require the active participation of every sector of industry, in every country around the world," Charles wrote.
