Conservatives are going all-in on attacking a Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) agency called the Disinformation Governance Board, falsely insisting President Joe Biden has created an Orwellian “Ministry of Truth” that will censor everything online. It’s their latest attack on actual truth, of course. For starters, the board’s focus is on combatting foreign disinformation, not domestic, and it would work to help protect national security. It’s also not a new endeavor, but a continuation of work done during the Trump administration, and conservatives had no issue with it then. Fox News Peter Doocy on Monday jumped at the chance to further misinform the far right-wing cable network’s viewers while attempting to paint the President as out of touch and uninformed. “Does the President know that DHS is putting together this Disinformation Governance Board?” Doocy asked. (Minutes later he would accuse it of “censoring internet traffic.”) “Well, Peter, I think I would note – and I’m not sure if this has been in your reporting yet – but this is a continuation of work that was done under the prior administration,...
(CNN)President Donald Trump was acquitted Wednesday by the US Senate of the two impeachment counts passed by the House: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.Just the third President to face impeachment, Trump will remain in office -- like Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson -- but he was robbed of the ability to dismiss the impeachment as a partisan hoax by Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, the former Republican presidential nominee, who sided with every Democrat and agreed that Trump abused his power and was guilty of "an appalling abuse of public trust."Read a full blow-by-blow of the day here. 52-48 vote on abuse of power -- That the President would survive the impeachment was never really in question since Republicans hold a majority in the Senate and it would have taken a supermajority of two-thirds to convict him (that's 67 senators). 53-47 on obstruction of Congress -- The vote on the second article of impeachment -- obstruction of Congress -- followed party lines after Romney sided with Republicans on that question.Read MoreRefresher: The articles of impeachment against TrumpRomney made history...
RISHI Sunak has been dealt the worst hand of any Chancellor of modern times. For two years he has played it pretty well — and mainly did so yesterday too. 1For two years Rishi Sunak has played it pretty well — and mainly did so yesterday tooCredit: Reuters He should have axed the foolish April National Insurance rise we have railed against. But he at least spared the lowest-paid — and effectively cut NI for anyone earning under £35,000. We have no idea how a man who insisted we HAD to raise £12billion in tax for the NHS can now settle for half. But we’ll call it a result. We are delighted too at the greatest victory yet for our long Keep It Down campaign . . . the 5p a litre off fuel duty. Yes, it’s only a fraction of the 40p surge at the pumps. But it’s something. Labour wants voters to believe that Mr Sunak, like all Tory Chancellors, sits on a vast pile of gold he cruelly refuses to hand out. The truth...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — As the Major League Baseball lockout continues, there’s concern among fans and businesses that opening day will be delayed. A number of downtown Minneapolis bars and restaurants rely on Twins home games. READ MORE: Minnesota Sees Another Record Year For Gun PermitsThe lockout is the latest curveball thrown throughout two years of uncertainty. In 2020, COVID-19 delayed the season for months, hurting businesses. Then last year, some of the same concerns emerged when the season started. Normally by now the Twins would be holding spring training games in sunny Florida, but many of those games have already been canceled, along with the first two series of the regular season, because baseball owners and the players’ union can’t agree on a new collective bargaining agreement. "I can’t rule it out, it’s not my job. AJ is the boss. He’s very smart about the plan. He won’t want to do it." Joshua, 32, lost to Usyk, 34, in September but his contract included the right to an immediate rematch. That was exercised but shortly after, talks took place for the Ukrainian to fight Fury, 33, in the Middle East for the undisputed crown. For the unification to get the green light, AJ...
The former commanding officer of one of Prince Andrew's Army regiments has called on him to give up his honorary military titles. Colonel Tim Collins, an Iraq War veteran, said the Duke of York should 'jump before he is pushed' out of the roles, potentially by The Queen. He is believed to be the most senior military figure so far to urge Andrew to step down. 'The publicity surrounding [Prince Andrew] is embarrassing for everyone, Col Collins, 61, told the Mirror, referring to his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. 'I don't think he'll ever ride the storm out. That is the bottom line because I think that the damage has been done. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg agreed with Behar, saying that the fact that massive numbers of white people aren't seeing awful adverse reactions to vaccines is proof that they're safe for black people also. "I've said to more people, 'Do you see another head at the back of my head? Is there a tail back there? 'Cuz if you haven't seen anything come out and grow on me, it's pretty simple that it's OK,'" Goldberg noted. Image source: YouTube screenshot She added, "Yes, terrible things have happened. ... Black folks have gone to the hospital and come out and been unable to have kids because they were sterilized while they were asleep, the Tuskegee experiment — there are countless things we can point to. But [the COVD-19 vaccine] is not one of them. This isn't one of them." Pointing back to Behar's comment about white people, Goldberg added, "Did you just say, Joy, white people? This is what I said at the beginning: White people are getting it. If you don't see them with double heads,...
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The attacks on September 11, 2001, dramatically changed the way we fly. Security at the airports increased over the last two decades, with passengers now required to do things like go through X-ray machines before they get to the gate. “The layer of security that is visible and, probably more importantly not visible, to the general public has increased exponentially since 9/11,” said former FBI agent Stuart Kaplan. READ MORE: New Technology Can Now Pinpoint Emergency Calls In Seconds Via App Or Text But has enough been done to keep you safe at the airport? CBS4’s Brooke Shafer posed that question to Dan Ronan, the federal security director with the Transportation Security Administration at Miami International Airport. “Absolutely. Enough has been done. But, we’re not done,” said Ronan. “Because if we ever think we’re done, our adversaries aren’t done.” Ronan has worked at MIA since 2017 and has been with the TSA for a little over a decade. “We know that our adversaries know that we’re here. So we’re a deterrent to them,” he said. The TSA...

Brexit leader Nigel Farage has slammed CNN, the New York Times, and the wider mainstream media for putting “an old duffer” who is “not up to the job” in the White House. “Well done, well done mainstream media, well done social media, well done — you’ve got the President that you wanted,” the former UKIP and Brexit Party (Reform UK) leader said on GB News, the upstart alternative news network where he currently broadcasts. “You didn’t like Donald Trump, he was too brash, too difficult for you, so you decided to run a campaign where rather than being critical and doing your job, you basically became champions for Joe Biden,” the veteran campaigner accused. Farage went on to excoriate establishment journalists for providing “Very little investigation into the laptop of his son Hunter” and “very little scrutiny of what the American electoral process became” in 2020. Following emails showing Joe Biden in bed with the Chinese, a reporter had a TOUGH question for him today: "Mr. Biden, Mr. Biden what flavor [ice cream] did you get?!"pic.twitter.com/j6ikmpChHC — Trump War Room...
Carlos Sainz was clear and forceful after the 2021 F1 Belgian GP, after the Belgian event ended after four laps with the ‘Safety Car’ on the track and more than 3 hours of waiting in the pits. The Spanish, in his statements to ‘DAZN F1’, applauded the decision of the Race Direction to prevent the pilots from competing in very dangerous conditions due to the null visibility that was on the track due to the curtains of water raised by the cars. However, he was very critical of subsequent decisions, those of ending a race that was nothing more than a paripe after four laps behind the ‘Safety Car’, without any competition, something that was done solely so that the test would be worth in the championship and that they shared at least the half points. For Carlos, what had to be done was to “cross out” this test “and go to the next one”, without awarding points to anyone. So much so that the Spaniard said he was not proud of the half point he took for his...
Getty Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and point guard Ben Simmons during a playoff game against the Atlanta Hawks in June. The endless summer drama that is Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers has taken another epic turn, according to Jason Dumas of KRON4 News. Dumas later appeared on The Morning Roast – a weekday sports podcast and radio show based in the Bay Area – and dropped another doozy about Simmons, saying “He’s open to the California teams is what I’ve been told. Joel Embiid has reached out to him several times since the end of the season. He hasn’t returned Joel Embiid’s calls. … he doesn’t want to return to the 76ers....
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — New York tenants on the verge of eviction say the state’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program is failing them. Last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised to expedite applications and payments, but landlords and renters told CBS2’s Lisa Rozner on Wednesday nothing has changed. At an event showcasing new apartments that are now home to formerly homeless families on West 127th Street, some acknowledged the city may soon need even more resources to help families facing eviction when the state’s moratorium expires Aug. 31. “I also talked to some of the providers who provide homeless housing and they say in September they’re going to have an influx, which is frightening. That is so frightening,” Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer said. READ MORE: New York To Simplify Rental Assistance Application, Send Funds By End Of August, Gov. The United States coach and one of the best coaches in the history of basketball praised Spain.
Sergio Scariolo had to try to maintain his composure in the face of the mixture of emotions that he had to deal with at a press conference after the defeat against the United States and after knowing, at least publicly, the withdrawal of Pau and Marc Gasol. What is your rating of the match? They (for the United States) are ten times more talented individually than any other team. But it is also noticeable that they have worked seriously and here are the results. But honestly, it’s another day to be proud for our players. For what they have shown, for the way they have competed and for not giving up. We have tried to present different ways of competing, with big ones, with small ones. They have had to be used thoroughly. We all know our strengths and our weaknesses today. Not five, ten or twelve years ago, and you have to be proud. This team has given a kind of competitiveness, commitment, team. A cycle is over. This is a time to enjoy the moment. It has been...
Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale Has Finally Begun: Shop These 20 Amazing Menswear Deals Behold the glory of the Olympics baseball bullpen cart with a glove-shaped seat Hiram Garcia When Black Adam flies into theaters next summer, the ancient antihero will be doing it with the help of new technology. Hiram Garcia, a producer on the DC film, told Collider that the special effects team was “put to work” and that the technology used to show off the character’s abilities is totally “unique.” “The technology we’re using to make Black Adam fly has never been done before. It’s completely unique,” he said. “It was critical for us to ensure that it felt special, authentic and real. [Director] Jaume [Collet-Serra] took that to heart. Our special effects team are Oscar winners, and we certainly put them to work.” Garcia said with other films in the superhero genre, “it’s common to see abilities fall to the wayside” when dealing with characters who have multiple big powers. The new tech was necessary to avoid the shortcomings of genre predecessors, and help realize the character’s...

Vrabel said that Jones embraced that approach and that he’s made a positive impact on the team since joining the roster. “One thing I told him is, I’m going to hold the best players the most accountable, and hopefully in turn they can do that to the rest of the team,” Vrabel said, via the team’s website. “I’ve always said that is...
