SAN FRANCISCO — A prospect for the Sonoma Hells Angels who lived a double life as an FBI informant, as well as two former members, will likely be the most significant of dozens of government witnesses in a racketeering trial expected to last months, prosecutors revealed Monday. The case centers on the Sonoma chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, but the government’s theory behind the most significant charge involves alleged events in New Hampshire, Boston, Fresno, Antioch, and Santa Rosa, where prosecutors allege several Hells Angels formed and carried out a plan to murder and illegally cremate one their own members. The result has been a body-less murder charge, the most significant count aimed at the group, which is also accused of several assaults, maiming a member for a rule violation, and operating the motorcycle club as a criminal organization that runs on violence. On Monday, three men — Jonathan “Jon Jon” Nelson, Russell “Rusty” Ott, and Brian Wendt became the first to go on trial out of 11 Hells Angels charged in a case that originated nearly five...

Bryson Galaz, who was six at the time of the incident, had joined a crowd of autograph-seekers near the field-level box seats by third base when he was struck in the head by a ball thrown by Angels pitcher Keynan Middleton, according to the L.A. Times. The family now says that the injury has had far-reaching consequences. “For three days, we didn’t know if my son was going to live or die,” the boy’s mother, Beatrice Galaz, said. “We were relieved that he survived, but since that day he has struggled in school. He’s simply not the same.” The Angels have not yet added netting along the foul lines as some teams have. The lawsuit, which alleges that the team was negligent for not protecting the public as players were warming up, seeks damages, compensation for medical costs, and claims a likely loss of future earnings due to disability they...

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Four major league players testified Tuesday they received oxycodone pills from a former Los Angeles Angels employee accused of providing Tyler Skaggs the drugs that led to the pitcher’s overdose death. Pitchers Matt Harvey, Mike Morin and Cam Bedrosian and first baseman C.J. Cron played for the Angels during the years federal prosecutors say Eric Prescott Kay obtained drugs for players. Kay faces drug distribution and conspiracy charges. After saying he was subpoenaed and would have used his Fifth Amendment right not to testify without immunity, Harvey acknowledged being a cocaine user before and during his season with the Angels in 2019. The former New York Mets star said he tried oxycodone provided by Skaggs during his season with the Angels and also provided drugs to Skaggs. Morin and Cron testified to longer periods of getting oxycodone from Kay, while Bedrosian said he received three or four pills once and gave the rest back after taking one and not liking the way it made him feel. Of the four players, only Cron is on a...

Can the New York Mets recover after losing starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard to the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year deal? Cohen and the Mets gave Syndergaard a qualifying offer of one year and $18 million, which was promptly rejected before Thor accepted a deal north of $20 million from the Angels. Los Angeles is in need of veteran pitching behind Shohei Ohtani, who is set to win an MVP this offseason. Syndergaard is likely the first piece of the Angels’ offseason puzzle, and they were willing to spend heavily on him. Cohen bought the Mets for $2.42 billion, so we know he has the money to pay Syndergaard as well. Instead, he allowed the Mets to take a hit to their pitching staff. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Curtis Sliwa walked into Frank McCourt High School to vote Tuesday on the Upper West Side, but the Republican candidate was not happy with the process. “First, they kept Gizmo out,” he told reporters. Gizmo is Sliwa’s 4-week-old cat. READ MORE: New York City Mayoral Candidates Eric Adams, Curtis Sliwa Hit The Polls As Campaigns Wind DownThat was one of three problems the Guardian Angels founder faced. He was asked to remove his campaign jacket, as required by law, and his ballot got stuck in the scanner. “They said we had to take the jackets off,” he said. “Now, my ballot is somehow in a repository in the machine without being counted.” He was eventually allowed to wear the jacket while voting. Outside those concerns, Sliwa is dealing with a bigger battle on Election Day. He has to overcome a 7-to-1 Democratic registration advantage in the city to win. It’s a huge undertaking for a man who has, to name a few, promised to tackle crime, homelessness, re-fund the police. He’s also said he will lose...
