A five-week-old baby and a man were killed in a horrific crash after a mother led police on a high-speed chase after stealing baby products from a Louisiana Walmart.  Edward Williams, of Monroe, and a five-week-old baby died after Candance Gill, 38, led police on a chase that ended up in two crumpled cars shortly after 6pm on Monday.  Gill and Williams were reportedly confronted by security at a Walmart for stealing baby products. By the time police arrived to the scene, the couple had already fled in their vehicle.  Gill's silver Chevrolet Camaro was spotted speeding down a highway by witnesses.  An 'officer pursued and activated his lights and sirens, but the vehicle failed to stop,' the police report, obtained by KNOE, said.  She reportedly drove on the shoulder of the road and ran several red lights shortly before crashing into another vehicle near Highway 165 and Renwick Street.  Gill fled the scene and was later found at an Otis Street residence. She was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center with a $271,950 bond.  The mother was charged with two counts of manslaughter, four counts of...
A woman is in jail after reportedly scamming a new Walmart employee into handing over a stack of cash — and she has allegedly pulled the same con before. The 38-year-old from Thibodaux, Louisiana, was arrested Monday, two days after she allegedly walked out of a Walmart in Mobile, Alabama, after taking money from a cashier. The thief had approached a recently hired employee, identified herself as a manager and asked for all the large bills from the cash drawer so she could do a money drop. The police did not say how much money she got. TV station WALA looked into the suspect’s record and found she was accused of doing the same thing at Walmarts in Louisiana: in Hammond in 2018, and in St. Charles and St. Mary parishes in 2019. In the St. Mary crime, she reportedly got $3,000. She also has a warrant for her arrest on suspicion of grand larceny in Scott County, Mississippi, but the details of that crime were not known. By MELINDA DESLATTE, Associated Press BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana will receive potentially thousands of extra doses of the coronavirus vaccine, steered to Walmart pharmacies under a program announced Tuesday by President Joe Biden's administration. Hours after the White House released its plan to distribute 1 million doses directly to retail pharmacies, Louisiana's health department announced it has opted into the program, using 56 Walmart pharmacies around the state. The pharmacy initiative starts Feb. 11. Whatever vaccine doses those Walmart pharmacies will start receiving through the federal program next week will come on top of the other Pfizer and Moderna doses shipped directly to the state each week to divvy up on its own. Health department officials said that’s why it made sense to participate, to boost the number of vaccine doses reaching arms in Louisiana. Louisiana, like other states, currently receives a percentage of the vaccine doses sent to states based on its population. If that same percentage is used, the health department said Louisiana could receive an extra 14,000 doses through the Biden administration’s retail pharmacy program....

Walmart said Tuesday it has added a second route for a pilot program that uses self-driving trucks for deliveries, expanding the tests beyond its home state of Arkansas into Louisiana.   Walmart’s initiative began last year when it began picking up customers’ online orders and delivering them in an autonomous car within a two-mile radius of a dark store in its hometown of Bentonville, Ark. Walmart partnered with Gatik — a California-based logistics company — and is now expanding the pilot to Louisiana and multi-temperature box trucks. The partners have driven more than 70,000 miles in Bentonville with a safety driver, Walmart said. The box trucks will operate in Bentonville as well as a longer delivery route in Louisiana, where they will pick up merchandise at a Walmart Supercenter and drop the items off at a designated location where customers can go to pick up their orders. The trucks will initially have a safety driver, Walmart said. The pilot will begin early next year along a 20-mile route between New Orleans and Metairie, Louisiana. “This unlocks the opportunity for customers...
MANY, La. (AP) — The body of a woman last seen in mid September at a Walmart store was found Wednesday in a heavily wooded area in north Louisiana, authorities said. Sabine and Natchitoches Parish authorities said deputies found the body of Taylor Nichols, 27, shortly after 10 a.m. west of Highway 171 near where some of her belongings were found earlier this week, news outlets reported. Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers and the sheriff’s office both said foul play is not suspected. Rivers will send Nichols’ body for an autopsy to determine a cause of death. Nichols was last seen by family on Sept. 15. Three days later, her SUV was located in the Walmart parking lot. Sheriff’s detectives got Nichols’ cell phone records and found there had been no activity since Sept. 18. Video surveillance footage provided by Walmart showed Nichols parking her car around 7:30 p.m., go into the store for a short time, go back to her SUV then walk toward the parking lot's south exit. Personal items belonging to Nichols were found Monday, including shoes, a...

When the officer asked Taylor for his license, he replied: “I could give it to you but I’m not,” the affidavit said. The retailer announced it was requiring masks on the same day of the attack. Walmart announced that it was requiring all shoppers to wear masks while visiting its stores on Wednesday, and already one individual has been arrested for disorderly conduct and assault after becoming angry for being asked to leave the store when he refused to comply. Ricky Taylor of West Monroe, Louisiana was shopping at his local Walmart but was asked to leave because he didn’t want to wear a mask, NBC News reports. After exiting the store, he used his car to bump a police officer repeatedly. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, resisting a police officer, and disorderly conduct. Reportedly, the incident began inside when the man shouted “you can’t make me wear a f*cking mask” and “I’m not wearing a f*cking mask” at the officer. The officer told Taylor that he was trespassing and needed to leave the Walmart building. He was asked for his driver’s license, which he refused to provide, saying that he could provide it but he chose not to....
A Louisiana man was arrested after hitting a police officer with his car after being told to wear a face mask at a Walmart store, according to The Hill. Louisiana has a statewide mandate for people older than the age of 8 to wear masks in public, and Walmart has a nationwide store policy requiring masks for all shoppers that will begin Monday, regardless of state rules. What happened? Ricky Taylor, 64, was in Walmart without a mask Tuesday. A West Monroe Police Department officer approached him and told him to put a mask on. Taylor refused, and allegedly told the officer "You can't make me wear a f***ing mask" and "I'm not wearing a f***ing mask." Taylor claims he has a medical condition that should exempt him from any mask requirement. According to the arrest report, Taylor refused to give the officer his driver's license and attempted to leave the store. The officer followed him to his car, and tried to relay the license plate number to dispatch. While the officer was standing by the...
In Louisiana, on the very first day of required masks at a West Monroe Walmart, a man enraged about being asked to leave bumped a police officer with his car, twice, in a temper tantrum that may see him locked up for some time, according to authorities. The West Monroe PD says local man Ricky Taylor, 64, has been arrested and is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting a police officer, and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer. After the officer told Taylor that all customers are required to wear masks, and offered him a mask to wear, Taylor did his best Twitter impersonation by apparently shrieking “You can’t make me wear a f***ing mask” in a profane tirade at the cop. They were inside the store at the time. The police officer then told @ TaylorMAGATrump4Life (probably) that he was now officially trespassing and would have to leave. Taylor refused to give his driver’s license to the officer, according to various press reports, and then the confrontation moved outside, where Taylor got into his vehicle....
