A lot of jobs are out there, but it’s often not an easy match,” said Bernick. READ MORE: Live Updates: Hurricane Ida Slams Louisiana Many of the people who lost jobs during the...

In California, confusion and failed communication have resulted in some eligible parents and family caregivers of people with disabilities being turned away from covid vaccination sites. Oscar Madrigal is one of those caregivers. Her two sons are on the autism spectrum and the youngest requires almost constant care. When he began to be vaccinated, Madrigal thought that parents like him were going to take priority and not have to wait long. In January, the California Department of Developmental Services issued a letter stating that family members like him considered themselves health workers and qualified to receive the vaccine immediately. Through Facebook groups, parents of children with disabilities shared the news with enthusiasm. Madrigal was relieved. As the primary caregiver for her youngest son, she didn’t know how she would cope if her family contracted the coronavirus. But he soon noticed that the tone of the messages on social networks changed. Parents began to post that they were being rejected at the vaccination sites. Only families receiving services from some of California’s regional centers, nonprofit organizations that help people...

Bryant seems pretty relaxed despite what could be a stressful time in a contract year. That includes getting a surprising text this offseason that new Cubs President Jed Hoyer helped clear up. “So I got a text like that weekend, ‘Welcome to the Mets.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, well, what?’ It was a Connecticut number. I don’t know who it was. So I obviously called them – called, you know, my agent, and he calls them and he said, ‘There’s been nothing going on,’” Bryant said. “But (Hoyer has) been really transparent with me and my side, and honestly, I’ve really appreciated that. I’ve never had that type...
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox acquired speedy outfielder Jarrod Dyson in a trade with Pittsburgh on Friday and reinstated Nick Madrigal from the 10-day injured list. Dyson is batting just .157 (8 for 57) this season, but he swiped 30 bags last year. He won the World Series in 2015 with Kansas City and could serve as a valuable pinch runner for Chicago as it chases its first playoff appearance since 2008. The White Sox sent international signing bonus pool money to the last-place Pirates for the 36-year-old Dyson, who is a .245 career hitter with 254 steals in 879 games. He just faced Chicago on Tuesday night, going 0 for 3 while Lucas Giolito threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 victory for the White Sox. Dyson was the odd man out for Pittsburgh after it claimed outfielder Anthony Alford off waivers from Toronto on Thursday. To make room for Dyson on the roster, Chicago designated outfielder Nicky Delmonico for assignment and optioned outfielder Luis González to its alternate training site in Schaumburg. Madrigal, one of Chicago’s top...
CHICAGO (CBS) — The surging Chicago White Sox bolstered their outfield depth on Friday, acquiring Jarrod Dyson from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for international signing bonus pool money. The team also recalled top prospect Nick Madrigal from the injured list, after he injured his shoulder more than three weeks ago. Dyson, 36, has gotten off to a slow start at the plate during his part-time role in Pittsburgh. But over his last 10 games, Dyson is hitting .250 with two RBI and two steals in 24 at-bats. Dyson signed a one-year, $2 million deal to join the Pirates this offseason. He has $333,000 remaining of his prorated $720,000 salary. With the White Sox, Dyson will likely become the club’s off the bench outfielder (behind Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Nomar Marzara, Adam Engel) and he’ll be utilized as a base running replacement. Dyson has appeared in 20 games with the Pirates this year, batting .157 with five RBI, five runs scored, and four stolen bases. His career slash line is only .245/.317/.334, with 76 doubles, 36 triples, 21 home runs,...

In each case, a return to the MLB rotation could be several weeks away. Hahn further weighed in on veteran slugger Edwin Encarnacion. He’s said to be dealing with some SC joint inflammation.
