In Chatam County, North Carolina, an investigation recently found that students at a school pretended to “sell” black classmates at a mock “slave auction.” It took place in the presence of staff and faculty and was recorded on video. According to a parent of a child who reported the incident, one student was given the title of “slavemaster” because he “knew how to handle them,” and children apparently sang the n-word during the horrific ordeal. Source: The Damage Report/Youtube Parents complained that several students involved were only given a one-day suspension as a punishment for their actions. Black lives matter and we must protect black children from traumatizing racial violence in schools. ONE woman went out to dinner with a walking red flag who called her "uncultured" for her taste in food. Social media user Margaux recently posted a video exposing the horrible date she went on with a man who allegedly tried to dictate everything from her outfit to her hair color. 4One woman claimed her date tried to dictate what she wore out to dinnerCredit: TikTok/margauxrita 4'Just wear like jeans and a black sweater, or something like that'Credit: TikTok/margauxrita Immediately after inviting Margaux out to dinner, she claimed the man tried to control what she wore on their date. "‘Just wear like jeans and a black sweater, or something like that," he texted her. "I assumed it was a suggestion, although oddly specific," Margaux said. "Well, no one’s going to tell me what to do, so I don’t wear that." READ MORE ON DISASTER DATESDATE DRAMA I went on date with a dull guy who brought 4 of his friends - & got with his pal'excuse me?' Haitian migrants are seen at the Terraza Fandango shelter, in Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila state, Mexico, on Sept. 25, 2021. Reports last winter revealed that while the Biden administration was internally warned that Haitian deportations under Stephen Miller’s anti-asylum policy could violate human rights and international refugee law, they continued into the thousands. But just a few months later, the administration would then also issue a memo reminding U.S. border officers that they have the discretion to exempt Ukrainians from the policy.  Cameroonian asylum-seeker Wilfred Tebah “doesn’t begrudge the U.S. for swiftly granting humanitarian protections” for families fleeing Russia’s brutal invasion, the Associated Press reports. He just seeks the same consideration for Black asylum-seekers who are also fleeing for their lives. "I will be held in prison, tortured, and even killed if I am deported,” he told the AP. “I’m very scared. As a human, my life matters too." CHICAGO (CBS) — As we celebrate Black History Month CBS 2 shares the story of a little boy, living in poverty who had a dream to become a Chicago firefighter. CBS 2’s Jim Williams reports, that dream came true, thanks his hard work and the extraordinary kindness of men and women, Black and white, at one firehouse on the West Side. Today, he is Lieutenant Antwan Dobson, himself an 17-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department. It is his life’s work. “Better than winning the lottery. And I...
Family legend has it that I was found tied to a tree. The circumstances are unclear, but it appears my birth mother had left me there in a South Korean coastal town so I could be taken to an orphanage. My adoptive mother told the tree story to my godmother, who later told me, but the story is incomplete and so typical of my childhood in Korea. Fragmented memories, broken narratives, legal documents and my birth country’s history are all I have to piece together what brought me, a child of war, from Asia to a new home in Compton, California, USA. My only memory of the woman I think must have been my birth mother is in a small space, probably a shanty. She is strikingly beautiful, with long black hair and ruby lips. I am mesmerized by those lips and the shiny tube with the ruby red paste that paints them to perfection. My other memory is of Sonyeon — “boy” in Korean (I’ve forgotten his name) — and he is my constant companion. Sonyeon and I are...
A reveler was left red-cheeked after she was stripped down to her underwear while attempting the famous Dirty Dancing lift.  The anonymous woman, believed to be from the UK, was filmed as she and a male friend tried to recreate the iconic move performed by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the 1987 movie.  However, things didn't go quite as planned, and the woman's dress ripped as she tumbled to the ground, leaving her wearing nothing but her black underwear.  The video has gone viral after it surfaced on Twitter and has been watched more than 2.6 million times.  At the start of the clip, the woman could be seen wearing a khaki dress tied at the waist, with black boots. HANGING around the sports centre while her mum Cicely did an exercise class, Michelle Griffith-Robinson was like any other 12-year-old: bored and in desperate search of some fun. To keep her occupied, her mum handed her a £1 coin and told her to join the running group - and Michelle’s life was changed forever.  5Michelle Griffith Robinson was the first woman to jump more than 14 metresCredit: Dave Keightley A decade later, the now-retired triple jumper made history as the first-ever woman to jump more than 14 metres - a distance just shy of the length of a London bus - at the 1994 British Championships in Sheffield.  Two years after that, she would represent Great Britain at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. But, that day, such athletic glory all depended on £1. “My mum was working out along to the song Rock The Boat, and she could see I was so bored,” says Michelle, now 49, to Fabulous. “That was the best money she ever invested - I was hooked.”  Thereafter, her life was set - quite literally -...
(CNN)When I was 12 years old, I wore a pink shirt. Right before leaving the house, my stepfather stopped me at the door: "You shouldn't wear that. It's for girls and people will think that you're gay. It's bad enough if people think that you support them." His words were a stark lesson in gender expression. If I couldn't even wear colors associated with girls, how in the world was I supposed to be able to ever tell my family I actually was a girl?As painful as this incident was for someone like me who grew up Black and trans in 1980s Atlanta, Georgia, it was not uncommon. The excessive standards that Black people are held to by the wider society means that nonconformity -- any expression considered "not the right way" -- is dismissed and erased. For me, this meant that I could not speak my truth and use my voice to tell the world who I was when I knew it. Like so many trans people, I grew up invisible. (Photo: Adobe Stock) Black professionals often face one of two choices when embarking on a corporate career path: adapt or die. Although I say that metaphorically, there is the very real possibility that these choices manifest themselves literally through various assaults to our mental health, identity, income, and aspirations.  In February, I tweeted, “Corporate America’s toxic trait is guilting you for wanting more for yourself while simultaneously gaslighting you into thinking your skills, talents, and experiences are worth less than you deserve.”   That tweet came out of frustration on the job. It became a thread I would add to each time something happened that made me feel powerless, unseen, unheard and unimportant. Soon I would see the tweet surface on other social media platforms as I and others would share and discuss our experiences with the gaslighting and feelings of guilt that keep our heads down and mind idle as we continue to bury our dreams, talents, and identity that exists outside of a corporate structure. Finally, on May 28, I quit my job without notice, effective...
More On: mayoral race Letters to the Editor — May 14, 2021 New NYC mayoral poll shows Eric Adams leading Andrew Yang ahead of first debate Up for debate: Democratic mayoral contenders face off on TV for first time I lived through NYC’s bad old days — and know Eric Adams will get the city back on track Mayoral hopeful Maya Wiley on Thursday said “I have been black all my life” before promising to defund the NYPD by $1 billion and shift the money to the city’s schools. During the first debate among the eight Democratic candidates, Wiley also vowed to appoint a civilian police commissioner and mourned a 28-year-old reputed gang member who was fatally shot in Brooklyn as a “child who is dead.” When asked to discuss public safety by moderator Errol Louis of NY1, Wiley said, “Let me just start by saying, I have been black all my life and that means I know two things: I know what it is like to fear crime and I know what it means to fear police violence.”...
(Photo: Getty Images) After a previous summer of racial uprisings and calls for racial justice, Black people are still being persecuted for simply saying their lives matter.  Last week, brothers Bentlee and Rodney Herbert, ages 8 and 5, respectively, were taken out of their Oklahoma elementary school classrooms and punished for wearing “Black Lives Matter” T-shirts.  According to the New York Times, the superintendent of their school district told their mother, Jordan Herbert, that politics would “not be allowed at school.”  “He told me when the George Floyd case blew up that politics will not be allowed at school,” Herbert told the publication at the time, referring to the superintendent. “I told him, once again, a ‘Black Lives Matter’ T-shirt is not politics.” Bentlee and Rodney Herbert, ages 8 and 5, respectively, were taken out of their Oklahoma elementary school classrooms and punished for wearing “Black Lives Matter” T-shirts. A HEARTBROKEN boyfriend paid a loving tribute to his partner who was killed and eaten alive by a black bear. The remains of 39-year-old Laney Malavolta, were found by her boyfriend in a well-known footpath in Durango, La Plata County. 1The devastated boyfriend paid tribute to his partnerCredit: everloved.com Investigators believe the woman got attacked by a bear after taking her dogs on a walk in woodland in Colorado earlier this week. The grieving boyfriend has now paid an emotional tribute to his partner who he calls his "northern star and the love of my life." He said: "Laney spent her life in the outdoors and was an experienced and knowledgeable operator in the back country. "Her greatest joy was to be in the woods with our friends, our family and our dogs. "While Laney’s physical presence was suddenly taken from this earth, all that know and love her can take comfort; "Laney’s soul will live forever in her favorite place, doing her favorite thing. "She would not have wanted it any other way. While this tragedy...
Self-described "trained Marxist" and Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors said her recent home purchasing spree was part of living her life "in direct support to Black people" and decried conservative media coverage as "racist and sexist." In an interview Thursday with left-wing activist Marc Lamont Hill, Cullors pushed back against criticism that her personal politics contradicted her extravagant living. "I think that is a critique that is wanting, and I say that because the way that I live my life is in direct support to Black people, including my Black family members, first and foremost," she said. "For so many Black folks who are able to invest in themselves and their community, they choose to invest in their family, and that's what I have chosen to do." INSIDE BLM CO-FOUNDER PATRISSE KHAN-CULLORS' MILLION-DOLLAR REAL-ESTATE BUYING BINGE She said she had several family members she financially assisted, including her brother and mother, in addition to her own child. "I see my money as not my own. I see it as my family's money as well," she said. She blasted "right-wing media" by claiming outlets...
(CNN)I'm a Black man who has never personally had a nasty run-in with the police. I should have no trouble with them. But I fear them, and I know they fear me. Issac BaileyCaron Nazario, an Army officer, was pepper-sprayed in the face during a traffic stop in Virginia; Daunte Wright was shot by a cop in Minnesota who allegedly mistakenly reached for the wrong weapon; George Floyd died in handcuffs while a police officer knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. I've met young Black men so terrified of police in their neighborhood they stopped telling anyone about the times cops would harass them or rough them up. Heck, they didn't even trust me despite all we had in common. A kind of helplessness had set in among them, as well as an anger just underneath the surface always ready to boil over. We've bathed our culture in so many guns that it is reasonable to wonder who is carrying one and what they plan to do with it. It's not crazy for cops to assume...
Another Black man was shot and killed by police on Sunday during what should have been a minor interaction, or one that shouldn’t have happened at all. What makes it especially horrifying, beyond the needless loss of life at the hands of the state, is that 20-year-old Daunte Wright was killed in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, just miles from where former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is on trial for murder in the killing of George Floyd less than a year ago. As a picture of the problem of police violence toward Black people in the United States of America, 2021, “Black man shot and killed at questionable traffic stop 10 miles from the trial of a police officer for killing another Black man during an arrest for a minor alleged offense” says a lot. Daunte Wright was apparently pulled over for an air freshener blocking his rearview window, though his father notes that his car had tinted windows, so it’s surprising police could see that much. In either case, as the ACLU of Minnesota tweeted, “We have concerns that police appear to have used dangling air...

More On: children Boy with ‘severe trauma’ found dead inside NYC apartment California bill would ban ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ departments in stores Massachusetts empowers schools commissioner to force school reopening Florida couple charged with neglecting 3 children, killing 1 An hour after my daughter was born, I found myself racing back and forth between my wife’s hospital room and my newborn’s crib in a neonatal intensive-care unit. Both faced dire health challenges. It was the worst experience of my life, but in the end, mother and baby recovered.  The ordeal taught me something: Nothing on this earth is more fulfilling than being a husband and father. Driving home from the hospital, I received a call: I’d been accepted to Yale Law School. After overcoming one obstacle, I would soon face another as a young dad and a law student.  A year later, I’ve had the privilege of telling my classmates about the joys of marriage and parenthood — but not everyone has been receptive. One student told me it might be “unethical” to have children in today’s America.  That view...
Camila Oliveira delighted her Instagram followers by revealing a hint of her private life. The UFC octagon girl showcased her voluptuous figure in sexy lingerie for a new photo. In the photo, Camila stood inside a room holding onto the silver handles of white double doors, which opened inward. Behind her was a wall of large windows, a half wall that had a cream couch with a variety of throw pillows on it and a fluffy rug in front of it. An intricate crystal chandelier hung down from the ceiling. Camila was the focal point of the photograph, despite her luxurious surroundings. She contrasted nicely with the light-colored room. The UFC ring girl wore a sexy black lace and sheer teddy that featured a large chest opening. The garment revealed a generous look at her rounded cleavage and a bit of her flat tummy. The high-cut legs emphasized her slender waist and curvy hips. An intricate leather strap garter belt wrapped around her waist and connected with silver rings to matching belts around her thighs.
