Share this: According to a just released poll by the Siena College Research Institute, Governor Hochul’s overall job performance rating is negative 36-57%, which is down from 43-53% just last month. As it is already expected to be a tough election year nationally for Democrats, this gives Republicans even more hope here in deep blue New York. Indeed, the President’s political party almost always loses seats in Congress in mid-term elections. In modern mid-terms the party whose President sits in the White House have lost an average of thirty seats in the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. The extent of these losses is dependent on the Presidents’ popularity and the state of the economy. Today, Biden’s ratings are in the toilet and the state of the economy is miserable with soaring inflation hitting Americans where it hurts most- in their wallets and purses. However, in addition to these factors there are ever increasing crime rates, with many placing the blame on Democrat policies. We expect that this anti-Democrat mood will trickle down to state and local elections as well....
President Joe Biden criticized 'ugly' Republicans for targeting Disney at his two west coast fundraisers Thursday. 'This is not your father's Republican Party,' Biden said Thursday afternoon at a high-dollar fundraiser at the Portland Yacht Club, co-hosted by The New Republic's owner and editor Win McCormack and his political consultant wife, Carol Butler. 'This is the MAGA party.'  The president said the Republican Party is 'not even conservative in the traditional sense of conservatism.' 'I mean it's ugly. I mean, look at what's happening now in Florida. Christ, they're going after Mickey Mouse,' Biden said.    He made similar pro-Disney remarks at his second fundraiser in Seattle, Washington, headlining an affair at the lakefront home of Mary Snapp and Spencer Frazer hosted by Microsoft's President and Vice Chair Brad Smith and his wife Kathy Surace-Smith. 'There's nothing conservative about throwing Disney out of its current posture… over saying gay?' the president mused to the Seattle crowd. Earlier Thursday, Florida Republicans started the process of dissolving Disney's special status that allowed Walt Disney World to act as its own government.  Disney publicly criticized...

The Republican-led New Hampshire state Legislature passed a new congressional map on Thursday over the objections of the GOP governor as the state scrambles to apportion its federal districts. Republican Gov. Chris Sununu dashed hopes that the Legislature's map, which would have likely cemented a 1-1 partisan split between Republicans and Democrats for the state's two congressional districts, would become law, quickly pledging to veto the bill on the grounds that it was too partisan. "The proposed congressional redistricting map is not in the best interest of New Hampshire, and I will veto it as soon as it reaches my desk. The citizens of this state are counting on us to do better," he said Thursday. NEW HAMPSHIRE REPUBLICANS DIVIDED ON HOW AGGRESSIVELY TO GERRYMANDER HOUSE SEATS New Hampshire's state Senate passed the map in a narrow 13–11 vote Thursday without amending the version that previously cleared the state House. Now, the lawmakers are set for a showdown as Republicans in the Legislature lack the votes to override Sununu's veto. Until Thursday, Sununu, a...
KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday urged U.N. Security Council reforms that would give Africa permanent representation there, saying such changes would prevent “aggression against Africa.” Museveni spoke at a meeting attended by high-ranking officials representing 10 of the African Union’s 55 members. The meeting is the latest in a series focusing on changes at the Security Council that would favor the African continent of 1.3 billion people. A previous meeting called for at least two permanent seats with veto powers and two non-permanent ones. “The U.N. Security Council should have been and must be reformed,” Museveni said. “This is not a favor by anybody but a right of all peoples that inhabit the planet Earth.” The matter of reforming the 15-member council has provoked debate for decades. Its five permanent members reflect the international power structure at the end of World War II: the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain. The council’s 10 other seats rotate among members who serve two-year terms. Gabon, Kenya and Ghana are among the council’s current 15...

Voters in multiple states across the country are heading to the polls on Tuesday, and while most contests aren't seeing the same high-profile coverage as Virginia's gubernatorial election, the various races could have implications for state and even national politics going into the 2022 midterm cycle. In New Jersey, incumbent Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is defending his seat against a GOP challenger while New York City is voting in a new mayor as Bill De Blasio ends his second term at the end of this year.       Minneapolis, a city still shaken by George Floyd's murder, will vote on whether to disband its police department and create a new public safety agency. Ohio's 11th and 15th districts have general elections for open House seats - one in a blue-leaning area and the other won by Donald Trump in 2020 - though Democrats are hoping for a major upset to add to their majority in Congress.  And national conservative groups are pouring money into an unlikely area - local school board races - hoping to capitalize on frustration over pandemic-related closures, mask...

CNN counter-terror analyst Phil Mudd had harsh words Wednesday for Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton and Republican Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer. Mudd joined “New Day” anchors John Berman and Brianna Keilar to discuss the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, and the topic turned to Moulton and Meijer’s unauthorized trip to Kabul. (RELATED: Two House Lawmakers Secretly Travel To Kabul Amid Frantic Evacuations) WATCH: “They are two veterans who say they want to go on a fact finding mission,” Berman said of Moulton and Meijer. “It’s been sharply criticized by people inside the administration, who called it everything from unhelpful to basically outrageous. I wonder what your view of it is.” “Reprehensible,” Mudd replied. “‘Sharply criticized’ is too polite.” Mudd went on to say that if the president — who is responsible for American national security above all else — had determined the situation was so dangerous that the military should withdraw, there was no excuse for members of Congress to take matters into their own hands and go anyway. “So two members of Congress, without the support of their...
If you buy more than one plane ticket, this trick will help you to know better what is the lowest price available at that moment. Photo: . Image. When we plan a trip and think about how we can get cheaper air tickets, we generally resort to buying in advance or selecting certain dates and times with less demand, especially if it is a trip as a couple or family in which expenses skyrocket. Scott Keyes, founder of the website Scott’s Cheap Flights, specialized in finding cheap tickets to destinations around the world, has another trick that can help you save money on buying tickets for your family vacations and that, although it is not infallible , it works in most cases. Keyes explained to CNBC Make It that airlines generally sell tickets by section and that the seats in each section have different prices. For example, a flight might have 10 seats for $ 99, 15 for 129, 30 for 149, and so on. The airline automatically selects the same section of seats for all tickets purchased as...
The Iowa state capitol building. Daily Kos Elections is out with the 2020 presidential results for every state Senate and state House district in Iowa, where Donald Trump's broad victory helped his party maintain its iron grip on the legislature. You can find all of our district-level data nationwide at this bookmarkable permalink. This longtime swing state lurched hard to Donald Trump in 2016 after backing Barack Obama twice, but Democrats hoped that a shift back to the left would help them claim their first state House majority since 2010, which would have required a pickup of four seats. Instead, though, Trump beat Joe Biden in Iowa by a wide 53-45 margin, and Republicans secured a 59-41 majority in the lower chamber after netting six seats. As badly as 2020 went for Team Blue, though, crossover voting actually worked in their favor in Iowa in a year when it mostly benefited downballot Republicans nationally. Five of the 63 Trump seats in the 100-member House, where members are up every two years, are held by Democrats, while just one of the 37 Biden districts is represented by...

West Virginia's three House members, all Republicans, could soon find themselves in a game of political musical chairs, with only two returning to Congress in 2023. The Mountain State's population dropped by 3.2% over the past decade, by far the biggest dip in the nation. As a result, West Virginia's representation in the House will lose one of its House seats for the 2022 campaign and over the next decade. But none of its three House members, Reps. Carol Miller, Alex Mooney, and David McKinley have announced retirement plans. That could set up a Republican-on-Republican fight to stay in Washington, though the trio is trying to play down intraparty tensions. "At this time, we all plan to seek re-election to Congress. Once the West Virginia State Legislature meets in the fall and redraws the congressional maps, we will consider the issue again at that time," the three members said in a statement shared with the Washington Examiner. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that he’s nominated Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas to fill one of two vacancies on the state’s Court of Appeals. Singas’ selection was one of two the governor made Tuesday to the state’s top court. He also picked Judge Anthony Cannataro, the administrative judge for New York City’s Civil Court, as well. Both will need to be confirmed by the state Senate – as will the eight judges he picked to fill vacancies in the appellate division of the Supreme Court and the eight people he nominated for the state Court of Claims. In a statement, Cuomo said New York’s legal system should have “the best and brightest minds” on the bench. "These individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and diverse backgrounds and experience to their positions, and I am confident their service will benefit New Yorkers for years to come,” he said. Cuomo picked Singas to fill the upcoming vacancy created by Judge Leslie Stein, who will retire in June. Singas was first elected as Nassau County’s top prosecutor in 2015,...
West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin on Friday said that he opposes a bill to make Washington, DC, the 51st state — effectively killing a push by fellow Democrats that would all but guarantee them two more seats in the Senate. Manchin said that he believes a constitutional amendment is required, rather than a House-passed bill that would shrink the federal district and admit the remainder of DC as a new state. A constitutional amendment won’t happen. It would require two-thirds support in each chamber of Congress and ratification in three-fourths of states. Manchin told local radio host Hoppy Kercheval of MetroNews that Democrats historically believed a constitutional amendment was needed, He said Attorney General Bobby Kennedy and the Carter administration both held that view. “They all came to the same conclusion: If Congress wants to make DC a state, it should propose a constitutional amendment. It should propose a constitutional amendment and let the people of America vote,” Manchin said. DC statehood would result in two new senators and one new voting member of the House. All likely would...
