Getty Pete Carroll's Seahawks say they are happy with new quarterback Drew Lock. Future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees dropped a bombshell with a viral tweet opening the door to playing football again, and it did not take long for the Seattle Seahawks to be linked to the legendary signal-caller. Brees announced his retirement last offseason and spent 2021 as an NBC NFL analyst. The legendary quarterback created a frenzy among football fans by suggesting he “may play football again” via a message that is approaching 10,000 retweets. “Despite speculation from media about my future this fall, I’m currently undecided,” Brees tweeted on May 16, 2022. “I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids or all of the above. I’ll let you know.” Brees would be a free agent which opens the door ever so slightly for the Seahawks to “shoot their shot,” even if the odds are long that the team could bring the Saints...

Asked what the Liverpool boss said at half-time by BT Sport, Van Dijk replied: "Play more, play football, play the Liverpool way, how we’ve been playing basically the whole season. "Get on the ball, have a lot of movements in the ball but also behind the last line, they have a high line, so with the speed we have we have to mix that up as well. "But also we have to show much we really want to go to the final, and that’s how it starts. And second half...
Defensive lineman Thomas Booker went to Stanford because he wanted a better understanding of the game and more versatility as a player, characteristics that could lead him to the National Football League. The 6-foot-3, 303-pound Booker isn’t listed as one of the premier defensive linemen in college football alongside Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson, Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeau, Florida State’s Jermaine Johnson II or Georgia Jordan Davis, but is generally considered in the top 10 to 20 range at the position. It means the Gilman graduate is likely on an NFL roster by the end of the three-day draft, which begins Thursday night. Will he get selected as an end or tackle? Booker doesn’t know and doesn’t care. The versatility is his strength. “It’s good to have a guy who can play multiple roles at a high level, said Booker, an Ellicott City resident. “I didn’t play inside or outside occasionally at Stanford but did both evenly, especially in the last two years. You don’t have to take me off the field. You can put me inside on pass rush downs or outside...
Michael Cross remembers it like it was yesterday. He remembers his son and Maryland football safety Nick Cross sitting in front of the television as a child, watching Washington’s NFL team play on Sundays. Michael recalls the joy on his son’s face as he watched former Washington safety Sean Taylor torment opponents and the tears that streamed from Cross’s eyes whenever they lost. As Cross is days away from the 2022 NFL draft, Michael is filled with nothing but excitement and happiness, knowing his son’s dreams of playing professionally are close to reality. “It’s right in front of him,” Michael said. “He’s fulfilling his dream.” Michael said Cross’ decision to either enter the draft or return to Maryland for his senior season was a difficult one. He said Cross enjoyed the college environment and believed he had more to accomplish. But, after talking to agents, Cross realized it was best to play professionally. “The opportunity is here now to seize the moment,” Michael said. “It was getting a lot of discussions, a lot of agonizing with him, in particular, [and]...
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Brody Brecht’s schedule is so full, sometimes he make notes as a reminder of him where he needs to be and when. The Iowa freshman is working double-duty this spring. He’s a pitcher on the baseball team and a wide receiver on the football team. With baseball in season and football going through spring practice, it’s all about time management. “You kind of have to prioritize,” Brecht said. “And you also have to make time for academics, because those are important, too. It’s about getting done what you need to get done.” Brecht is among at least a half-dozen Division I athletes who are playing baseball and participating in spring football simultaneously this year, according to conference and school sports information directors who responded to an Associated Press survey. The others known to be doing both are Kansas outfielder-running back Devin Neal and first baseman-tight end Trevor Kardell, Michigan outfielder-linebacker Joey Velasquez, Georgia outfielder-receiver Randon Jernigan, Citadel outfielder-defensive back Dominick Poole and St. Thomas (Minnesota) pitcher-punter Kolby Gartner. At least another dozen athletes play baseball...
THE FILM Bend it Like Beckham was of historic importance to English football. It left its mark as surely as a muddy boot on a goalpost. 3Chelsea manager Emma Hayes leads the revolution in women's footballCredit: EPA Two decades ago it told the story of “Jess” Bhamra, a Manchester United-loving young girl from a traditional Sikh family who plays football against her parents’ wishes, highlighting misogyny in sport. It stirred women’s interest in our game — so much so that, 20 years after the film’s release in April 2002, 3.4million women now play football, as reported by the FA. The growth is phenomenal. The Bend It phenomenon freed women’s imagination in a way perhaps that The Beatles did 40 years earlier, although the effects were very different. He won a Super Bowl with Washington and is now tackling cancer with the V Foundation. Joe Theismann returns to host the seventh annual Virginia Vine event in Middleburg, Virginia, from Friday through Sunday to benefit the late Jimmy Valvano’s V Foundation. “This is something that’s near and dear to me, to a lot of people,” Thiesmann told WTOP. “If your life and your friends haven’t been touched by cancer, you’re very, very blessed, but there are so many people who have. We want to continue to fight and fight and fight to find a cure and the only way we can do it is through financing and donations.” The three-day event kicks off Friday with a “Nashville Comes to Middleburg” concert by Maggie Rose. Saturday includes a panel discussion with athletes and scientists, followed by a gala dinner and live auction. It all wraps on Sunday with a farewell breakfast. Events will be held at Stone Tower Winery and Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Virginia. Jim Valvano’s daughter Jamie will present the inaugural Virginia Vine Visionary Award to Mark Lerner,...
Jack Lausch has experienced some big moments in the past year, putting together a huge season at quarterback for Brother Rice and committing to play football at Northwestern. The senior outfielder added another one to the list March 24 when he hit a walk-off two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift the Crusaders to a 7-5 win over IMG Academy at the National High School Select Tournament in Emerson, Georgia. IMG, a boarding school in Bradenton, Florida, known for bringing in top athletes from around the country, was ranked No. 2 in the nation at the time by Perfect Game. “That was pretty cool,” Lausch said. “That was a great team win for us. Everyone on the team played awesome. That was a great moment to be a part of, and that win’s going to give us momentum going forward.” Brother Rice (10-0) went on to win the tournament with a 4-0 record, also beating two teams from Tennessee and another from Florida. It helped to move the Crusaders into the Perfect Game rankings at No. 22. They are...
WESTMONT, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- This week, the Los Angeles Rams hosted an assembly at Washington Prep High School in Westmont to celebrate the varsity football team for being one of the two winners of the 5th annual L.A. Rams Academic Challenge. The challenge is to have LAUSD football teams compete against each other in the classroom, not the field, as they strive for academic performance."I am actually glad they came out to support us and stuff for education because we have been working hard for that," said Corey Thomas Jr., a Washington Prep student. The Washington Prep team won for having the most improved grade point average. The second winner was Hamilton High School for having the highest grade point average. Each school was presented with a $2,500 equipment grant."If you don't have the grades you can't play football. You got to have the grades to play sports, to do anything," said Thomas.Ram's legend Todd Lyght was a part of the celebration at Washington Prep and gave the team a speech, encouraging them to pursue success in the classroom."You know, you...
Lamar Bell doesn’t claim remarkable foresight for recruiting Nicholas Morrow. Morrow played offensive lineman for his first three seasons at Huntsville (Ala.) High School before switching to outside linebacker as a senior, but Bell saw enough film to know Morrow would be one of the better athletes on the then-Greenville College Panthers defense. An NFL opportunity — much less a career entering its sixth season— wasn’t a topic of conversation. Bell, then a defensive graduate assistant and now the associate head coach/defensive coordinator, talked with Morrow about becoming a biology major and potentially entering the medical field because Division III players almost always have to plan for life off the field after college. Morrow didn’t have many other offers. Though he lived in Hunstville, his family was from St. Louis, about 45 miles southwest of the school now known as Greenville University. Morrow’s father is a pastor, and Greenville is a Christian school. Those three factors were enough for coaches to draw him in. And that’s how the newest Chicago Bears linebacker ended up starting what he called a “humbling”...

According to Ghanaweb, Muntari was at his "scintillating" best in the victory. The performance only added to Muntari's fairytale return to football, with the midfielder helping Hearts of Oak lift the President's Cup earlier this month. Read More SportDEFOE'S DONE...
CRYSTAL PALACE sensation Marc Guehi has been called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad, after some impressive performances for the Eagles. The 21-year-old centre back, who was signed from Chelsea for £20million, could make his Three Lions debut with friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast to come. 8Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been called up to Gareth Southgate's England teamCredit: Getty It's perhaps fitting that his international bow might come against the Ivory Coast, where his family left when he was just 12 months old in search of a better life. (CNN)The president of the Polish Football Association has described FIFA's plan to allow a Russian team to continue playing international soccer matches as "disgraceful." Football's world governing body announced on Sunday that Russia must play all upcoming international fixtures on neutral sites without fans under the name "Football Union of Russia," following the invasion of Ukraine."No flag or anthem of Russia will be used in matches where teams from the Football Union of Russia participate," added FIFA, which said its measures were "in line with recommendations from the International Olympic Committee."Poland and Russia are scheduled to play in a World Cup playoff semifinal on March 24 on March 24 at the VTB Arena in Moscow. FIFA, international soccer’s governing body, has rejected calls to ban Russia’s national team from the coming World Cup tournament, opting instead for lesser penalties. According to ESPN, instead of forcing the Russian team to sit on the sidelines, FIFA has decided that Russia will now play as the “RFU,” or the “Russian Football Union,” instead of the Russian National team. In its unanimous decision, FIFA also decided that the Russian team may not use Russia’s national flag or its national anthem. Russian President Vladimir Putin (R) caresses the trophy next to FIFA president Gianni Infantino (C) during the trophy ceremony at the end of the Russia 2018 World Cup final football match between France and Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on July 15, 2018. The decision was made even though organized soccer does have a precedent set to exclude teams during wartime. For instance, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UFEA) excluded Yugoslavia in 1992 after the UN-sanctioned the country for initiating its war on the Balkans. Despite FIFA’s ruling to allow Russia to play,...
THOMAS FRANK hopes Christian Eriksen will be allowed to let his feet do the talking from now on — after the midfielder’s emotional return put a smile on the face of football. So now he wants the talk to be all about how his fellow Dane can help keep the Bees in the Premier League. Frank said: “I completely understand the circumstances which make Christian coming back to football a really big event. “But now he has played his first game, he really wants to just speak about football and less about what happened in June....
I REMEMBER running down the wing at DC United when I first joined the club in 2006 and I heard an unusual roar at the other end of the pitch.  Whenever that happened in England it tended to be that a fight had broken out in the crowd.  5Steve Guppy (left) joined Nashville SC as assistant coach in 2020Credit: Getty 5The ex-Celtic star joined Martin O'Neill's coaching staff at the Republic of Ireland in 2014Credit: Sportsfile - Subscription 5Guppy has played for the likes of Celtic, Leicester and WycombeCredit: PA:Press Association When I looked up it wasn’t a scrap but a giant teddy bear mascot catapulting sweets into the stands. The owner of Romanian side Steaua Bucharest has sensationally announced the club will ban all players vaccinated against Covid-19 from playing for them. Mr Gigi Becali - a Romanian businessman and politician - said he is not allowing vaccinated players to play anymore because they are 'powerless'. Becali went on to claim that people who are vaccinated against the virus die in hospitals, as opposed to those who have refused the jabs. He also claimed players at Romanian rivals CFR Cluj and Rapid Bucuresti were struggling as a result of taking the vaccine, singling out 36-year-old winger Ciprian Deac. 'You're going to laugh, but I might be right. Those vaccinated lose their strength. That's something scientific,' he said according to Romanian journalist Emanuel Rosu. 'Haven't you seen it at CFR? With Rapid, the players seemed to be fainting. They slept on the ground. All vaccinated people lose their strength! 'I also see mine, the vaccinated ones. It doesn't affect some, but it does affect those who are older. Haven't you seen [Ciprian] Deac? There is no more storm.' Gigi Becali has sensationally...
