(CNN)In ending America's longest war, President Joe Biden did something popular. It was never going to help him politically. That was true before damaging images of chaos and desperation filled American television screens last week. The reason is that public opinion about the Afghanistan conflict, as with most overseas events and issues, remains ill-defined and loosely held.Even after 20 years, the conflict that ended with the lightning Taliban takeover represents a distant blur for most Americans. Only a small sliver of the US population has a personal connection to the war through service in the all-volunteer military. Its duration through years of diminishing troop levels and casualties led much of the public to tune the story out.Pollsters who have tracked the subject describe opinions no firmer than jello. Asked whether the American military should stay or leave, majorities say leave. Asked whether the military should leave or stay to continue counterterrorism operations, majorities say stay.Either way, voters have not counted Afghanistan among their top-priority concerns. Survey research on foreign policy, observed Republican pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson, "is always very fluid."Read MoreThat...

ANDERSON could have been the world's best player if it wasn't for his love of McDonald's. He spent eight seasons at Old Trafford and won the Premier League four times within that period. But the Brazilian struggled with his weight and physique throughout his career. In his new joint autobiography with twin brother Fabio, ex-United full-back Rafael said: “We could be on the team coach and pass the services on the motorway and Anderson would jump up impulsively and yell 'McDonald's, McDonald's'. “The guy was crazy, but I love him. “Give him a football and he would just play...
CNN has been slammed over its 'softball' town hall with Joe Biden after Anderson Cooper asked what it was like to live in the White House but failed to hold the president accountable when he falsely said there was no vaccine when he came into office.  The 75-minute town hall hosted by CNN and Cooper in Milwaukee on Tuesday night was Biden's first since becoming president.   Furious social media users have accused Cooper of only asking Biden softball questions about his COVID-19 response and a few other policies, including minimum wage, student loan debt, immigration and reopening schools.  One social media user called the town hall a 'total dumpster fire with Biden gaffes, lies, racism and overall awkwardness'.  They pointed out that Biden faced almost no interruption from Cooper while answering the questions put to him. There was also minimal follow-up on his responses.    The 75-minute town hall hosted by CNN's Anderson Cooper in Milwaukee on Tuesday night was Joe Biden's first since becoming president None of the audience members who were called on to ask Biden questions were...
A Detroit woman died of COVID-19 after giving birth to her son without ever being able to hold her newborn baby. Erika Becerra became ill with the coronavirus when she was 8 months pregnant, despite following "every rule in the book" on COVID-19 safety, her brother Michael Avilez told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Tuesday. Beccera was initially admitted to the hospital in November after having a hard time breathing. After a few days without any signs of recovery, doctors decided to induce her labor. Beccera gave birth to a healthy baby, but was immediately whisked away to be intubated. She passed away three weeks later on Dec. 3, leaving behind her newborn son, a young daughter and her husband. "Right after she gave birth to her son, they put her on a tube because her body wasn't retaining oxygen anymore and after that she wasn't able to meet her newborn baby," Avilez said. "The doctors decided to induce her labor because she wasn't getting any better," says Michael Avilez of his sister Erika, who died from Covid-19 after giving birth."They...

UFC President Dana White spoke to the media following UFC Vegas 12 and expressed his views on former champion Anderson Silva. ‘The Spider’ was TKOed by Uriah Hall in the main event in what was said to be his last UFC fight. Per White, there is no room for negotiation on this fact. He confirmed to reporters that this would be the final time he would compete in the company. Although the fight was competitive, with Silva winning the first round, the 45-year-old just wasn’t able to cut it. He was dropped by ‘Prime Time’ at the end of the third round and subsequently finished in the fourth. Dana White goes in on Anderson Silva The long-time boss of the UFC wasn’t too pleased about Silva’s performance and about the fight as a whole. However, before speaking on the fight, White chimed in on the fact that he made a mistake by allowing Anderson to compete. “We had a deal. When he signs this contract that this will be his last fight. This week he came out in an...
Actor Anthony Anderson played it angry, Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel played it nervous and demure — and it made for one of the more noteworthy moments of 72nd annual awards show Sunday night. What are the details? Anderson — star of the sitcom "Black-ish" — walked onstage to present an award and launched into a monologue that Kimmel jokingly indicated wasn't what they'd rehearsed. Anderson cut off Kimmel and forged ahead. "We have a record number of black Emmy nominees this year, which is great," Anderson said. Reacting to Kimmel's silence, Anderson quipped to the host, "This is the part where the white people start to applaud." Kimmel obliged — but that wasn't quite good enough. "And nod," Anderson added. Kimmel did as ordered. "These Emmys would have been NBA All-Star Weekend and Wakanda all wrapped into one. This was supposed to be the blackest Emmys ever. Y'all wouldn't have been able to handle how black it was gonna be," Anderson said before an empty Staples Center. "But because of...
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and CNN host Anderson Cooper screamed at each other for over 20 minutes in a bizarre, heated interview over Lindell’s connections to an unproven coronavirus therapeutic he has been pushing to President Donald Trump, Tuesday. The interview quickly deteriorated after Cooper opened by asking Lindell if it’s “morally right” to push the unproven therapeutic he has financial ties to, and questioned, “How do you sleep at night?!” “How are you different than a snake oil salesman?!” asked Cooper later on. “You have no medical background. There’s no evidence of the substance. It hasn’t been tested in animals or humans.” “I think my platform stands by itself. The platform that God gave me of integrity and trust,” declared Lindell. “I would not go all in on something to help people if it wasn’t true.” “If it wasn’t true you wouldn’t do it?” Anderson questioned. Lindell replied, “Absolutely I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t do anything if it wasn’t truthful, if I didn’t do my due diligence. Just like I did my due diligence when I met...
