BOSTON (CBS) — Jayson Tatum made it a point to call Wednesday night’s Game 2 win over the Nets a “humongous team effort,” and then rattled off everyone who hit the floor in the victory. Every Celtic that played had their fingerprints on the victory, giving Boston a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard all come up big late in the game, as the Celtics put the finishing touches on their comeback win. But that comeback never would have happened if Boston wasn’t able to stay afloat in the first quarter while Tatum and Brown struggled. Brooklyn took a 17-point lead in the second, but that lead could have easily been closer to 25 had someone not picked up the slack. That someone was Grant Williams. By Matthew Geagan, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — If anything was apparent after the great disaster of 2021, it was that the Celtics needed a fresh young voice to lead the way from the bench. They have found that fresh young voice in Ime Udoka. READ MORE: Celtics Reportedly Set To Hire Ime Udoka As Teams New Head Coach Brad Stevens continued his busy first month as Celtics president of basketball ops., reportedly deciding on Udoka as his replacement on the Boston bench. Stevens did a fairly solid job in his seven seasons as head coach of the Celtics, but even he admitted that he was no longer the best man for the job after a disappointing 2021 season. Whether he’s the best man for his new job remains to be seen, but he’s done pretty well since taking over just hours after Boston was dispatched in the first round of the playoffs by the Nets. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Jayson Tatum scored 32 points, including a key 3-pointer in the final moments, and the Boston Celtics held off the Portland Trail Blazers 116-115 on Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to four straight games. Jaylen Brown added 24 points and Kemba Walker had 21 for Boston, winners of six of their last seven games. Damian Lillard had 28 points and 10 assists, and Carmelo Anthony had 25 points off the bench for Portland. JJ Redick is bound to be on the move soon, with the Nets, 76ers and Celtics all interested. It’s unknown what the New Orleans Pelicans asking price is for one of the best three-point shooters in the game, but draft capital should be expected in any return. Redick has been a DNP for the past several games in anticipation of a move, so expect these talks to wrap up pretty quickly. Sources: The Pelicans are focusing on northeast teams — 76ers, Nets, Celtics — as potential trade destination for 15-year veteran JJ Redick. Details: https://t.co/vqZWaVlKXA — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) January 31, 2021 All three teams have a need for more shooting. The 76ers, for one, are finally spacing the floor around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Adding Redick to a group of shooters that includes Tobias Harris, Danny Green and Seth Curry would only make the team with the best record in the East better.Redick is a Brooklyn native. In a furious back-and-forth game full of clutch performances, Bam Adebayo made himself the hero with an epic defensive play to save Game 1.Working on a game story is a weird, unsettling task. The job is to braid together the most meaningful threads of a basketball game into a single narrative retelling. But the relative importance of each of those threads changes in real-time. That strategic advantage that defined the first quarter has disappeared by the third, with some other variable rising to assert its dominance. The final seconds of a game can determine the outcome and, in doing so, reframe everything that came before them. For the final five minutes of the fourth quarter and the brief span of overtime in Game 1, the Celtics and Heat took turns holding leads, momentum and narrative primacy. Each offered forth their own heroes, bidding to write their own endings to this minor legend. Kemba Walker gave the Celtics a five-point lead with an absurd, falling finish in the lane and just over a minute left. Seven seconds later, Tyler Herro closed...
For nearly a decade, Kemba Walker was the Hornets’ primary source of offense. He couldn’t rely on Al Jefferson, Courtney Lee or Nic Batum to help him out as opposing defenses swarmed him all over the floor. He never uttered a negative word, despite having every reason to complain about the front office’s failures in roster construction. In Tuesday’s Eastern Conference semifinal matchup between the Raptors and Celtics, Walker did not look like himself. Through three quarters, the four-time All-Star guard had six points on 2-of-14 shooting, including seven misses from beyond the arc. It’s the type of game Walker’s Hornets would have lost before the final period even began. Now, it’s fine if Walker has a bad stretch. Or a bad half. Or even a bad 36 minutes. MORE: Marcus Smart just won Flop of the Year His teammates have been providing plenty of support all season long, and they did it again in Boston’s Game 2 victory over Toronto, which gave the Celtics a 2-0 series lead over the defending champs. Jayson Tatum scored a game-high 34...

Joel Embiid again ensured scoring (30 points, with 10 rebounds, 3 interceptions and 2 blocks), and the other 4 holders also crossed the 10 point mark (20 points for Tobias Harris, 14 for Josh Richardson and Shake Milton , 12 for Al Horford), but it was not enough. Brad Stevens’ formation will likely challenge the defending champions Raptors, who lead 3-0 to the Nets. Read also:All NBA newsThe Bucks take the lead...
By Matthew Geagan, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — Monday night’s Game 1 win over the 76ers probably won’t go down as one of the Celtics’ best playoff victories in the franchise’s storied history. But it could very well go down as a preview of the greatness that is to come from the team’s rising stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Jays are the future of the franchise. Everyone knows that, because it’s a tune that the Celtics and fans have been singing for the last three season. On Monday night, that song could have won a Grammy. Boston’s dynamic duo combined for 61 points and played some phenomenal defense throughout the Celtics’ 109-101 victory over Philadelphia. It’s the most combined points the Jays have had in a playoff game in their young careers. On a night like that, it’s OK to overreact a tad. Tatum led all scorers with a playoff career high 32 points, hitting 10 of his 21 attempts while adding 13 rebounds. He did most of his damage in the first half, putting up 21 points...
