Goalby was among the players who led the Tournament Players Division to break away from the PGA of America and become the PGA Tour. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus brought in the support that made it happen and Goalby was among those who initiated the change. Later, he joined Gardner Dickinson and Dan Sikes in 1980 to organize a tour for players 50 and older. The American professional golfer's nephew, Jay Haas, said: "He was never saying, 'Here’s...
Collin Morikawa was crowned the winner of The Open at Royal St George's on Sunday but has long hinted at the secret to his success - his golfer girlfriend, Katherine Zhu.  American Morikawa, 24, who has joined Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth as the only men to win The Open in the last 60 years at such a young age, credits Zhu, 25, who was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, for helping him rise to the top of his game.  The loved-up couple, who often gush about each other on social media, have been together since their college days in 2017.  After winning the 149th British Open on Sunday, Morikawa said: 'This is by far one of the best moments of my life to see everyone out here. I wouldn't be here without my family, friends, Kat, my girlfriend. They haven't been able to make the trip but they've been getting up early to watch.' American Morikawa, 24, who has joined Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth as the only men to win The Open in the last...
In the end, he did it the Phil Mickelson way. He did it with birdies and bogeys and by holing a bunker shot. Amidst a cacophonous scene of joyous, unconfined emotion at the 103rd USPGA Championship, he took his brilliant career to another level, tearing up the record books and making us rethink convention. This was the 456th major championship stretching all the way back to 1860, and now we have the first winner over the age of 50. It was his sixth major triumph, eight years after his last one at the 2013 Open, and it takes him alongside Sir Nick Faldo on the all-time list of legends. He did it by destroying Brooks Koepka, the best major golfer of the last decade. He did it with meditation and chewing gun and a pair of aviator shades that couldn't hide the steel. Phil Mickelson became oldest ever major winner by winning the US PGA Championships The 50-year-old stole the show with a stunning victory at Kiawah Island for first title since 2013 Mickelson celebrates at the...

Matsuyama finished the April 2021 tournament with a total of 10-under par, defeating American runner-up Will Zalatoris. He later celebrated on the green with caddie Shota Hayafuji. “I’m really happy that I played well for them,” Matsuyama continued of his family. In August 2017, Matsuyama shocked the media after revealing he and wife Mei had secretly wed in January of that year. The couple had also welcomed their baby girl in...

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - AUGUST 07: Brooks Koepka of the United States plays his shot from the 15th tee during the second round of the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park on August 07, 2020 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) Brooks Koepka is lurking on the leaderboard going into the third round of the PGA Championship Brooks Koepka may be looking up at Haotong Li on the scoreboard at the PGA Championship, but his biggest opponent this weekend will be the burden of history. Koepka finds himself two shots back going into Saturday’s third round at TPC Harding Park and in prime position to join Walter Hagen as the only players to pull off a PGA Championship three-peat. The two-time defending champion shot two-under 68 in the second round and sits at six-under for the tournament, part of a six-way tie for second chasing Li. But it’s Koepka who, among that group, has the biggest expectations and the biggest chance to win. His record in major championships over the last three years is unassailable. He’s...
Ezra Shaw/Getty Images Arguably the biggest sporting event since the start of the coronavirus pandemic gets underway Thursday — as pro golf contests one of its four majors, the PGA Championship, at Harding Park in San Francisco. Tiger Woods is back — teeing it up for only the second time since the virus halted the golf season. In his return, at Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament three weeks ago, he finished in a modest 40th place tie, posting +6 for the four rounds at Muirfield Village. But Woods is already off to a solid start at Harding Park. As of this writing, the 15-time major champion is -1 through 10 holes, putting him just outside the top 20. The lead currently stands at -5, and is shared by Martin Kaymer and Zach Johnson. Kaymer, the 2010 PGA Champion, and Johnson, a two-time major winner, have both struggled to replicate that form in recent years. Others in the early mix include 2015 PGA Champion Jason Day at -4, and Tony Finau at -3. And also at -3 is two-time defending PGA...
(CBS4)– Mike Weir has climbed golf’s tallest mountain. Back in 2003, Weir became the first Canadian born player to win a major. He won The Masters by defeating Len Mattiace in a playoff. “It’s been a while so it’s hard to remember that but it’s obviously what you dream of,” said Weir. (credit: CBS) But that was 17 years ago. A lot has changed since then. The 50-year-old now sports glasses and no longer plays on the PGA Tour. He’s playing the role of elder statesman on the Korn Ferry Tour. “I enjoy playing them and I hope that they enjoy playing with me,” Weir said. Make no mistake about it, the Korn Ferry Tour is not the PGA Tour. So the question is, why is a golfer as accomplished as Weir still grinding away in golf’s minor leagues against players half his age? (credit: CBS) “This game can humble you quickly and you can’t carry your ego with you when you play this game,” said Weir who once beat Tiger Woods in a singles...
