(CNN)President Joe Biden on Tuesday is gearing up to blast Republicans and Russia's war in Ukraine for troubling economic news as he tries to shift focus away from mounting worries that are threatening his party in this year's elections. The President's speech at the White House comes as the administration is on the defensive over the economy. The country is facing the worst inflation in 40 years and a CNN poll conducted by SSRS showed fewer than a third of Americans think his party's economic visions aligns with their own. Gas prices have also jumped to fresh record highs, with AAA reporting on Tuesday that the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is at $4.37 -- a 17-cent spike in the past week. Just last week, the Federal Reserve recently announced it was taking aggressive action to lower inflation and is raising interest rates by a half-percentage point -- something it hasn't done in 22 years. The administration has attempted to pin the blame for rising gas prices and economic uncertainty on Russian President Vladimir Putin and...
When Roman Abramovich first laid eyes on Chateau de la Croe it bore little resemblance to the palatial mansion it is today. After three decades of abandonment following a fire in 1970 that had reduced the once-magnificent Riviera villa to a burnt-out shell, its scorched exterior was beyond dilapidated. Many of the trees that surrounded it had been lost to the flames, and the chateau’s once manicured lawns were parched and overgrown. Inside, rooms that had echoed to the repartee of kings, aristocrats and statesmen were littered with the detritus of the squatters who had come and gone in the intervening years. Last week, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich's property was seized by the French government But the Russian oligarch knew the house had a grand pedigree, with its former occupants including Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson, and he had the vision — and cash — to see how it could be returned to its former glory. Abramovich duly parted with the £15 million asking price for the chateau, its 18 acres of grounds and view of the Mediterranean. The permit...

'We have to be united and we certainly are. 'But Putin's brutality and what he's doing, and his troops are doing, in Ukraine is just inhumane.'   A day earlier Biden went further, accusing Putin of war crimes just after he unveiled a fresh package of military aid - including 100 drones, 9,000 anti-armor, 800 Stinger anti-aircraft systems. But he remains under pressure to do more to prop up the government on Volodymr Zelensky. President Joe Biden met virtually with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin on Thursday to mark St Patrick's Day. Dramatic video captured cars and semi-trucks strewn across a highway in eastern Kentucky after a heavy snowstorm led to a 75-car pile-up on the icy and slick road. Images shared on Twitter showed cars T-boned and partially buried in the snow along Interstate 64 between Winchester and Mount Sterling.  The multi-vehicle chaos comes as the National Weather Service placed 100 million Americans under weather alerts from winter storm systems moving across the country in the following days. Thursday's storm blanketed parts of the South with quick-falling snow, freezing rain and sleet as the system tracked a path through Appalachia toward the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.  Another snow system is expected to move from the Pacific Northwest into the Rockies through Friday, while icy conditions will move from the Mid-South into the Northeast.  In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams is preparing to face his first snowstorm in office,  after the NWS said a snow system would bring between three to six inches of snow to the Big Apple on Friday.  Authorities in Kentucky responded to a 50-car pile-up caused by icy and...
A juror who helped convict a Texas trucker for a deadly Colorado crash says his 110-jail sentence is 'not right,' as a petition for clemency surpasses 4.5 million signatures. Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, 26, was driving a semi-truck on April 25, 2019, along Interstate 70 in Lakewood, Colorado, when he slammed into two dozen vehicles - including four other transports stuck in rush-hour traffic.  The impact caused a fireball explosion that incinerated cars and trucks, killing four people. He was sentenced last week on 27 criminal charges and his harsh sentence drew criticism among millions of people - including a juror who found him guilty.  'I cried my eyes out,' the juror, who remained anonymous, told FOX31 regarding the sentence given to Aguilera-Mederos. The juror called the sentence '100-fold of what it should have been' and said that while the trucker was responsible for the crash, Judge A. Bruce Jones should have given him a 'more suitable sentence.'   Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, 26, was driving a semi-truck on April 25, 2019, along Interstate 70 in Lakewood, Colorado, when he slammed into two dozen vehicles -...
Travis Scott has asked a judge to dismiss at least one civil lawsuit brought against him after 10 people were killed and hundreds injured at his chaotic Astroworld concert last month.  The Sicko Mode rapper filed legal documents Monday requesting that a suit from festival attendee Jessie Garcia filed against him and several of his businesses be dismissed with prejudice.  Scott issued a 'general denial' to all the allegations in Garcia's suit, TMZ reported. Sources close to the star say he is planning to issue a similar response to the dozens of cases, worth billions of dollars, that have been filed against him in wake of the tragedy.  The move comes just one week after a motion was filed to consolidate the suits into one 'multi-district litigation'. The court has yet to rule on that request. Two longtime Democratic congressmen announced Monday they will not seek re-election next year, putting the pressure on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to keep control of the House in her party's hands.  Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Doyle and North Carolina Congressman David Price will retire.  The two men each have more than 20 years experience on Capitol Hill.  'While it is time for me to retire, it is no time to flag in our efforts to secure a 'more perfect union' and to protect and expand our democracy. I am deeply grateful to the people of the Fourth District for making my service possible and for what we have been able to achieve together. And I promise, in the fifteen months remaining and beyond, to continue fighting for the just and inclusive country we believe in,' Price said in a statement. 'I believe the time had come to pass the torch to the next generation,' Doyle said. 'This was not an easy decision and I spent the most of this year going back and forth.'  Price first won election in 1996. Doyle was...
President Joe Biden signed an executive order Friday that ordered a review of the classified documents related to the 9/11 terror attacks - with the promise of releasing more information to the public.    Biden had been told by nearly 1,800 Americans impacted by the terror attacks last month - including victims' family members, first responders and survivors - not to come to any of the 20th anniversary events unless he declassified documents that potentially show Saudi government links to the September 11, 2001 hijackers.  The order makes no mention of Saudi Arabia.   'When I ran for president, I made a commitment to ensuring transparency regarding the declassification of documents on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America,' Biden said in a statement. 'As we approach the 20th anniversary of that tragic day, I am honoring that commitment.'  'Today, I signed an executive order directing the Department of Justice and other relevant agencies to oversee a declassification review of documents related to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's September 11th investigations. The executive order requires the Attorney General to release the declassified documents...
Fox News host Neil Cavuto came to the defense of Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday, asking why he’s become so “vilified.” Fauci went off on Senator Rand Paul during a Tuesday Senate hearing, after the Kentucky Republican accused him of lying to Congress about the U.S. funding gain of function research in China. Fauci said, “Senator Paul, you do not know what you’re talking about, quite frankly, and I want to say that officially. You do not know what you’re talking about!” Cavuto spoke with Dr. Bob Lahita hours later and said the hearing “turned into a circus.” “But this pile-on on Dr. Fauci,” the Fox host said, “what he knew, when he knew it, whether he had sinister plans… I thought he was thinking in real time, didn’t have a handle on stuff, was following it as you were at the time. Do you think this pile-on is fair?” Lahita said he doesn’t, calling Fauci a “very professional” and “very ethical” person. Cavuto went on to say this: He has been vilified to the point that you’d think he...
A mother has revealed how she left her husband after growing tired of his revolting and irresponsible behaviour that eventually led to their trusted cleaner quitting on the spot.  The Australian mother, who has a son, shared an anonymous post on parenting website Kidspot that outlined the disgusting and even dangerous behaviour that led her to leave her ex-husband, who she said was anything but a hands-on father.  'His attitude was the death knell for our marriage (a husband who refuses to let his wife sleep in past 5am one morning a week is not remotely attractive) but there were so many incidents along the way,' she wrote.  'Leaving a packet of cigarettes on the floor for our child to munch on. The companies, Futu and Tiger Brokers, disclosed during earnings calls last month they are applying for licenses in Singapore and the U.S. that would allow local customers to trade digital currencies. The move comes as cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin have climbed back into the spotlight in recent months, while Chinese regulators have increased their efforts to limit speculation in the market. In the last few weeks, authorities issued new warnings against digital currency trading and a crackdown on bitcoin mining — an energy-heavy computing process that allows participants to earn bitcoin. But in the financial trading world, demand for cryptocurrencies is high as bitcoin's price surged to record levels above $60,000, before dropping sharply to around $35,000. Yankees: Injuries beginning to pile up in the worst way – Stanton, Hicks update Alexander Wilson May 15, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Yankees might have extracted a victory against Baltimore on Friday, but the injuries are starting to pile up at a serious rate. Winning 5-4, the Yankees just barely managed to score enough runs after falling to Tampa on Thursday. Starting pitcher Corey Kluber lasted 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits at four earned runs. It wasn’t his most productive outing, but the bullpen got the job done over the last 3.0 innings, allowing just two hits and zero runs. Offensively, Aaron Judge had a solid performance, recording two hits and two runs in the win. Thanks to Gio Urshela, who had a pinch-hit three-run home run in the 7th inning, the Bombers squeezed out a win. Despite the positive outcome, the Yankees are now dealing with a variety of injuries they will have to supplement in the coming days. Slugger Giancarlo Stanton and starting outfielder Aaron Hicks are battling individual...
