Eat all of your meals in a 12-hour window if you want to live longer, scientists say. Restricting the food intake of mice to the most active hours of their day extended their lifespans by a third. Whereas solely restricting calories only helped them live for 10 per cent longer, on average. It suggests the combination of sticking to a low-calorie diet and fasting is optimal for longevity. Researchers claimed the findings show if you are dieting but eating late at night then you are not getting 'the full benefits'. Eating within a strict time window, known as intermittent fasting diet, has become one of the hottest fitness fads in recent years. A-listers such as Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman are said to be followers of intermittent fasting. MARK Zuckerberg's Meta has announced that it will take a large amount of the earnings made in its Horizon Worlds metaverse. A staggering 47.5% of sales made in Horizon Worlds will go to Meta and the rest to the user. 1Wendy’s launched a virtual fast-food restaurant in Horizon Worlds earlier this monthCredit: The Wendy’s Company According to CNBC, Meta confirmed these plans to take almost a 50% cut from users. There's a 30% hardware platform fee if you're selling virtual assets through the Meta Quest Store. Then, there's a 17.5% fee on top of this for sales made in Horizon Worlds. ALBANY (WABC) -- New York is set to rely on an influx of federal funds and higher-than-expected tax revenues to balance a $220 billion, one-year state budget, which lawmakers passed Saturday morning.Disagreements over policy issues held up passage of the spending plan over a week past an April 1 deadline. The budget has often served over the decades as a vehicle for passing major policy legislation, and this year is being used to tackle issues expected to resonate with voters during an election year. The budget will head to Gov. Kathy Hochul's desk for her expected signature. It's set to boost pay for health care and home care workers, shave 16 cents off the cost of a gallon of gas through December and help New Yorkers with unpaid rent and utility bills. Some Democrats voted against parts of the spending plan, in part for cracking down on people with repeated low-level offenses. Those lawmakers also called for more spending on home care workers rather than spending an eventual $850 million supporting a new $1.4 billion stadium for the Buffalo Bills, which is...
Drone footage of the devastation in Mariupol. Mariupol should have been taken on the first day of the war. Situated in Ukraine’s far southeastern corner, distant from other major urban centers and supply lines, directly south of the rebel-occupied Donbas separatist region, mostly Russian speaking, and just across the Azov Sea from Russia itself, it never should’ve been competitive.  Day 1 of the war, Mariupol should’ve been swallowed up in that first wave. Yet after six weeks of full blockade and unimaginable devastation, Mariupol continues to resist. How is that possible? We won’t know the full story until after the war, but what we know (and can guess at) paints an incredible picture.  The city was defended by two main forces. The first was Ukrainian marines. But the more (in)famous was the Azov Battalion, a paramilitary force of far-right extremist neo-Nazis who were founded in 2014. What else happened in 2014? Russia’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula and the start of the separatist war in Eastern Ukraine. In fact, it was the Azov Battalion that retook Mariupol after pro-Russian forces (and...
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — Minnesota Senate Republicans are poised to pass a nearly $9 billion proposal, which would provide a tax cut to all taxpayers in the state. Republicans say the projected $9 billion budget surplus is a sign the state is taking too much from Minnesotans and they want taxpayers to see a reduction every paycheck, not in tax rebates. READ MORE: Minnesota Insulin Safety Net Funds $6M In Supplies In 2021Based on Minnesota’s tax structure, everyone who pays taxes would get a cut. The first-tier income tax rate would slash by nearly half from 5.35% to 2.8%. Republicans say this impacts 2.4 million filers in Minnesota. Their plan would also eliminate taxes on all social security benefits. SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) — El Salvador’s president threatened Tuesday to stop providing food for imprisoned members of street gangs following a wave of killings. Speaking at a graduation ceremony for new police officers and soldiers, President Nayib Bukele said that if the gangs “unleash a wave of crimes, we are going to cut off food in the prisons.” “There are rumors that they (gangs) want to start taking revenge on random, honest people,” Bukele said. “If they do that, there won’t even be one meal in prisons. I swear to God they won’t eat a grain of rice, and let’s see how long they last.” “They should stay calm and let themselves be arrested; at least on the inside they will continue to live and have two meals a day,” Bukele said. Previously, Bukele had ordered food for gang members held in Salvadoran prisons be reduced to two meals per day, seized inmates’ mattresses and posted a video of prisoners being frog-marched through corridors and down stairs. Following a wave of homicides in late March, Bukele...
THE secret to a winning, home-cooked meal is in the seasoning. But a woman named Sandra Williamson said we’re applying our seasoning all wrong. Rather than shake the bottle of seasoning and leave a mess of tiny crumbs all over the counter, all you have to do is twist the plastic covering from side to side. The spinning motion smoothly releases the powder and keeps it controlled. Sandra’s clip instantly went viral, receiving 1.7 million views and thousands of comments. LAUNDRY is probably one of the most tedious chores as you can waste an entire day if you have multiple loads. Fret no more, because a home expert has revealed how adding a clean, white towel to your dryer will cut the cycle short. 3A home expert has revealed she uses a white towel to cut back on drying timeCredit: TikTok/carolina.mccauley 3The dry towel will absorb the moisture, which will cut back on the drying timeCredit: TikTok/carolina.mccauley Carolina Mccauley, who has become a cleaning authority on social media, revealed this hack makes her "clean smarter and not harder" in her most recent video. Okay, let’s be fair about this. You could argue that the U.S. had a legitimate interest in propping up global oil prices during the COVID-caused 2020 recession in order to aid domestic producers. I figured I’d be fair at the outset because MAGAs never are, particularly when it comes to this issue. They seem to think gas prices are high right now because Joe Biden decided to press the big red “Evil” button on the Resolute Desk, ensuring that gas became prohibitively expensive, baby’s blood smoothies were sold at cost at every Jamba Juice, and something-something George Soros. Couldn’t have anything to do with a global economic recovery that sent prices soaring pretty much across the board worldwide. Nah. Must be Biden and his blackhearted anti-American schemes. After all, this would have never happened under Trump! Possibly because half the country would have put themselves in suspended-animation pods for four years had he won, seriously depressing energy demand—as well as any marginally cogent person who wasn’t in a suspended-animation pod. Of course, no one likes high gas prices, but the main reason they were so...
Getty Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner celebrates a touchdown during a December 2019 game. While the Baltimore Ravens are thought to be filling positions of need in free agency, general manager Eric DeCosta might not be able to pass up the opportunity to land an All-Pro linebacker. With the Seattle Seahawks releasing Bobby Wagner on March 8 following the Russell Wilson trade, per Heavy’s DJ Siddiqi, the Ravens will now have an opportunity to bolster their front seven by signing one of the best inside linebackers in recent league history. The Ravens were even listed as a top destination for Wagner shortly after he was cut, with Bleacher Report’s Doric Sam arguing that, despite other free agent targets, Wagner should jump to the top of Baltimore’s list. WORKING in Britain for the Kremlin or its stooges was always morally dubious at best. Now it is treacherous and repugnant. So we have no problem with a proposed legal clamp on lawyers, PR firms or bean counters working for dodgy oligarchs with proven Kremlin links. 4Our sanctions must deepen to cause grief to his cronies and, ultimately, PutinCredit: Getty As Putin ramps up his hideous assault on Ukraine, so our sanctions must deepen to cause grief to his cronies and, ultimately, him. A new type of drive-thru scanner is to be installed at the busiest crossings at the United States' southern border in an effort to clamp down on the amount of drugs flowing into the country. Known as 'multi-energy portals', and working along the same lines as X-rays, the cargo compartments of trucks will be zapped with high-energy waves allowing Customs & Border officials to see right inside. A lower level of high-energy wave will be used to screen the cab in which the driver sits and allow them to stay inside while an inspection is carried out by the scanner.  It will speed up border crossing times markedly while also catching more of the illegal drugs such and fentanyl coming across the border from Mexico.  Currently, just one truck in 20 is scanned for drugs, with US officials pressed into action after drug deaths rocketed to 100,000 a year, many as the result of drugs smuggled from the south.  'Multi-energy portals' will zap the cargo areas with high-energy waves, but use safer low-energy screening for the cab, allowing the drivers...
Getty Rob Pelinka, Lakers GM The NBA trade deadline came and went once again without a move from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers can still be active in the buyout market and one former starter could be on Los Angeles’ short list. According to The Athletic’s Bill Oram, the Lakers explored making a trade with the Celtics for former starting point guard Dennis Schröder. The trade talks fell through and the veteran was later dealt to the Rockets. The Lakers may still have a chance to add the guard as Schroder is a potential buyout candidate. Despite opting not to trade for Schroder, The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported the team would consider signing the guard if he receives a buyout and becomes a free agent. “The Lakers explored the possibility of trading for Schröder at the trade deadline, as The Athletic’s Bill Oram reported,” Buha explained on February 11. “While there remains some division internally among the Lakers’ decision-makers regarding Schröder after his uncomfortable departure last summer, there is interest in bringing him back as...
A virtual, company-wide meeting meant to introduce new Peloton CEO Barry McCarthy descended into chaos on Wednesday as some of the 2,800 employees who were abruptly laid off the day before took out their frustrations in the chat box. 'I'm selling all my Peloton apparel to pay my bills!!!,' one person wrote. On Tuesday, the company announced it was replacing CEO and co-founder John Foley and slashing 2,800 jobs in a desperate bid to cut costs and revive the struggling exercise company. Some of the laid off employees - who make up 20 percent of global corporate staff - reportedly learned they were fired when they found their access to the company's Slack channel switched off Tuesday morning. In a memo, Foley said that the axed employees would get 12 months of free fitness classes as part of their severance packages, a value of about $468. 'This is awfully tone deaf,' wrote one user who sneaked into Wednesday's meeting. 'The company messed up by allowing people who were fired into this chat,' another user said.
