BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns general manager Andrew Berry understands Baker Mayfield’s hurt feelings. He doesn’t agree with his assertion the team misled the quarterback, who is currently in limbo. Mayfield recently said he felt “disrespected 100%” by the Browns, who told him they expected him to return as their starter next season before pursuing and signing Deshaun Watson to a record-setting, $230 million contract. “I was told one thing and they completely did another,” Mayfield said on a podcast. On Friday, Berry addressed Mayfield’s claims, saying the team was open with the No. 1 overall pick in 2018 about its plans. “I’ve touched on this previously that we were transparent with our intentions with his reps,” Berry said. “That being said, I think we can all understand how Baker feels and sometimes things in the NFL, whether it’s team-related, coach-related, player-related, they may not work out. “And Baker is a competitive and driven young man who’s had success as a quarterback and will continue to have success as a quarterback. So definitely understand it.” Mayfield is still with the...
A view of a meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Foreign Ministers gather at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, March 4, 2022.Olivier Douliery | Reuters The heads of state representing NATO's 30 member countries are discussing meeting in person in Brussels next week as Russia's invasion of Ukraine reaches the alliance's doorstep with missiles fired just miles from the border of Poland, according to U.S. and foreign officials. The meeting, which would be labeled "extraordinary" by the alliance since it falls outside regularly scheduled engagements, would dovetail with the White House's tentative plans for President Joe Biden to travel to Europe. President Biden's travel and the NATO meeting have yet to be finalized, these officials said, asking not to be named because the plans aren't yet set. The meeting would serve as a high-level show of force for NATO countries, which have forged a stronger bond in response to Russia's unprovoked attack on neighboring Ukraine. The U.S. has vowed to defend the entirety of the alliance, even in the case of accidental fire. "The United...

While domestic COVID-19 restrictions will almost entirely disappear on Feb. 1, there will still likely be some protocols for international travelers. "Denmark intends however to keep some border measures in place for another four weeks, including tests and/or quarantine depending on travelers' immunity status," the Daily Mail reported. "According to Health Minister Magnus Heunicke, Denmark's recent cases of COVID were more than 46,000 daily on average; however, only 40 people are in hospital intensive care units," according to Newsweek. "We continue with a strong epidemic surveillance," Heunicke declared. "Then we ... can react quickly if necessary." Frederiksen added, "It may seem strange that we want to remove restrictions given the high infection rates. But fewer people become seriously ill." "The Danish Health Authority said that 35 percent of those in hospital with Covid were actually in hospital for another diagnosis," The Local Denmark reported. Other European nations are also significantly curbing their COVID-19 restrictions during the current Omicron wave. Starting on Thursday, England halted its mask mandate – including in classrooms. GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said he plans to interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars about their head coaching vacancy next week. The Packers (13-3) have clinched the NFC’s No. 1 seed and lone first-round playoff bye, so they won’t be playing when the postseason begins next week. “I owed it to this organization, all these players, we wanted to wrap up that No. 1 seed,” Hackett said Thursday. “That was so important to do. And it’s absolutely an honor to be even considered for something like this. So we’re going to do it during the bye because we wrapped up that No. 1 seed. We’re really excited about that opportunity. I mean, it’s a dream for any football coach to even have an opportunity to potentially become a head coach.” Hackett, 42, was the Jaguars’ quarterbacks coach from 2015-16 and offensive coordinator from 2016-18 before getting fired in the middle of the 2018 season.
