    SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday and not coincidentally regained their penchant for the long ball. A first-inning grand slam by Wilmer Flores and two-run shots by Mauricio Dubon and Darin Ruf in the second inning staked Logan Webb to a lead and the Giants held on for a 13-7 win before a Buster Posey Day crowd of 40,113 at Oracle Park. The win improved the Giants to 15-12, with the Cardinals falling to 15-12. The 13 runs exceeded the total of 10 runs scored over 45 innings during the five-game losing streak. The grand slam was Flores’ third home run of the year, with Dubon and Ruf hitting their first home runs of the season. Dylan Carlson homered for the Cardinals.     President Joe Biden's administration has approved a significant and permanent increase in the levels of food aid available to needy families - the largest single increase in the program's history.Starting in October, average benefits for food stamps - officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP - will rise more than 25 percent above pre-pandemic levels. The increased assistance will be available indefinitely to all 42 million SNAP beneficiaries.The increase coincides with the end of a 15 percent boost in SNAP benefits that was ordered as a pandemic protection measure.
