After opening fire at Rivera and Mora, McNeil was shot in the head and arm by a third officer responding to the call, Sumit Sulan. A terrifying arsenal of weapons was confiscated during ongoing riots and protests across the US Wednesday — including a loaded AR-15-style rifle and an improvised explosive device, according to officials. As protests continued for a second night in several major cities during the tense wait for election results, many appeared to come heavily armed and ready for violence amid a background of boarded-up buildings. In New York, the NYPD said officers who arrested dozens during violent anti-cop protests in the West Village also recovered a Taser, two knives and M80 firecrackers. “This is not a tool of a peaceful protest,” the force said alongside an image of a confiscated Taser with “police” written on it. But the most alarming bust came in Portland as the National Guard was called in for the first time during a riot involving at least 600 people. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office shared photos of weapons confiscated from a man who was arrested for allegedly throwing a Molotov Cocktail at officers — including a high-powered AR-15-style rifle with a full magazine of ammo. “They also...
OAKLAND — A 22-year-old Antioch man was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, related to an arrest last year where he was found with a loaded assault rifle. Jerry A. Beltram was arrested by Antioch police in March 2019, after officers spotted him in a black Mercedes C320 with no license plates at Gloucester Court in Antioch. When they tried to stop the car, it sped away. A short distance later, Beltram allegedly jumped out of the car and began to run, according to the criminal complaint. When officers eventually tracked down and arrested Beltram, they found an “AR-15-style rifle” loaded with 96 armor-piercing rounds, prosecutors said. Beltram’s federal public defender wrote in a sentencing memo that Beltram had a tumultuous upbringing, which included both parents getting in legal trouble. He spent time in juvenile hall as a youth, but connected with a local reverend and ended up acquiring a high school degree and attending college courses. He hopes to attend counseling while in federal prison, his attorney said. “In sum, Mr....

Two attorneys in St. Louis who pointed firearms at Black Lives Matter protesters had one of their guns seized by a city prosecutor who executed a search and seizure warrant on Friday. Their other gun was surrendered to police on Saturday. Personal injury attorneys Mark McCloskey and Patricia McCloskey went viral in late June after being caught on video holding what appears to be an AR-15 style rifle and an extremely small pistol, respectively. The rifle is now in the possession of city authorities. “We complied with the search warrant. They took my AR,” Mark McCloskey told local right-wing radio host Todd Starnes on Friday. “I’m absolutely surprised by this.” City of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner “sought weapons held by Mr. and Mrs. McCloskey during June 28, 2020 in defense of themselves and their home at time of the march,” according to the couple’s former attorney Albert Watkins. The since-replaced attorney turned over the lesser gun to St. Louis detectives on Saturday after conferring with his former clients and their new attorney Joel Schwartz. In comments made...
