Wisconsin's Republican Senator, Ron Johnson Few foreign world leaders—let alone any murderous dictators—have received more solicitous treatment from the Republican Party during the last five years than Vladimir Putin. Imagine if Democrats so warmly and fulsomely embraced someone who now threatens to rain destruction down on our country (Osama Bin Laden comes to mind). Or if they had gleefully sent delegations to kowtow to that person’s criminal syndicate, thugs, and cronies (on the 4th of July, no less). Or what if they, along with their media mouthpieces, sung his praises and echoed his talking points for literally years, obsequiously groveling before him and marveling at his prowess and “toughness.” Well, you could expect that the Democratic Party would be awash in shame and humiliation right about now, pilloried at every turn for its treachery. Brookings Institute fellow and author James Kirchick, writing for Politico in July 2017, accurately captured the bizarre nexus that had developed between the GOP and the Russian dictator: “In any other era, our political leaders would be aghast at the rank opportunism, moral flippancy and borderline treasonous instincts on...

LOS ANGELES — The NFL seems on the verge of a tectonic shift. Nine franchises are hiring new coaches. Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks are in limbo. Chaos can commence any second. Then there are the 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams, NFC West rivals closing in on a Super Bowl return. One could be the next champion, the next dynasty. Their race to the NFC summit finishes Sunday, with one of them winning the Halas Trophy at SoFi Stadium, where the victor returns for Super Bowl LVI two weeks later. Of course, the dynasty-forming Kansas City Chiefs might be waiting for them, in their third straight Super Bowl if they win the AFC crown against Cincinnati. Looking ahead to a Super Bowl is taboo. Reflecting on a pass Super Bowl defeat, however, is an acceptable inspiration. “It was really tough to lose that especially with the team we had,” Nick Bosa said.” Now it’s becoming extremely real that we can be there again.” The 2018 Rams and the ’19 Niners sustained Super Bowl losses,...

A video of a Florida testing line summed up the explosion of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in America this week, with hundreds lined up for testing in Miami Thursday. With cars lined up for seemingly over a mile, one Twitter user had to clarify, 'It is from today. It is not from last year.' It also comes after samples taken from sewage revealed that Omicron is now the dominant strain of Covid in Florida's Orange County. Line weren't long in just the Sunshine State: In New York City, people were lined up a long way outside testing sites as the city saw cases have reached over 3,500 the last two days.  CityMD, New York's urgent care provider that stations clinics throughout the Big Apple, said testing volume grew more than 25 percent the past two weeks, with results taking as many as three to five days to come back from their labs.   COVID cases are up 31 percent nationwide over the past two weeks, with 124,413 people testing positive for the virus. NEW YORK (AP) — The CEO of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, doesn’t try to explain why some cryptocurrencies that started purely as a joke have surged so much in price. He also doesn’t want to say if the exuberance for meme coins like Dogecoin is an indication of a dangerous bubble. But Changpeng Zhao, who goes by “CZ,” does say that it shows the power of decentralization, which has underpinned the huge growth for crypto. Led by Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies have swelled in value to more than $2.6 trillion, putting them on par with the world’s most valuable stock, Microsoft. Such fast growth is drawing in more investors, as well as gaining the attention of regulators around the world. Zhao spoke with The Associated Press after his company issued a call for more regulation of crypto markets around the world. Besides bubbles and meme coins, he talked about which cryptocurrencies he owns and his promise to donate most of his wealth. This conversation has been edited for clarity and length. Q: What’s your takeaway when cryptos...

A lot of guns and even a grenade were turned in at the event. All of the weapons that were surrendered will be checked by police and then destroyed.

Getty Alex Anzalone celebrates a 2018 interception with the Saints. The Detroit Lions have struggled with coverage at linebacker for years, but in one signing, the team hopes they have unlocked a solution that can help them keep up on defense in 2021. Ronald Martinez/Getty Images Former President George W. Bush said in an interview he believes there is “no question” about a need for police reform. “The question is, ‘What grade do you give police people?'” said in an interview with The Dispatch published on Friday. “The answer that is overall good except police departments need to learn to weed out those who don’t hold our fellow citizens in the same regard as they hold themselves, and there’s no question there needs to be police reform “But I think one of the lessons that people will learn over time is that there’s no question there needs to be police,” he added. “And so I’m, you know, I, again I’m optimistic about the country’s capacity to take on real issues, and there is a real issue in police accountability. Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley’s post-engagement celebrations continue. Earlier this week, the couple enjoyed a cozy meal at the Best Cafe and Bar in Hot Springs, Arkansas, according to an Instagram photo shared Tuesday by the eatery which showed the stars holding hands. “Our team had the opportunity to cook for @aaronrodgers12 and his crew last night. Grateful for the opportunity,” the cafe captioned a group shot that featured Rodgers, 37, and Woodley, 29. In the photo, Rodgers is seen wearing a black hoodie and a matching beanie while Woodley has on a gray coat. When reached by Page Six, the restaurant declined to comment on the couple’s visit. Meanwhile, on Monday jet-setting Rodgers and Woodley were spotted departing Mexico via private plane. In early February, Rodgers announced that he was engaged while accepting the MVP Award at this year’s NFL Honors, but didn’t name his fiancée. Carrying a 3-2 lead into the third period Tuesday night, the Blueshirts held the Sabres to just five shots, albeit recording just three shots on net themselves in the final 30:28. Defenseman Adam Fox said he believes the Rangers have played a lot smarter than they did earlier in the season, particularly when they have a lead heading into the third. Fox said he considers that to be a sign of growth, taking into account how many times they feel apart in the final 20 minutes earlier this season. “I think we didn’t cheat, we didn’t give them a lot of grade-A’s and limited their chances,” Fox said following the win...
