Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he is not in favour of Sweden and Finland joining NATO, threatening to derail their membership bids. Erdogan said the countries are 'guesthouses for terrorist organisations' such as the Kurdish PKK and supporters of Fethullah Gulen, a cleric accused of leading a coup against him in 2016, and added: 'We cannot be positive towards this.' But he did not declare outright opposition, leaving the door open to a deal. Sweden and Finland's foreign ministers say they expect to speak with their Turkish counterpart on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Berlin tomorrow. Turkish President Erdogan has said he is not in favour of Sweden and Finland being allowed to join NATO, accusing them of hosting 'terrorists' Ann Linde, Sweden's top diplomat, told news agency AFP that she would have 'the opportunity' to talk about 'a potential NATO application' at the summit. Meanwhile Finland's Pekka Haavistosaid said he hoped to 'continue our discussion' with Turkey's Mevlut Cavusoglu in the German capital. Erdogan's remarks come just a day after Finland's prime minister and president said...

Getty Head coach Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns looks on against the Denver Broncos in the second half at FirstEnergy Stadium on October 21, 2021 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images) After trading for superstar QB Deshaun Watson Friday, the Cleveland Browns have instantly become an attractive destination to pass catchers throughout the NFL, and one of the best and most embattled wide receivers in that group has already made a public pitch to join the team. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Antonio Brown hasn’t played a snap since refusing to enter a game against the New York Jets in Week 17 then running off the field and out of the league. It was the most recent in a string of tumultuous stops for Brown, who also had odd and hasty fallings out with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Las Vegas Raiders (then in Oakland) and the New England Patriots. But Brown appears to believe the fifth time could be the charm and took to social media Friday, March 18 and reeled off a series of...

A bipartisan coalition of local officials from every region of the state urged a House committee on Thursday to reverse steep recession-era cuts in road repair aid to the counties. At a hearing before the House Environment and Transportation Committee, officials from rural and suburban counties and the City of Baltimore testified that a 2009 change in a key formula has severely limited their ability to keep roads and bridges in good repair. The cuts were approved in reaction to a steep drop in revenues brought about by the Great Recession. Laura Price, a member of the Talbot County Council and president of the Maryland Association of Counties, said localities are on a “starvation diet” as a result of the lost revenues. Aid to Talbot dropped from more than $3 million to $160,000, she said. Despite a “slight increase in 2018, we’re still only receiving 20% of what we did before the cuts.” “While I may not have as many...
President Volodymyr Zelensky says he has 'cooled' on Ukrainian demands to join NATO and is open to talks on the future of Russian-occupied regions, opening the door to a possible diplomatic solution to Vladimir Putin's invasion.  Zelensky, who has become a beacon of defiance to Russian aggression since the war began almost two weeks ago, said on Monday night that it appears NATO is not willing to accept Ukraine as a member and he is not willing 'to beg on my knees'. He also said that he is 'open to dialogue' on the future of Crimea, Luhansk and Donbass - three regions occupied by Russia before the invasion which Putin wants to break away from Ukraine - but is not willing to accept 'ultimatums'. Such rhetoric, while falling short of Russian demands, does at least open up the possibility of a deal to end fighting ahead of high-level negotiations due to take place between the to sides in Turkey tomorrow. The causes of Russia's invasion of Ukraine span decades, but the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and particularly Ukraine's efforts to join that alliance, contributes heavily to the current conflict. President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that he was deploying thousands of additional troops to Europe but was not sending them into combat with Russia. The United States's refusal to get more involved in the war is primarily motivated by the relationship between NATO and the U.S., as well as adherence to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
NEWCASTLE have reportedly had a £25million bid for Diego Carlos knocked back by Sevilla as Tottenham enter the race to prise him away from Spain. Eddie Howe has made bringing the Brazilian centre-back to St James' Park a priority this month with the player keen to join the Magpies. 1Sevilla centre-back Diogo Carlos has been heavily linked with a switch to NewcastleCredit: Getty It has been claimed that the 28-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Toon. ARSENAL have reportedly had an £88million bid accepted for Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic. The only problem is the 21-year-old has already agreed to join Juventus. 1Arsenal target Vlahovic has already agreed to join Juventus, reports suggest Vlahovic is out of contract in 2023, and agreed to join Juve upon the expiry of his deal, according to Italian outlet Ok Calciomercato. It comes as a blow to Fiorentina, who would lose out on a hefty transfer fee for their star striker. Vlahovic is even reported to have agreed a 'penalty' fare with Juventus in case the deal is cancelled. Therefore it's claimed that the stand-off is causing a 'delicate situation' for his current club Fiorentina. Should Vlahovic stubbornly see out his contract and leave for free, club owner Rocco Commisso would want him benched for the ENTIRE of next season. That would see substitute striker Krzysztof Piatek promoted in his place. Kounde, who turns 23 next week, has been integral to that by helping them record six clean sheets from his ten appearances. He continues to produce top performances despite his anger over a failed move...

Lemina, 27, made 30 appearances for the relegated Cottagers last term. His one goal was a belter against Liverpool in March’s 1-0 shock win at Anfield. Lemina's price tag may prove to be an issue for the Magpies. The club's owner Mike Ashley has already been at loggerheads with the Toon Army after it was revealed he wouldn't pay more than £4m for the central midfielder. Ashley is reportedly not keen on splashing out on Lemina due to his age, according the Daily Mail. He would be open to a swap but...
