Jeff Burbank is a content development specialist at The Mob Museum in Las Vegas. He is the author of Las Vegas Babylon: True Tales of Glitter, Glamour, and Greed. Geoff Schumacher is the museum's vice president of exhibits and programs and author of Sun, Sin & Suburbia: The History of Modern Las Vegas. When mobsters bury their secrets, they expect them to stay hidden. Usually, they're right. But as Nevada's drought-ravaged Lake Mead recedes and sunlight shines on its muddy depths for the first time in decades, we may be getting a glimpse into the dark and sordid mob history of Las Vegas, which lies just 30 miles away. On May 1st, the remains of a decomposed human body stuffed inside a corroded metal barrel were discovered stuck in Lake Mead's mud. The grisly find has all the makings of a gangland hit. Police say the victim was shot in the head, execution-style, and crammed into the drum – historically a mob method for disposing of bodies. The killers transported the barrel by boat several hundred yards out into the...

The A-list couple – dubbed 'Bennifer' – are understood to be seeking a home on the outskirts of London. Sources suggest that the possible involvement of Affleck in a forthcoming Barbie movie, which is being made at Warner Bros' Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, may explain their interest in a British bolthole. Getty Dennis Schroder of the Boston Celtics guarding the Brooklyn Nets Patty Mills. Dennis Schroder has been a shining light in an otherwise murky start to the Boston Celtics season. Stepping into the starting lineup on numerous occasions, Schroder has provided the scoring and rim pressure that Boston sorely needs. However, with Jaylen Brown now working his way back to full fitness and Robert Williams also returning to the rotation, Schroder will likely find himself working his magic off the bench. Coming into the season, Schroder was widely billed as the Celtics sixth man, giving the team a punch off the bench, which was a significant point of contention for this roster during the 2020-21 NBA season. Yet, following multiple games where Schroder’s scoring has kept the team within touching distance or outright won them the game, there have been calls for him to remain in the team’s starting five long-term. The issue with Schroder moving into the Celtics starting lineup is that a back-court pairing of him and Marcus Smart provides little to no floor-spacing, nor is...

On Tuesday Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a meltdown at the tail end of his weekly press conference, having been asked about rumors that he’s a candidate for several different Power 5 head coaching jobs. “I don’t have time for that speculation. That’s a joke to me. I’ve got one of the best jobs in all of professional sports. Why would I have any interest in coaching college football?” Tomlin responded, clearly getting hot under the collar. “That will be the last time that I address (these rumors). And not only today, but moving forward. Never say never, but never, okay?” concluded Tomlin, who has been in his current job for the past 15 years. The latest Steelers news straight to your inbox! Robin Williams missed out on playing Remus Lupin. On Thursday, director Chris Columbus revealed that the late star was interested in playing the werewolf who is first introduced in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," the third book and film in the franchise. According to Columbus, Williams lost out on the role because hiring him would have broken a rule to avoid casting any American actors in an attempt to "maintain a degree of authenticity." "I had a conversation with Robin Williams, who wanted to play Lupin," Columbus told Total Film, as quoted by GamesRadar. "It was very difficult for me to say, ‘It’s all British. There’s nothing I can do.’" ROBIN WILLIAMS' DAUGHTER PLEADS WITH FANS TO STOP 'SPAMMING' HER WITH VIRAL IMPRESSION OF HER FATHER Columbus, who directed both the first and second "Harry Potter" films, is American. Mexican film director Alfonso Cuarón took on the third film, which features Lupin, played by British actor David Thewlis. The 58-year-old played the role until his final appearance in 2011. Robin Williams expressed interest in being part of...
A well-known Conservative Christian lawyer played a behind-the-scenes role in the December lawsuit filed by Republican attorneys general to overturn the 2020 presidential election. According to The New York Times, Michael P. Farris — the chief executive of the conservative Christian nonprofit advocacy group, Alliance Defending Freedom — was responsible for circulating a comprehensive draft of what became the lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) in hopes of overturning the presidential election in favor of former President Donald Trump. Per the publication: "Our Country stands at an important crossroads," the complaint filed by Mr. Paxton said in its opening argument. Those words were lifted verbatim from the draft Mr. Farris had sent, as was a subsequent passage asserting that "either the Constitution matters and must be followed, even when some officials consider it inconvenient or out of date, or it is simply a piece of parchment on display at the National Archives. We ask the Court to choose the former." After making small changes to the draft, Paxton filed the lawsuit on December 7. The...
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) — Court records suggest medical misinformation might have been the motive behind last week’s double murder in Howard County. Jeffrey Burnham of Cumberland is charged in the murders of his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Kelly Robinette, who were found shot to death Sept. 30 inside the couple’s Ellicott City home. READ MORE: Pfizer To Request Emergency Approval For Vaccines For Children Aged 12 And UnderAccording to Howard County police, Burnham traveled to his relatives’ home after killing another individual, 83-year-old Rebecca Reynolds, in Allegany County. Charging documents obtained by WJZ show Burnham’s mother told investigators her son had expressed a desire to confront his brother, a pharmacist, about administering COVID-19 vaccines. “He wanted to confront Brian about the government poisoning people with COVID vaccines,” Burnham’s mother told police. “He repeatedly stated, ‘Brian knows something!'” The Robinettes’ murders could have been prevented, according to Anjali Kataria, chief executive officer for Mytonomy, a Bethesda-based medical education company. “There are accurate sources of information and we weren’t able to get them to this individual,” Kataria told WJZ. “It’s...
Although he was infected with COVID-19 during the 2020/2021 winter and recovered from it, Florida State Sen. Manny Diaz remains unvaccinated. Diaz, an ally of Gov. Ron DeSantis, is also the top Republican shaping health care policy in the Florida Senate, and he discussed Florida's COVID-19 policies during an interview with Florida Politics. Florida Politics reporter Christine Jordan Sexton explains, "The senator, who acknowledges he hasn't gotten a COVID-19 vaccine, says he's firmly against vaccine mandates. At the urging of the governor, the (Florida State) Legislature earlier this year passed a bill that would prevent private businesses from requiring proof of vaccination from their customers. But the bill did not ban employers from requiring their employees to be vaccinated." Sexton, however, notes that unlike some other Florida Republicans, the 48-year-old Diaz "does not endorse blocking private employers from requiring vaccines." Florida currently has vaccine mandates in public schools for illnesses other than COVID-19. Sexton notes, "Republicans opposed to so-called 'vaccine passports' have faced criticism, particularly as it relates to schools where current law already requires a bevy of vaccinations. Under...
MANCHESTER UNITED have named forgotten defender Phil Jones in their Premier League squad for the 2021-22 season. The 29-year-old former England international has not featured for the Red Devils since January 2020. 3Jones is hoping to reinvigorate his career at Old TraffordCredit: Getty 3He faces stiff competition in the centre-back positionCredit: Getty But that has not stopped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from picking him in their squad for the upcoming campaign. However, Jones faces a great deal of competition in the centre-back position at Old Trafford. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are all set to remain above him in the pecking order, along with their high-profile new signing Raphael Varane. Man Utd have named 33 players in their Premier League squad, rather than 25. This is because clubs are permitted to name 25 plus a fourth keeper and any players who are under 21 years of age. As a result, United's squad includes 38-year-old keeper Lee Grant who will be expected to occupy the fourth slot behind David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton. Most read in FootballLive...
