BURNLEY, England (AP) — Everton plunged to within a point of the Premier League’s relegation zone after conceding in the 85th minute to lose 3-2 at Burnley in a wild, end-to-end match on Wednesday. Maxwel Cornet grabbed the winner for Burnley, which climbed above Watford into 18th place and within striking distance of overtaking Everton in 17th. Two penalties before halftime by Brazil forward Richarlison helped Everton recover from conceding a 12th-minute opener to Nathan Collins at a corner, which was Burnley’s first goal in five games. Jay Rodriguez made it 2-2 in the 57th before substitute Matej Vydra crossed for Cornet to sweep in Burnley’s most important goal of the season. It was a sixth straight away defeat in the league for financially stricken Everton, which has an extremely tough run of games to finish the season. Its next four opponents, for example, are Manchester United, Leicester, Liverpool and Chelsea. Frank Lampard might now by fighting for his job, having only taken over as Everton’s manager at the start of February. ___ More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright...
PREMIER League chiefs are set to pull all matches from Russian TV within the next 24 hours in response to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. They're teaming up with the Football League to axe contracts with the country's broadcasters, meaning no games will be shown there. 1The Premier League is set to pull matches from Russian TV over Putin's Ukraine warCredit: AFP Under the total blackout not even FA Cup games will be screened. English football is hugely popular in Russia and the move will come as another big blow to the Kremlin as international sanctions bite. Lawyers have given the Premier League the green light to scrap the last three months of this season's TV contract, according to the Telegraph. The deal with the Russian firm Rambler Media is worth a whopping £6 million a year to the division's clubs. Rambler is run by state-owned Sberbank, which has been sanctioned by the UK and US and is facing meltdown. It comes after growing pressure from MPs and the Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries for the top tier to pull the...
Liverpool hasn’t been this close to Manchester City since Christmas Day. The gap is now down to three points in the Premier League title race — which once looked heavily in favor of City — after Liverpool demolished Leeds 6-0 on Wednesday. Mohamed Salah, naturally, inflicted most of the damage by scoring two goals from the penalty spot and playing a part in two more. Sadio Mane also scored twice. Liverpool has finally caught up to City in games — they’ve both played 26 in the 38-game season — and nearly on points. With Liverpool still to visit City’s Etihad Stadium on April 10, there’s little to choose between the top two — the last two winners of English football’s biggest prize. At one stage in the middle of January, City held a 13-point lead, though Liverpool always had games in hand and just needed to keep in sight of the defending champions. On a run of six straight victories, Jurgen Klopp’s team has done just that and looks in prime shape heading into Sunday’s League Cup final against Chelsea....
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Jordan Horston scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds to lead No. 7 Tennessee over Mississippi 70-58 Sunday, snapping the Rebels’ 13-game winning streak. The Lady Vols (15-1, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) built a 20-point lead early in the third quarter and Ole Miss (13-2, 1-1) could never pull back to within single digits. Alexus Dye had 17 points and Tess Darby added 13 for Tennessee. Shakira Austin led Ole Miss with 26 points and nine rebounds while Lashonda Monk scored 11. Austin was 8-of-10 shooting while the rest of the Ole Miss team was just 12 of 49. She also made 10 of 12 free throws. Tennessee took control with a 13-0 run in the second quarter capped by Darby’s 3-pointer, and led 39-21 at halftime. Austin scored 11 points in the third to help the Rebels close to within 11 points multiple times. But Tennessee made 8 of 11 free throws in the quarter, when Dye scored eight. Horston then helped put the game out of reach with two baskets and a free throw early...
PHILADELPHIA — It won’t happen at home — coach Steve Kerr and most the rest of the known universe agree — but Steph Curry was in no hurry to make history Saturday night in Philadelphia. That leaves four more potential sites for the inevitable historic shot, and Curry can find a special meaning in them all. It took 22 minutes and 15 seconds of game time for Curry to start the countdown, the second straight game within range of the all-time 3-point record that he has started by missing at least his first four shots. With 18 points and nine rebounds, Curry came close to a double-double, but the magic number only decreased by two in the face of stiff defense from Matisse Thybulle. It stands at seven as Curry takes his pursuit to Indianapolis, a mark he has reached in 101 previous games. The Warriors needed more to pull out a win in the first of five straight games away from home. Golden State built a lead as large as 13 points midway through the third quarter...

And the gaffer said: “It’s an important game for us. We can hopefully secure a seeding for the play-offs, which would be nice. “It won’t be a disaster if we don’t get it because we are still going to have to deal with two difficult matches whether you are seeded or not. But we want to finish the campaign on a high. “It’s been a good campaign for us but we want to finish on a high in front of a full house at Hampden against a very, very good Denmark team. “It’s a measure of a good group of players who want...
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — International Olympic Committee Vice President John Coates says challenging China on its human rights record as Beijing prepares to host the 2022 Winter Games is “not in our remit.” There has been widespread criticism of Beijing’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims in the northwest China region of Xinjiang, which rights groups say amounts to genocide, as well as its crackdown on protesters in Hong Kong and its policies toward Tibet and Taiwan. Coates, who is also president of the Australian Olympic Committee, said while human rights were an important part of the fundamental principles of the Olympics the IOC had to respect the sovereignty of the host country. “The IOC’s remit is to ensure that there is no human rights abuses in respect of the conduct of the Games within the National Olympic Committee, or within the Olympic movement,” Coates told the National Press Club in Australia’s capital, Canberra, on Wednesday. “We have no ability to go into a country and tell them what to do.” Coates said the IOC was “not a world government.” “We have...
Lena Dunham Marries Musician Luis Felber Small towns brace for change, prosperity with Fords arrival The 2021 Major League Baseball season has just five days left and the Seattle Mariners are only a half-game out of a playoff spot. They haven't been in a postseason since 2001, which is now the longest playoff drought in baseball. Their 18-year postseason drought is not only the longest in baseball, it's the longest in North American pro sports (NBA, NHL, NFL). © Provided by CBS Sports This is the closest the club has been to a playoff spot with five or fewer games left in the season since 2001, when they last reached the postseason. Derrick Henry now has an extra game to help him surpass Eric Dickerson’s 37-year-old rushing record. The quest for the first 2,000-yard receiving season just got a little bit easier for big-play threats like Stefon Diggs and DeAndre Hopkins. And who knows what Patrick Mahomes can do to the record book now that he has 17 games to rack up yards and touchdowns? The NFL’s move to 17 games in 2021 has made some records that once might have seemed unbreakable a little bit more attainable with an extra game to do it. Here’s a look at some marks that could be surpassed along with a couple that still should be safe: RUNNING DOWN DICKERSON Dickerson broke O.J. Simpson’s single-season rushing record of 2,003 yards when he ran for 2,105 in 1984 for the Rams. Since that season, six more players have cracked 2,000, but the closest anyone came to Dickerson happened in 2012 when Adrian Peterson fell 8 yards short of matching it. Henry ran for 2,027 yards last season when he averaged 126.7 per game. Had he...

Although it may seem somewhat confusing, Tencent’s successful battle royale is receiving a small name change, going from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, better known by its acronym PUBG, to PUBG: Battlegrounds. A change that never ceases to surprise because of its redundancy, since it technically makes it PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds. However, it seems that this change hides more than meets the eye, as it brings with it a complete rebrand, and the beginning of the future of this shooter title. “We are actively expanding the PUBG brand through a variety of new experiences in their universe, “declared the publisher herself, Krafton,” changing the brand from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to PUBG: Battlegrounds is the first step in making this vision a reality. Additional titles in the franchise will bear the PUBG name, as you will soon see in our next game, PUBG: New State«. Thus, the first details of this next game in the series have also been advanced, with a title for mobile devices developed within a futuristic environment. With a 30-year time jump, the new map promises futuristic weapons, techniques, and vehicles,...
