A NUMBER of Vladimir Putin's cronies have had their luxury yachts confiscated after they were slapped with sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine. To those who recall the modest but elegant dimensions of the Royal Yacht Britannia, it is nothing less than an aberration, a monstrous floating palace built not for a queen but to one man’s towering vanity. That such a ship, where every conceivable surface is of gold or inlaid marble, should be given the name of one of the most gentle and noble figures in literature only adds to the sense of outrage. For this is the Scheherazade, reputedly Vladimir Putin’s £500 million superyacht where each of its six decks groans with obscene luxury and hideous excess. There is, however, some grim satisfaction that as his guns continue to pulverise the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol and rain death on defenceless citizens across Ukraine, this monument to vulgarity — where even the lavatory paper is dispensed via tasteless golden holders — is, for now at least, trapped behind the masts of a forest of lesser craft and unable to put to sea. Solaris, above, has been joined by the giant Eclipse vessel as the Chelsea owner seeks to avoid their seizure in the country which has said it has no plans to implement sanctions. Abramovich is believed to have been in Istanbul last week but not on board either yacht as they arrived in Turkey. The 430ft-long Solaris, which cost £430million, is the newest addition to the Abramovich fleet after taking to the seas last year. It has 48 cabins across eight decks, a crew of 60 and space for 36 guests who can make use of a helipad and beach club area. Designed by Australian Marc Newson and built by a German shipyard, it features the largest panes of glass ever built into a yacht. Its sister vessel Eclipse, one of the world’s biggest yachts at 533ft long, is reported to have built-in missile defences. Opponents of Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus are uniting with a petition demanding that Switzerland expels the strongman's 'lover' Alina Kabaeva amid claims she is hiding with their secret children in a luxury villa. Kabaeva, 38, is a former Olympic gymnast and gold medalist who is widely believed to be Putin's mistress and mother to secret children whom he has never officially recognised.  The petition comes amid reports that Kabaeva, once named 'Russia's most flexible woman', was sent to a private chalet in Switzerland earlier this month amid the invasion of Ukraine.  'It's time you reunite Eva Braun with her Führer,' the strongly-worded petition said.  'Despite the current war, Switzerland continues to host an accomplice of Putin's regime.' The West has so far not sanctioned Kabaeva, who as well as being Putin's rumoured secret partner is also chairman of the board of directors at National Media Group - a major Kremlin-obedient TV and newspaper behemoth - with a salary of almost £8 million a year.  The pair have been pictured together on several occasions, and investigations by the...

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine somehow managed to be shocking despite having been predicted, repeatedly, by President Joe Biden and members of his administration. Even the people making the predictions didn’t seem to believe them. Now that it’s happened and the implications are sinking in, the gap between the reality of the world and America’s perception of it looks vast. It’s almost enough to make one wonder if a bitterly divided America has been fighting about the wrong questions. If the U.S. and its European allies were more confident and concerted, they might have given Russian President Vladimir Putin pause. But the U.S. isn’t merely divided; it is distracted. America’s cultural civil war has turned attention away from questions — about trade, national security and economic policy — that turn out to matter a lot. Precisely what Putin hopes to achieve with this war isn’t clear. The strength of popular resistance might have taken him by surprise. With luck, his invasion will eventually be judged a colossal mistake. For the moment, though, one thing is plain: His grievance over what the U.S. and the West have done to...

The chief engineer - who had been working on the vessel for over a decade - opened one valve in the engine room and a second where the crew lived before allegedly telling three workers, also Ukrainians, to jump ship. He also shut down the electricity and closed the fuel valves. The yacht was left with a destroyed engine room. Taras was arrested and later told a Spanish court he blamed his boss for producing the weapons that were being...

A new investigation by the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK)—a non-profit organization established by imprisoned opposition politician Alexei Navalny—has unearthed photos allegedly showing the obscenely gaudy seaside palace long rumored to belong to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The luxurious getaway, located outside the resort town of Gelendzhik on the Black Sea, reportedly boasts a casino, a private theater and a bizarre hookah lounge complete with a pole-dancing stage. FBK Emblems of the Russian double-headed eagle symbol, the main element of the coat of arms of the Russian Empire, are omnipresent throughout the palatial estate, including in what appears to be the private dancing room. They stick out like a sore thumb, along with a stripper pole that stands in stark contrast with the image of royal opulence the palace projects. Pink and tan pillows are strewn on the floor, to provide additional relaxation in between annexations. FBK The FBK report, which was unveiled on Thursday, follows another explosive investigation by the group about the palace released last year. At the time, the massive structure was in process of being remodeled, reportedly due...

They are two teenagers just fooling around in a series of homemade social media videos. The girl is slim with long, pale, brown hair and a pretty face that is strangely familiar. The boy is dark-haired, good-looking and wears a Mona Lisa T-shirt. In one sequence they dance, pose and pout to Vibe by the American artist Cookiee Kawaii, the viral soundtrack to 1.6 million other teenage TikTok films. But this version is different. It is the only one to star the alleged 'secret daughter' of Russian president Vladimir Putin and her friend who, intriguingly, happens to be the nephew of a Mafia-linked tycoon, lives in a £4.5 million flat by the Royal Albert Hall in West London and attended a British public school. There is also an extraordinary twist concerning the south coast town of Bournemouth, as we shall see. Her TikTok video with Robert Skigin  While Russia increasingly resembles the Soviet police state of old, the domestic circumstances of these two cosseted young people represents to many of its less fortunate citizens that which is rotten in...
A luxury mansion linked to Vladimir Putin in Siberia has been removed from a Russian online map site following an outcry over the president's £1billion Black Sea palace.   An £87 million hunting and fishing retreat beside the Yenisei River was previously visible on online Yandex Maps. But it has recently vanished from maps on this Russian search engine in an alleged bid to 'hide' its existence, say reports today. The heavily-guarded timber Siberian bolt hole in the Krasnoyarsk region remains visible on Google Maps. The revelation comes as the FSB counterintelligence service claimed NATO has been spying on the area around the £1billion Gelendzhik Palace close to the Black Sea.  Putin's jailed foe Alexei Navalny revealed the palace's jaw-dropping luxury and claimed it had its own Russian border post, and was covered by a strict no-fly zone.  An architectural render shows Putin's heavily-guarded timber mansion in Russia's Krasnoyarsk region The £87million timber bolt-hole has vanished from Russia's Yandex Maps in an apparent bid to hide its existence  Putin's timber mansion has been removed from Russian Yandex Maps...
