    A Hudson Valley man has been arrested for alleged criminal possession of controlled substances and a loaded handgun following a warrant search at his home. The warrant was executed in Dutchess County in the city of Poughkeepsie on Friday, May 6. Following an investigation, Luis A. Martinez, age unknown, of the city of Poughkeepsie, was arrested following the search in which a number of illegal drugs and a loaded handgun were found, according to Det. Sgt. Adam Harris, of the Dutchess County Drug Task Force. He was charged with criminal possession of controlled substances with intent to sell and criminal possession of a weapon, Harris said. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail, Harris added. The Dutchess County Drug Task Force was assisted by: City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Town of Hyde Park Police Department Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force.     A Newark man was arrested after a dispute in which he allegedly brandished a loaded handgun at a girlfriend in Atlantic City, authorities said. At 12:19 p.m., on April 30, Atlantic City police responded to the beach block of Park Place for a report of a domestic dispute inside a vehicle.  The 9-1-1 caller also reported that the male suspect was in possession of a handgun and had threatened to use it against the victim. Police arrived to find one of the parties involved, Nasir Sutton, standing in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. The victim was located a short distance away.  After speaking to the victim, Officers Michael Gunsser and William Palmer learned that Sutton threatened to assault her and shoot her in the head, according to police. A subsequent investigation led to the search of the vehicle where a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition was located. Sutton was placed in custody without incident. The loaded handgun was later determined to be stolen out of the state of Georgia. Sutton, 25, of Newark, was charged with several weapons...

For the past two years, the Unity in Community Mediation Team met weekly with the Chief of Police, MPD command staff, and the Police Federation to improve community safety, but the relationship goes back decades. “The unity in community mediation team has been fighting back since 2003 about some of these same issues that never got addressed,” said Al Flowers.
