Graham remains just a terrible, terrible person. Let it be known that during a brief, ephemeral moment when Donald Trump sycophant Sen. Lindsey Graham momentarily gained a conscience and understood just how horrific the Jan. 6 insurrection provoked by Trump's lies really was, even he expressed relief that Joe Biden would soon be taking office and sending Trump back to the toxic swamp from which he came. "We'll actually come out of this thing stronger," Graham told reporter Jonathan Martin in a recording only being released by Martin now to goose publicity for his new book. "Moments like this reset. It'll take a while." Martin probed Graham on his optimism: "And Biden will be better, right?" "Yeah, totally," responded Graham. "He'll be maybe the best person to have, right? I mean, how mad can you get at Joe Biden?" Yeah, we're all just going to have to let that sit there for a while. It turns out that Lindsey Graham is just as wrong about the actions the Lindsey Graham of the future will take as he is about everything...
SAN JOSE – The Sharks could still be a couple of months away from hiring a full-time general manager although in-person interviews will begin soon, team president Jonathan Becher said. Becher said the Sharks, who started with a list of more than 50 people, have narrowed the number of candidates to between 20 and 25. The team has had calls with approximately 10 to 12 people already and has scheduled times to talk to other candidates via Zoom. Based on those video calls, the Sharks will start to schedule in-person interviews in waves, perhaps two or three per week. “And even if we find the exact right person, the very first person that comes in,” Becher said, “we’ll still go with the process.” Becher said the Sharks’ search committee, which includes owner Hasso Plattner and interim general manager Joe Will, will speak to the most intriguing candidates another two to four more times. “There is no front runner so far,” Becher said. “Nobody can say they’re a front runner right now because literally, we don’t have (one). We’re not even...
A report issued by a team of researchers from institutions including Harvard University found that economic and racial learning gaps in states such as Texas and Florida did not widen due to schools largely maintaining in-person classes during the Chinese coronavirus pandemic. Harvard Professor Thomas Kane explains: “Where schools remained in-person, gaps did not widen. Where schools shifted to remote learning, gaps widened sharply. Shifting to remote instruction was like turning a switch on a critical piece of our social infrastructure that we had taken for granted.” In November 2020, for example, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced that schools were required to remain open for in-person learning in the spring as the state continued to battle the coronavirus. As a result of maintaining in-person classes, schools lost little ground academically, according to the study, which also noted that high-poverty schools in America held many fewer in-person classes, and suffered large losses in achievement due to the increase in remote learning. Trump administration Attorney General Bill Barr on Wednesday called the act of leaking a bombshell Supreme Court memo about overturning Roe v. Wade an 'unforgivable sin.' A draft opinion written by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito sparked a firestorm late on Monday night when it was first reported by Politico that the court could consider striking down federal abortion protections. Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed its authenticity on Tuesday and vowed to investigate the source of the leak as both pro-choice and anti-abortion protesters descended upon the Supreme Court for a day of fierce demonstrations. But Barr speculated that the leaker could face criminal charges -- even outlining 'a number of federal statutes' he said would apply in a television interview on Fox News. Host Martha McCallum noted that the person's identity could be revealed by the media seeking to build a 'cottage industry' around them that included book deals and other promotional identity. 'Well, I hope they build it while they're in jail,' Barr answered dryly. 'Because this is a grave -- an unforgivable sin, and I think it...
A 33-year-old mother of three from central Texas receiving an abortion at Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport, Louisiana. Abortion is still legal, even in Texas. Amy Hagstrom Miller, president and CEO of Whole Woman’s Health, which operates four clinics in Texas, wants to reiterate that. Even since Sept. 1, when the abortion bounty-hunter law went into effect, the clinics have still been helping people. “When news like this comes out, it confuses people and scares people, and I think there are people who will read these stories and think that abortion is already illegal,” said Hagstrom Miller. “I think it’s important for us to speak to these people and let them know this isn’t final, and at least for now we can still offer them the care they deserve.” However, when the Supreme Court makes the leaked draft ruling from Justice Samuel Alito overturning Roe v. Wade and Casey (the long-standing rulings protecting the right to an abortion) official, Texas is going to ban abortion with just one exception: to save the life of the patient or if there’s a risk...

The suspect in Tuesday’s Brooklyn subway shooting is still at large, but police have named a person of interest. There’s a $50,000 reward for the capture of Frank James, a 62-year-old man with addresses in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Ten people were shot in the Tuesday morning shooting, with five critically injured. Another 13 sustained injuries from smoke inhalation—the suspect tossed two smoke grenades—or while fleeing the gunfire.  While James has not been named as a suspect … there’s that $50,000 reward. He had rented a U-Haul van, the keys to which were found at the site of the shooting, along with a credit card with his name on it. James is also linked to a series of YouTube videos—from which the police took a screenshot to use as his picture in identifying him as a person of interest—in which a man, apparently James, is shown “delivering extended tirades, many of them overtly concerned with race and violence, often tying those subjects in with current events, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the policies of [New York City Mayor Eric] Adams,” The New York Times reported....

Graham reportedly called White House counsel Pat Cipollone on January 6 last year and told him 'we'll be asking you for the 25th Amendment' if Trump did not ramp up his condemnation of his supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) threatened White House officials that he would call for Donald Trump's removal from office if he did not condemn his supporters storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, a new book excerpt revealed on Wednesday. Graham, among the ex-president's staunchest supporters in Congress, reportedly even hoped the insurrection would be a catalyst for the GOP breaking free of Trump. He expressed that then-President-elect Joe Biden was the right person to lead the country amid the political tumult following the 2020 presidential election, according to the forthcoming book This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden and the Battle for America's Future, by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns.  If Trump did not condemn the Capitol rioters on stronger terms, an 'enraged' Graham told White House counsel Pat Cipollone on January 6, then 'we’ll be asking you...

Authors of a bill that seeks to eliminate almost all barriers to abortion quietly swapped the word "woman" for "person" in the latest version of the text. A 2017 version of the Women's Health Protection Act reads: "to protect a woman’s right and ability to determine whether and when to bear a child or end a pregnancy by limiting restrictions on the provision of abortion services." However, the version that was brought to the Senate floor Monday says: "to protect a person’s ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy, and to protect a health care provider’s ability to provide abortion services."
