YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — Nissan is considering adding a new auto plant in the U.S. to keep up with growing demand for electric vehicles, a top executive at the Japanese automaker said Friday. “It may not be a surprise that we go for a third plant,” Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta told reporters at Yokohama headquarters. Nissan Motor Co. now has two auto plants in the U.S. One in Canton, Mississippi makes the Titan pickup truck and Altima sedan, among other models. The other in Smyrna, Tennessee makes the Leaf electric car, Pathfinder sport utility vehicle and other models. Each of the plants employs thousands of workers and has produced millions of Nissan vehicles. The third plant would not just be an added assembly line to an existing plant but a totally new facility, although it may be built as an extension of an existing plant, Gupta said. That would add several thousand jobs in the area, although its realization would be some years down the road. “The importance of localization will increase year on year,” Gupta said....
Research out of Oxford University revealed that in countries including the US, the UK, Australia, and across Western Europe, adopting a vegan diet could slash food costs by one-third. The study found that when compared with vegetarian and flexitarian diets, vegan diets were the cheapest and can be healthier and more environmentally-friendly than standard diets. The research, which was published in The Lancet Planetary Health, compared the costs of seven different sustainable diets to the current typical diets in 150 different countries using the food prices from the World Bank’s International Comparison Program. In the end, they found that vegan diets were the cheapest and slashed food costs by up to one-third, with vegetarian diets being a close second. Flexitarian diets with low amounts of meat and dairy cut food costs by up to 14%, while pescatarian diets actually increased costs by up to 2%. This month marks Veganuary! ANTIOCH — A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, with a third male suspect still outstanding after a pursuit that led to lockdown of a nearby school, authorities said. According to a police press release, dispatchers received calls at 10:53 a.m. about a shooting at the city’s water treatment plant in the 400 block of Putnam Street. As officers responded to that call, new callers shared word of an armed robbery at a business in the 2200 block of A Street almost a mile away. After officers responded to the plant site, where they detained the man and teen along Lone Tree Way and recovered two firearms and apparently stolen items, they later learned that the two and a third man had robbed the business at gunpoint. When the three fled in a black sedan, a robbery victim followed it to the plant as occupants fired at least one gun at him. The three fled, and the third suspect avoided capture. Officials at nearby Park Middle School...
@pilattiESPN If the third is the charm, Saúl Canelo Alvarez should unify against Caleb Plant in November, but nobody knows that. Canelo doesn’t even know, Reynoso doesn’t know, least of all Eddie Hearn. An Eddie Hearn who today seems very far from that image of ’employee of the month’ willing to fight with Plant representatives in negotiations that, everything suggests, were a failure. Now, it is Eddy Reynoso who once again assumed control of the Franchise and that is how it went. Bivol sent them a bucket of cold water when they accepted the fight, but…. if they gave him adequate time to arrive in conditions not to be a sack of potatoes. Something that perhaps he thought would happen to him if he accepted the clause of reaching below the medium-heavy limit on the balance of September 18. Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Eddy Reynoso That fight fell and they resumed negotiations with the representatives of Caleb Plant, but, for some unknown reason, they keep their interest in Bivol tied, when ‘it is a story that is...

The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday announced that it had authorized an additional batch of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine that had been produced from a troubled Baltimore facility. The news, posted in a press release on FDA’s website, comes days after the agency had authorized two batches from the Emergent BioSolutions plant but found "several other batches" not suitable for use.  A New York Times report citing people familiar with the situation said the company was directed to toss about 60 million doses that had been produced at the facility. Tuesday’s update again noted that the regulatory agency is "not yet ready to include the Emergent BioSolutions plant in the Janssen EUA as an authorized manufacturing facility." The FDA said it "continues to work through issues there" with both Johnson & Johnson and Emergent BioSolutions.  The company has been told previously to discard doses from the plant, which has been repeatedly cited for problems pertaining to poorly trained employees, cracked vials and mold issues, according to the Associated Press.  CDC PANEL TO DISCUSS COVID-19 VACCINATION, RARE HEART ISSUES...
A MUM has issued a terrifying warning after her daughter suffered third degree burns and was hospitalised for days after playing by a stream. The anonymous parent took her daughter fishing at a river in Burringham, North Lincolnshire, last month. 2The mum claimed her daughter had been hospitalised for two and a half days after she came into contact with hogweedCredit: Burringham & Gunness Community Safety/Facebook But as they were enjoying their day out, the mum noticed her little girl's hands start to swell - and it then dawned on her that she'd come into contact with "the UK's most dangerous plant" giant hogweed. Posting on the Facebook group Burringham & Gunness Community Safety, she wrote: "I took my daughter fishing on Sunday she broke the stem and some of the sap got on her hands. "The UV light from the sun activated the chemical in the sap and it has burned her hands really bad." After rushing her daughter to hospital, the mum was told she had suffered third degree burns. 2You can identify hogweed by the pretty...
WEYMOUTH (CBS) – There are growing concerns over the Weymouth compressor station after the third unplanned release of natural gas since September. Enbridge, the company that runs the station, said the venting on Tuesday was done safely and the community was not impacted. The $100 million compressor was built to pump natural gas through Weymouth into Maine and Canada. It officially went online in January after neighbors spent years protesting the project citing health and safety risks. I was out and about going magnet fishing and was wearing three-quarter-length trousers. "I didn’t know anything about it. I was none the wiser until the next day when I first felt irritation on my skin. "At first I thought I could just use a dock...
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Tyson said about a third of workers at the company's Waterloo, Iowa plant have received the COVID-19 vaccine, the Quad-City Times reported Sunday. The virus has already sickened about a third of the site's nearly 3,000 employees, and Waterloo Tyson is linked to at least six worker deaths from the coronavirus. The company this month hosted vaccination clinics for Waterloo workers and partnered with grocer Hy-Vee to provide shots to Independence, Iowa employees. About a third of the 265 workers at the Independence plant have been vaccinated, according to Tyson. Last spring, major outbreaks at a number of meatpacking plants — where workers often stand should-to-shoulder on production lines — forced them to close temporarily because of the number of illnesses and to install additional safety measures. The Waterloo site was among plants temporarily shuttered. The UFCW union, which represents roughly 80% of the nation’s beef and pork workers and 33% of its poultry workers, estimates that at least 22,000 meatpacking workers have been infected or exposed, and 132 have died of COVID-19. It is the fly trap plant known as Venus. Among the vast number of species of animals and plants there are millions of mysteries waiting to be discovered. Research flora and the fauna in the Earth does not rest. And recently it was proven once again. A group of scientists found only the third plant capable of generating magnetic field. That is to say: electricity. It is the fly trapping plant known by the name of Venus. The action of generating a magnetic field is carried out when it is about to attack its prey. Scientists explain that the magnetic field they produce has a force of 0.5 picotesla. This figure is one million times less than that produced by the entire Earth. Therefore, they detail that beyond fulfilling a useful function for the plant itself, « it is probably a by-product of the electrical energy that flows through its leaves, » said the lead author of the research, Anne Fabricant, as detailed by Slash Gear. Fabricant is one of the postgraduate candidates at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany....

Tesla's third-quarter sales rose 44% from a year ago as global demand for its electric vehicles proved stronger than most other automakers. The company said it delivered 139,000 SUVs and sedans from July through September compared with 97,000 deliveries during the same period a year ago. The sales outpaced Wall Street estimates. Analysts polled by data provider FactSet expected the company to sell 137,000 vehicles during the quarter. Tesla could post its fifth straight profitable quarter when it releases third-quarter earnings later this month. Tesla has weathered the coronavirus pandemic better than most car companies. Its second-quarter global sales rose 2.5% over the first quarter despite virus precautions forcing the shutdown of its only U.S. assembly plant. But they were still down 4.8% from the second quarter of 2019 Tesla posted a surprising $104 million net profit from April through June, boosted by the sale of electric vehicle credits to other automakers. In the second quarter, Tesla said it delivered 90,650 vehicles as it rolled out the new Model Y SUV in the U.S. and China. Coronavirus...
Experts have found that ozone-depleting substances are responsible for a third of global warming between 1955 and 2005. These manmade substances were banned in the 1980s as part of the Montreal Protocol after scientists found a huge hole in the ozone layer. Ozone-depleting substances (ODS) include refrigerants, solvents and propellents. These were developed in the 1920s and 1930s. Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory published a paper with their findings in January 2020. In the paper, researchers attributed half of arctic warming and sea ice loss between 1955 and 2005 to these substances. Professor Lorenzo Polvani, lead author of the study commented on the report, “Climate mitigation is in action as we speak because these substances are decreasing in the atmosphere, thanks to the Montreal Protocol. In the coming decades, they will contribute less and less to global warming. It’s a good-news story.” The Montreal Protocol was signed in 1987 and has now been signed by 200 countries. The global agreement dictates the removal and consumption of ODS. A new study found that replacing meat and dairy can cut your risk of heart disease! The study found that patients that subbed meat and dairy with vegan alternatives cut their heart disease risk by a third. Replacing red meat with nuts and seeds, participants were 30% less likely to die from coronary heart disease. And even if you swap plant-based options for 3% of food intake still cuts your heart disease risk. The study looked at 400,000 people over 16 years to get the results. June 23 was the third-highest number of new coronavirus cases reported in a single day in the United States. Johns Hopkins data reported that 34, 720 cases were reported. It’s a sign the virus is not slowing down. The previously daily high of new cases reported was on April 24. The World Health Organization expects the world to reach 10 million cases within the week. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a briefing on June 24, “More than 9.1 million cases of Covid-19 have now been reported to WHO, and more than 470,000 deaths. In the first month of this outbreak, less than 10,000 cases were reported to WHO. In the last month, almost 4 million cases have been reported. We expect to reach a total of 10 million cases within the next week. This is a sober reminder that even as we continue research into vaccines and therapeutics, we have an urgent responsibility to do everything we can with the tools we have now to suppress transmission and save lives.” Last week, the WHO urged everyone to...
