WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal grand jury has heard testimony in recent months about Hunter Biden’s income and payments he received while serving on the board of a Ukraine energy company, according to two people familiar with the probe. It remains unclear whether he might be charged. But the grand jury activity underscores that a federal tax investigation into President Joe Biden’s son that began in 2018 remains active as prosecutors continue to examine foreign payments and other aspects of his finances. A lawyer for Hunter Biden did not return a phone message and email seeking comment on Friday. A Justice Department spokesman deferred a request for comment to the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware, which is handling the investigation. A spokesperson for the office did not return a phone message seeking comment. The people familiar with the investigation could not discuss details of the ongoing probe publicly and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity. Biden also allegedly instructed her to take out thousands of dollars at a time from an ATM to cover miscellaneous expenses. Kestan said she did not know how Biden came by the money, according to the source. Fox News Digital obtained emails showing that Biden transferred $2,750 over the course of two days in November 2018. Sources said Brady, Pittsburgh's top federal prosecutor and a staunch Republican, headed up the investigation at the request of Attorney General Bill Barr after Giuliani reached out with information he had gathered on the Biden family.   This investigation was separate to the one going on in Delaware.  The sources told the Times that people within the Department of Justice and the FBI were concerned about the probe, given both Brady's and Giuliani's ties to Donald Trump.  No charges have ever been brought from the investigation.  News of the probe comes the same week Hunter revealed he is under federal investigation in Delaware for his taxes. In an interview Thursday on "America's Newsroom," Sen. Hawley also discussed his proposal for direct relief to working families if Congress could not pass a coronavirus stimulus bill in the coming days. SEN. JOSH HAWLEY: We need to get to the bottom of what exactly has gone on here with Hunter Biden. And by the way, I hope an apology will be forthcoming from the Biden campaign and from Facebook and Twitter and all these people who censored the New York Post. Turns out, guess what? The New York Post was right. President-elect Joe Biden's brother James is caught up in an FBI investigation, it emerged Thursday - the day after Hunter Biden confirmed he was the target of a federal tax probe. Agents have asked about James Biden, one of Joe's two younger brothers, during an investigation into a hospital business in Pennsylvania in which he was involved, Politico reported. The business, Americore, ran rural hospitals and was raided by agents in January after entering bankruptcy. Politico reported that in the course of their investigation, the FBI has asked about James Biden's involvement in the business. He has been described as its 'principal,' but has disputed that description and his role is the subject of litigation in at least two states. In one court case he was accused of dropping his brother's name to drum up business. The revelation came after Hunter admitted he was the target of a separate tax investigation by federal prosecutors in Delaware, focused on his extensive - and lucrative - Chinese business dealings. Republican senator Tom Cotton told Fox News Thursday that there should be a special...
WILMINGTON, Del. – President-elect Joe Biden's son Hunter said Wednesday that he is facing a federal investigation into his taxes, putting a renewed spotlight on the questions about his financial dealings that dogged his father's campaign. Federal investigators served a round of subpoenas on Tuesday, including to Hunter Biden, according to a person familiar with the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing probe. The tax investigation centers on his business dealings, the person said. The Justice Department’s investigation, centering on potential tax fraud crimes, had been going on at least a year before President-elect Biden announced his candidacy, according to another person familiar with the matter. Investigators did not reach out in the weeks prior because of a Justice Department policy surrounding elections that prohibits overt investigative acts. In a statement released by the president-elect's transition office, Hunter Biden said he learned about the investigation on Tuesday but did not disclose specifics about what was being scrutinized. “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of...
