NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick reportedly showed a strong arm and solid conditioning at his recent workout with the Las Vegas Raiders, but that doesn't mean his five-year absence from football is ending. As of Thursday evening, no deal was imminent between the controversial quarterback and the AFC West club, sources told ESPN. The Raiders were receptive to Kaepernick and one source described the workout as a 'positive.' If he were to be signed, Kaepernick would presumably become a backup to starting Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.  First-year Raiders coach Josh McDaniels shied away from answering questions about the tryout, saying he would only comment on players who are currently signed with Las Vegas. 'We've brought in tons of people for workouts,' McDaniels told reporters Thursday. 'We said it from day one that we would look at every opportunity, and he's not the first player that we looked at and not the last one.' 'So there's gonna be a lot of people that are gonna come in and out of this building and have an opportunity to make an impression,' the...

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints expect their offense to be more productive next season. The optimism is largely based on the expectation that they will have quarterback Jameis Winston and former All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas back from serious injuries. Neither is all the way back, but it’s a long way to the start of the season and both are making progress. The Saints concluded their opening week of voluntary offseason practices Thursday. Winston participated on a limited basis and Thomas was at the team’s facility but didn’t practice. “We have time,” Winston said after practice. “The season isn’t next week. (We’re) cherishing these opportunities where we get to grow mentally. I was so excited to see that Mike was in the building, being around the team.” Winston, who is seven months past reconstructive ACL surgery on his left knee that he injured in the seventh game of last season, said his drop-backs are “full speed,” but he’s “still progressing into running.” “I’m not rolling out yet,” he added. “I want to be ready right now, but...
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders concluded organized team practices Thursday with all four quarterbacks on the roster participating but the buzz surrounding the franchise was about Colin Kaepernick, who has gotten a workout with the club. First-year coach Josh McDaniels wasn’t entertaining any conversation about Kaepernick’s potential future with the team, however. “Just by a standard procedure, we will only talk about the people on our team,” McDaniels said. “Dave (Ziegler, general manager) and his staff have worked out tons of guys this spring, and we really don’t make comments about the evaluations that we made or what they looked like, what they didn’t look like, strengths and weaknesses, those kind of things. “They’re kind of private obviously for us as we look at things to try to make decisions to make the team better.” Kaepernick got his first chance to work out for an NFL team Wednesday since last playing in the league in 2016, when he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. McDaniels said there will...
Getty Colin Kaepernick with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. Colin Kaepernick took a major step in a possible return to the NFL when the Las Vegas Raiders brought him in for a workout. It was the first time he had even had a visit with the team since 2017 with the Seattle Seahawks. There doesn’t appear to have been much movement on a contract signing but this is the closest he’s been to making an NFL roster since the 2016 season. Both the Raiders and Kaepernick have stayed quiet about the workout but there is some information that’s getting leaked to the media. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Las Vegas was impressed with the quarterback’s arm strength and conditioning. Was told two things stood out in Colin Kaepernick’s workout with Raiders: Arm strength and good overall conditioning. Workout was largely considered a positive. Let’s see where it goes from here. — Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) May 26, 2022 Kaepernick has said that he’s been staying in good shape over the years and it appears he made sure he was...
Getty Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. Despite being out of the NFL since 2016, Colin Kaepernick remains one of the most popular topics in the sports world. The Las Vegas Raiders became the first team since 2017 to visit with the quarterback on May 25th, which caused a stir online. It remains to be seen if the team will sign him but this is the best chance he’s had to land on a roster in a long time. If Kaepernick signs with the Raiders, he’ll be coming in knowing that he’ll be a backup. The team just handed Derek Carr a three-year contract extension and he’s the starting quarterback going forward. Carr has yet to say anything about the Kaepernick workout but his thoughts on the polarizing quarterback are well-documented. The two quarterbacks used to play near each other when Kaepernick was with the San Francisco 49ers and the Raiders were still in Oakland. Carr offered strong thoughts about Kaepernick in 2017 that resurfaced online after the workout news dropped. “I know this – he’s a talented...
Colin Kaepernick, who last played professional football in 2016 -- the year he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice -- worked out Wednesday for the Las Vegas Raiders, a league source told ESPN.It marked Kaepernick's first workout with an NFL team since being exiled, and it was the first time the former star quarterback visited with a team since he flew to Seattle to meet with the Seahawks in May 2017, before they passed on the opportunity to sign him.TIMELINE: Colin Kaepernick's journey from San Francisco 49ers star to kneeling to protest racial injusticeKaepernick played at the University of Nevada, Reno, the only school to offer him a scholarship. Getty NFL free agent QB Colin Kaepernick. The Las Vegas Raiders made waves with the decision to bring in Colin Kaepernick for a workout. The polarizing quarterback hasn’t had a chance to work out for the team since the Seattle Seahawks brought him in back in 2017. Outside of owner Mark Davis offering support for the team to sign the quarterback, there hasn’t been anything substantial linking the Raiders to him until now. However, this interest didn’t come out of nowhere. According to Tyler Dragon of USA Today, the Raiders have been planning to work out Kaepernick “for a while” but made sure to keep things quiet so they could avoid creating”unnecessary attention.” Wednesday’s workout with the Raiders has been in the works for a while. The Raiders and Colin Kaepernick kept things quiet because they didn’t want to create any unnecessary attention, per a source. LAS VEGAS (CBS13) – Colin Kaepernick is reportedly drawing some interest from one NFL team, despite being six years removed from the league. On Wednesday, reports surfaced that the Las Vegas Raiders have scheduled a workout with Kaepernick this week. After five seasons away from football, Colin Kaepernick may be back on his way to the NFL.  ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the 34-year-old has a scheduled tryout with the Las Vegas Raiders this week, according to multiple sources.  Team spokespeople did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com's request for confirmation.   Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season, when he ignited a nationwide free speech debate by kneeling during the national anthem before games to protest discrimination and racist police brutality. The Raiders currently have a starting quarterback in 31-year-old Derek Carr, who is committed through the 2025 season after signing a three-year, $121 million extension. However, the Raiders could use the veteran Kaepernick as a reliable backup given his experience guiding them 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII in February of 2013.  Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season, when he ignited a nationwide free speech debate by kneeling during the national anthem before games to protest discrimination and racist police brutality COLIN KAEPERNICK CAREER TIMELINE  2011 - San Francisco 49ers take him with...
Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL in more than a half-decade but the quarterback will get another shot at a workout, this time with the Raiders. It’s been more than five years since NFL fans have seen Colin Kaepernick on the field for any team. That, of course, is also when he began kneeling on the field during the national anthem, which has caused fervent debate throughout the league since he made that decision. The question that has always lingered, however, is whether or not the quarterback who once led the 49ers to the Super Bowl would ever get another shot in the NFL. There have been nibbles but there hasn’t been a full-blown chance just yet. That might be changing, though. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Las Vegas Raiders are set to bring in Kaepernick for a workout this week. Colin Kaepernick, who last played football in 2016, the same year he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, is scheduled to work out this week for the Las Vegas Raiders, league...
Getty Former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. The Las Vegas Raiders made a big commitment to Derek Carr this offseason when they handed him a three-year contract extension. He’s clearly the starting quarterback going forward and there won’t be a controversy about that in training camp. However, the team’s backup quarterback situation leaves a bit to be desired. That could change in the near future as the Raiders have been linked to a free agent quarterback with ample starting experience. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Las Vegas is holding a workout for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Chicago Bears offensive lineman Teven Jenkins is doing everything he can to impress the Bears new coaching staff and protect his quarterback. Teven Jenkins will do whatever is necessary to help the Chicago Bears win football games and keep Justin Fields upright. That includes taking pilates classes. “You ever do a pilates workout? It is oh my God, ohhh, but it is good for you so I am happy to do it,” Jenkins acknowledged. There will be no complaints coming from Jenkins on what position he plays for Matt Eberflus and the new Bears coaching staff. “I’ll play wherever they need me. Get in where you fit in,” Jenkins said with a smile after another day of Bears OTAs. Jenkins is being asked to “fit in” at right tackle where he played the majority of his time at Oklahoma State. The Matt Nagy-led Bears used Jenkins at left tackle in two starts late last season after Jason Peters got injured– a tough ask for a player who was coming off back surgery. (Photo by Hannah Foslien/Getty Images) It appears that general manager John Schneider isn’t done tweaking the Seattle Seahawks roster prior to training camp. That shouldn’t be a surprise, but the team did bring in an intriguing veteran safety for a workout to play a different position. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo tweeted that former Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings safety George Iloka flew out to Seattle to work out with the Seahawks. What’s interesting is that the veteran safety was asked to work out as a coverage linebacker instead of a safety, per Garafolo. Former #Bengals and #Vikings safety worked out for the #Seahawks today with the thought he’d serve as a cover linebacker. Iloka hasn’t played since tearing his ACL midway through the 2020 season but has worked on a return to the NFL. Could happen soon. https://t.co/iYSQ6LM1oo —...
