OUR Milky Way galaxy is going to collide with another galaxy in a few billion years – here's what you need to know. In around 4.5 billion years, the Milky Way is predicted to merge with Andromeda – our galaxy's closest neighbor. 3The Milky Way galaxy is going to collide with another galaxy in a few billion years 3An illustration of what Andromeda's halo might look like if it were visible to the human eye.Credit: NASA/ ESA/ J. DePasquale and E. Wheatley (STScI)/ Z. Levay. Andromeda is a barrelled spiral galaxy that is located about 2.5 million light-years away from Earth. Currently, our neighbor is racing towards the Milky Way at a rate of around 70 miles (113 km) per second. And a recent 2020 study published in the Astrophysical Journal confirmed that the collision between the two galaxies is already underway. Using the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists were able to observe the Andromeda galaxy – which like our Milky Way and other galaxies, sits within a large envelope called a galactic halo. (CNN)This moment in time, like so many during the last two-plus years of the pandemic, is a confusing one for our country. Mixed signals make it hard to accurately gauge risk and act accordingly. On the one hand, with the almost complete lifting of restrictions and mandates around the country, and with case numbers, hospitalizations and deaths at relatively low levels, it's easy to feel that life is on track to getting back to normal, if not already there. That's especially true when someone as cautious as President Joe Biden's chief medical officer, Dr. Anthony Fauci, says that we are out of the pandemic phase, as he did a couple of weeks ago on PBS NewsHour."Namely, we don't have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now. So, if you're saying, Are we out of the pandemic phase in this country? We are," he said. But hundreds are still dying every day. The United States is on the verge of the tragic milestone...

A divorce lawyer has revealed why he thinks men should always pay on the first date - explaining that they should use it as a test to see if the woman is 'entitled' or 'appreciative.' Justin Lee, an attorney from Toronto, Canada, recently spoke out about why he thinks guys should always offer to cover the cost of a first date - claiming that the woman's reaction to the offer can determine whether or not they'll make a good partner. He explained that if a woman 'does not have the basic courtesy' to at least 'pretend' that they are going to pay for themselves, and if they have the 'audacity to expect a near-stranger' to purchase their meal, then the man should 'never go on another date with them.'  He shared his views to TikTok and the video quickly went viral - gaining more than 528,000 views and sparking a major debate between people in the comment section.  A divorce lawyer has revealed why he thinks men should always pay on the first date - explaining that they should use it...
Last year, the monstrous Bernardinelli-Bernstein comet (also known as C/2014 UN271) was discovered by the eponymous University of Pennsylvania astronomers Gary Bernstein and Pedro Bernardinelli. The pair called it the “nearly spherical cow of comets” in their paper about the discovery, but it wasn’t long until the world dubbed it the “megacomet” for being an absolute unit of a space object. While the megacomet fell out of the main space news spotlight, NASA astronomers set the the Hubble Space Telescope’s sights on the object in the months since—and discovered how truly immense it is. A new paper published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters on Tuesday confirmed that Bernardinelli-Bernstein had a nucleus—the icy core at the center of all comets—that’s more than 80 miles wide. That’s roughly 50 times larger than other comets and the largest ever observed. “This comet is literally the tip of the iceberg for many thousands of comets that are too faint to see in the more distant parts of the solar system,” David Jewitt, a professor of planetary science and astronomy at the UCLA and...
Cold reality struck early for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the frigid temperatures that turned the third round of the 86th Masters into a brutal ordeal. On the 1,661st hole of Tiger’s storied Augusta career, the greatest clutch putter the game has seen suffered the indignity of just his second four-putt on these treacherous greens and the first for 17 years. Woods tossed the putter at his bag following the rare lapse at the difficult par-four fifth. After all the fairy-tale stuff, here was the game inflicting a real blow to the solar plexus. The comeback of comebacks will continue to delight and enthral on Sunday but it became clear at that point that it will not end in the most improbable of victory outcomes this afternoon. LOUSIVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) – A status check two-and-a-half months after more than a thousand structures burned in the Marshall Fire shows no homes are being rebuilt, public debris clearing has not yet begun, and a congressman saying they are trying to help. What has started are complaints about insurance. “We need to do something on the insurance side to make sure the people who are profiting off this business are also paying for the losses,” said Louisville Mayor Ashley Stolzmann. Scoring on insurance coverage victims requires jumping through a lot of hoops. Congressman Joes Neguse gathered with fire victims and got an earful. Josh Engel who lost his home told Neguse it’s a grinding process, “and then you get questions. Did you really have that many bicycles? Did you have we got asked did you have six barstools?” Another fire victim nearly got emotional. “It just feels every step of the way is a challenge,” they said. The hope is that crews will be able to begin clearing debris soon. Neguse said he and Colorado’s U.S. Senators have written a...
In a conversation on Sunday with Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, former President Donald Trump offered a surprising comment regarding Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Trump repeated some of his regular talking points about the ongoing Russian invasion, claiming that he helped arm Ukraine and that Putin “never” would have invaded if he were still president. Pirro asked Trump about Putin’s motivations and how he thinks this might all end. “He’s got a big ego. I think what’s going on now is hard. I understand he’s gotten rid of a lot of his generals,” Trump said, explaining the difficult situation Putin is currently in, “adding he is not doing well.” Trump, who has been under fire in recent weeks for calling Putin “savvy” and a “genius,” continued and tried to explain Putin’s thinking behind the invasion. “They wanted to rebuild the Soviet Union,” Trump argued of Russia’s intentions. “That’s what this is all about to a large extent. And then you say, what’s the purpose of this?” “They had a country. You could see it was a country where...

Three mornings a week, regular as clockwork, I head out for my run. Set to autopilot, I plod contentedly along trails and through fields, distracted by daydreams or engrossed in a podcast. I have minimal interaction with passers-by and that’s the way I like it. Not today, though. My run is requiring Herculean amounts of effort and concentration. My heart rate is soaring and I’m unsteady on my feet. I’m attracting a lot of attention. Dogs bark as I pass, while their owners look bemused. Other runners avoid eye contact and give me a wide berth. A gaggle of schoolboys snigger as I nearly stagger into a ditch. Am I drunk? That may be preferable. I’m actually trying out the latest fitness fad: reverse running, also known as retro running. To hang trousers without beltloops, the organisational whizz brings one of the trouser legs through the coat hanger.
