Luis Gil will make the start for the Yankees on Thursday to open a series against the White Sox in Chicago. The Bombers need a sixth starter because of back-to-back rainouts over the weekend, and they are currently in the midst of a streak in which they play 23 games in 22 days. Gil made a big splash when he came up to the big leagues last season. He did not give up a run through his first three starts. He ended up making six emergency starts for the Yankees as they dealt with injuries, finishing with a 3.07 ERA. He struck out 38 over 29.1 innings pitched, but also walked 19. “The talent is obviously there. When he came up here last year, he pitched well for us, as we saw, pitching some important games for us,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s got off to a little bit of a slow start in AAA, but is coming off a really strong outing, probably his best outing. He’s built-up to a full starter load, so he’s at whatever you...
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will visit Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 15 in the first game on Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” package. The Week 2 matchup between AFC West rivals was announced on Thursday during the first round of the NFL draft. Amazon will pay $1 billion a season to carry the games for 11 years. Prime Video will carry 15 regular-season and one preseason game. They will be available on stations in the participating teams’ markets, which is the same practice when they are on ESPN and NFL Network. NBC has the opening game of the season and also Thanksgiving night. The final week of the regular season has two games on Saturday and the remaining 14 on Sunday. Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit will be the announcing team for the “Thursday Night Football” games. Michaels moves to Prime from NBC while Herbstreit will pull double duty. He will do NFL games for Prime and remain ESPN’s lead college football analyst. The league announced last week that the complete schedule will...
BOSTON (CBS) — The Patriots don’t have to wait long to try to win their fifth straight game. Coming off their best game of the season, the Patriots now get to visit the Atlanta Falcons on a short week. It will be Patriots-Falcons on Thursday Night Football this week, a tilt between a team that is red hot, and one that is just sorta playing things out. The Falcons are somewhat decent at 4-5 and they’ve won three of their last five. But they’re also coming off a 43-3 pounding by the Cowboys in Dallas. The Patriots haven’t lost a road game this season. The Falcons haven’t won a home game, with their lone “home” win coming in London. And even that carries a big asterisk, considering it came against the Jets. The Patriots will look to make it seven straight wins over the Falcons on Thursday night, a streak that includes New England’s epic comeback in Super Bowl LI. This will be the first time that the two teams face off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, though the Patriots have won...
BOSTON (CBS) — The Patriots have a short week to prepare for their Thursday night visit to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. But they may not have to deal with one of Atlanta’s most explosive players. That player is Cordarrelle Patterson, whom the Patriots and New England fans are familiar with after his do-it-all season with the Pats in 2018. Patterson was a receiving and rushing threat for the Patriots that season, and helped the team win its sixth Super Bowl in his only season in New England. READ MORE: Jakobi Meyers Gives Incredible Description For Himself And Gunner OlszewskiHe’s now double dipping for the Falcons, and is one of the most electric players in the NFL today. He has 39 receptions and five receiving touchdowns, while rushing for 303 yards and a pair of scores on the ground. Bill Belichick had loads of great things to say about Patterson’s playmaking abilities when chatting with reporters on Monday. “CP is capable of really, with the ball in his hands, pretty much anything on the field. He’s a tremendous player,”...
List of winners at CMA Awards, led by Stapleton, Combs Asian markets mixed following U.S. inflation report For back-to-back weeks, "Thursday Night Football" is treating fans to a matchup of AFC teams. The Week 10 matchup is similar to that of Week 9, as the two teams playing appear to be heading in opposite directions. The visiting squad for the Week 10 "Thursday Night Football" game is on a crash course with a playoff berth. They are currently leading the AFC North and have posted a 6-2 record at this early stage in the season. They have survived a few late-game scares, including three overtime games and a close clash with the Lions, but behind Lamar Jackson, they figure to be one of the top teams in the parity-filled AFC. Their opponent isn't exactly in a similar situation. The Dolphins have struggled immensely this season and have just two wins. They beat the Patriots by a single point in Week 1, lost seven straight games and proceeded to beat the one-win Texans last week to earn their second victory. Brian...

The Thursday night game last week featured two of the best teams in the NFC. This week, we get two of the worst teams in the AFC. Of course, we’re going to watch anyway. But how should you bet the game? That leads today’s Winners Club. Jets vs. Colts PreviewAre you ready for Week 2 of the Mike White experience? The Jets’ backup quarterback made his first career start last week and knocked off the Bengals, the top seed in the AFC, to drag New York to 2-5. Meanwhile, the Colts (3-5) lost to the Titans last week for the second time this season. Indianapolis needs all the wins it can string together for any hope of catching division-leading Tennessee, who just lost star running back Derrick Henry. Our betting analysts Jen Piacenti and Frankie Taddeo each previewed the game and picked their favorite prop bets for the Carson Wentz-White showdown. Player Props and Touchdown...

The next big cyberthreat isnt ransomware. Its killware. And its just as bad as it sounds. Independence leader: Wall wont stop Western Sahara fight Just days before the Eagles play host to the Buccaneers for Thursday Night Football, Philadelphia has placed tight end Dallas Goedert on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced Tuesday. Because Goedert is vaccinated, he would need two negative tests before Thursday night to be eligible to play against Tampa Bay. Given the short window between now and kickoff, it would seem like an uphill battle for the tight end to suit up.  © Provided by CBS Sports PHILADELPHIA, PA - SEPTEMBER 19: Dallas Goedert #88 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on against the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field on September 19, 2021 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lil Nas X Reveals He Is Single and Focused on Music: Maybe Ill Kiss a Guy Every Blue Moon Asian markets mixed as investors weigh latest economic data On paper, the Week 4 "Thursday Night Football" matchup may not look too exciting. However, there is one predominant storyline that could add some extra excitement to this week's game. Per usual, it's the quarterbacks. More specifically, each of the quarterbacks in this matchup was the No. 1 overall pick in their respective draft classes. They also played against one another in college, and both are surrounded by quality offensive weapons in Cincinnati and Jacksonville respectively. That's what will make this meeting between the Bengals and the Jaguars so exciting. Both sides have the weaponry needed to make some noise on offense; now, the quarterbacks just have to take advantage of it. The league is beginning its season with its usual Thursday night football season opener, and the NFL is having the reigning Super Bowl champions host the contest for the second straight year after departing from that tradition for its 100th season. The Buccaneers will have a chance to host a game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. on Thursday. The Bucs became the first team to win a Super Bowl on home soil back in February, so the return to their home stadium will be extra sweet. As the Bucs unveil their banner, they will look to start the season with a win — something they couldn't do last year. They will have to take down a quality NFC offense that is coming off a down year but is fully healthy coming into 2021. It should be a high-powered evening for the offense. Below is everything to...
More On: new york rangers Rangers defense hit with another injury Rangers shakeup coming after season-crushing no-show Rangers manhandled in big blow to playoff hopes Rangers won’t be happy without a playoff berth The Rangers used words like disappointing and demoralizing after a 4-0 home loss to the Islanders on Thursday night severely damaged whatever remained of their playoff hopes. They could have inched within one point of the Islanders with back-to-back victories, including Saturday’s follow-up at the Coliseum, but they instead now trail their clearly better Long Island neighbors by seven points. The Blueshirts also trail the Bruins, who have played two fewer games, by six points with just five to play, albeit with their final two in Boston next week. What is that famous hockey quote about believing in miracles? “Sometimes these losses are tough, but you’ve got to flush it, come out and practice hard, and get yourself back and ready,” defenseman Brendan Smith said after practice Friday. “Everybody is professional here, and we’re in the business of winning, so we’re going to go out there...
The NFL is reportedly on the verge giving near-exclusive Thursday Night Football rights to Amazon Prime in a deal that could be worth up to $1 billion annually. Neither the league nor the streaming service are commenting publicly on any negotiations. The Wall Street Journal reported the impending NFL-Amazon deal on Wednesday, although rumors of an enhanced partnership between the two parties have been circulating for some time. Amazon pays between $75 million and $100 million to stream Thursday games, according to the Wall Street Journal, but that deal is not exclusive and the games are simulcast on Fox and NFL Network. In the proposed deal, Amazon Prime's Thursday night games would not be seen on broadcast television outside of the local markets of the teams that are playing. ABC Clare Crawley poses with the season 16 contestants on 'The Bachelorette.' Today is Election Day. Bachelor Nation is among the millions of Americans who have advance voted or are preparing to go to their polling place. While a typical season airs on Monday, the production delays amid the COVID-19 pandemic have caused The Bachelorette to air on Tuesdays this season and thus created a scheduling conflict. For this week only, viewers will have to tune in on Thursday to see how Clare Crawley’s journey in the dating franchise continues. “Hey, Bachelor Nation. When I said this was the most dramatic season ever, I wasn’t lying,” said Host Chris Harrison in a promo. “The Bachelorette is on Thursday this week and believe me when I say you don’t want to miss this one.” Week 4 Sneak Peek: Clare Blows Up 'The Bachelorette' – The BacheloretteAs the drama heats up around Dale and Bachelorette Clare Crawley, the rest of the guys are feeling left out. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs will be without offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele and wide receiver Sammy Watkins when they visit the Buffalo Bills on Monday night for a game that was pushed back because of COVID-19 protocols. Osmele tore tendons in both of his knees and Watkins hurt his hamstring during Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, which also ended the Chiefs’ franchise-record 13-game win streak. Mike Remmers finished the game at guard and will get the start in Buffalo, coach Andy Reid said Thursday, and Mecole Hardman will take most of the snaps in Watkins’s place. “I’m prepared,” Hardman said. “I did it last year when Tyreek (Hill) went down and Sammy went down one time, too. I’m prepared for the challenge. It’s nothing I can’t handle. I’m practicing hard, doing what I can do. Just see what Coach Reid has in store for me, what they want me to do, and just do it the best I can.” Osemele is likely to have season-ending surgery, though it has not yet taken place. Watkins could miss...
Getty OL James Daniels of the Chicago Bears The Chicago Bears just lost a core member of their offensive line for the rest of the year. Per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, center James Daniels will miss the rest of the season after tearing his pectoral muscle in Thursday night’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. An MRI confirmed #Bears LG James Daniels suffered a torn pec last night and he’s done for the season, per source. — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) October 9, 2020 Daniels had been off to a solid start this season, and was arguably the best part of the Bears’ offensive line through five games. Now, they have a big hole to fill before playing the Carolina Panthers in 10 days. As of now, it’s unclear whether it will be Rashaad Coward or Alex Bars filling in for Daniels. Bars struggled in limited action against the Bucs defensive front after coming in to replace Daniels Thursday. READ NEXT: Bears LB Khalil Mack Shares His Thoughts on QB Nick Foles For the First Time
Tom Brady’s arrival in Florida in the offseason was met with much fanfare. He signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers worth almost $60 million (including bonuses). Tom Brady is expected to lead the Bucs to the playoffs this season. With a 3-1 record, the Florida-based outfit is on-track to make it to the post-season. On the other hand, Nick Foles joined Matt Nagy’s Chicago Bears in a trade deal from Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this year. He started the season as the back-up behind youngster Mitchell Trubisky. However, Nagy announced that Foles would start in Week Four after an impressive display against Atlanta Falcons the week before. Foles underperformed last weekend as the Bears lost to the Indianapolis Colts. Now, Brady and Foles will set a new NFL record when they start for their respective teams on Thursday night. For once, the Denver Broncos weren't predictable. The squad is excellent at humiliating itself on national television, so a fourth consecutive loss during the October 1 Thursday Night Football matchup against the woeful New York Jets seemed predestined, particularly given that the starting quarterback was Brett Rypien, an undrafted Boise State alum whose main claim to fame is being the nephew of Super Bowl-winning Washington standout Mark Rypien. Somehow, though, Denver managed to come out on top of a 37-28 score, likely guaranteeing the pink slipping of Jets head coach and ex-Broncos assistant Adam Gase. But even though the 0-4 Jets appear to be the worst team in the NFL right now, Mile High City diehards unwilling to give up on a season that already seems doomed responded to the victory on Twitter by debating who the outfit's QB going forward should be: Rypien; backup Jeff Driskel, whom the Boise boy replaced; newly signed veteran and The Good Place punchline Blake Bortles; or supposed future-of-the-franchise Drew Lock, who recover from his latest injury within a few weeks. If this seems a bit...
