Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer torched what he called “MAGA Republicans” and Fox News over the spread of the racist “replacement theory” that the Buffalo mass shooter claimed as his inspiration. During Thursday’s Senate session, Schumer opened his remarks by describing the terrifying raxcist attack by an 18-year-old white man named Payton Gendron that claimed the lives of ten people. Leader Schumer explained the racist “replacement theory” that apparently motivated the attack, and called out “MAGA Republicans” and others who promote it — not always explicitly: Every time MAGA Republicans or pundits vilify wrongly immigrants and call them invaders… Every time they falsely claim that millions of undocumented people cast ballots in our elections… Every time loud bigoted voices bemoan the disintegration of an imagined “classic” America… The subtext is clear: these hard-right MAGA Republicans argue that people of color and minority communities are somehow posing a threat — a threat — to the American way of life. Schumer then zeroed in on Fox News and their top-rated host, Tucker Carlson, who have faced stiff criticism for their long record...

Chuck Schumer will try to overcome a Republican filibuster Wednesday in an attempt to codify Roe v. Wade into law, but the Democratic Senate leader doesn't have the votes needed to make the landmark abortion case federal law. The attempt comes after Democrats tried to get the same bill through in February, but the measure has more urgency now that a Supreme Court leak shows a draft opinion that would overturn 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that made abortion constitutionally protected. While Democrats try to invoke culture on the Women's Health Protection Act and stop a GOP filibuster – three senators will be able to stop that effort and prevent the bill from going for a full floor vote. Moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia will not support a cloture vote and already went against his party on the same abortion bill earlier this year. Democrats were hoping to sway Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, both pro-choice, to vote with them to make up for Manchin's defecting. But it's unlikely that either,...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was a hypocrite for voicing concerns his members could incite violence on a private call, while bemoaning safety measures Democrats have put in place. 'It was interesting to me that the leader talked about the concern that he had … about his members causing danger here and at the same time complaining that we had magnetometers to keep guns off the floor of the House,' Pelosi said during her weekly press conference on Friday.  Earlier this week, The New York Times released audio clips from a January 10, 2021 call where McCarthy is heard discussing with House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and Rep. Liz Cheney, among others, rhetoric from certain Republican members that concerned him in the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol attack.  'Tension is too high, the country is too crazy,' McCarthy warned on the January 10 call. 'I do not want to look back and think we caused something or we missed something and someone got hurt. I don't want to play politics with any of that.'  House...
