    BRUSH, Colo. (CBS4)– Police in Brush are investigating a member of the school administrative staff at the Brush School District. The person is suspected of having child pornography. Officers made the discovery during a sexting investigation among students. The administrator is accused of collecting images while the school staff was conducting their own in-house investigation. Brush police are asking that any potential victims come forward.
    WESTFORD (CBS) — A series of fires in Westford have first responders in the town looking to see if someone is behind them. The Westford police department says four fires have been set near the Stony Brook Conservation in the past few weeks. That’s when, according to the fire department, 16 acres of land was burned overnight.     Police officers are being recognized after rescuing a tow truck driver who passed out while he was working in Manchester, New Jersey. Last week, a car wreck occurred near Route 571 and Beacon Street and when officials arrived at the scene to investigate, an employee with Freedom Towing began clearing the vehicles from the roadway and picking up debris, Jersey Shore Online reported Wednesday. However, when the 61-year-old tow truck driver, named John Macchia, collapsed in the roadway, officers immediately rushed to his aid. In a social media post, the Manchester Police department referred to the man’s medical emergency as a “cardiac episode.” Patrolman Michael Steffen, Patrolman Kyle Rickvalsky, Patrolman Brendan Brush, and Patrolman Julian Meaney realized Macchia was not breathing and had no pulse. The patrolmen “immediately performed life saving measures to include CPR and the utilization of an Automated External Defibrillator, ultimately saving his life,” the department said. CPR, also known as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is used when a person’s heart stops beating, and according to the American Heart Association, can greatly increase the individual’s chances of survival.     Authorities turned to the public for help investigating a suspicious brush fire that broke out in Ridgewood over the weekend. The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected valuable evidence from the area on Crest Road known as "The View" after village firefighters doused the blaze around 8 p.m. Sunday, Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said.Luthcke's detectives are working with their counterparts from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Arson Squad, Luthcke said Monday.     A brush fire broke out on the Jersey Shore, according to developing and unconfirmed reports. The fire was reported early Wednesday afternoon at Gull Island County Park, Point Pleasant Beach, initial reports said. A fireboat was requested from Manasquan, and firefighters and State Police reportedly were battling the fire on the mainland, according to an unconfirmed report.  New Jersey State Police and Point Pleasant police were not immediately available for comment.     SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) — Fire crews in the North Bay were at the scene of a brush fire burning Santa Rosa early Tuesday evening, according to authorities. An alert issued by the Santa Rosa Fire Department stated multiple fire agencies had responded to the vegetation fire in the area of Llano Road and Todd Road.     Police are asking for the public's help to identify an arson suspect who started a brush fire near a Long Island park. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Southampton Town Police detectives said the fire was started around 4:25 p.m., Friday, May 7 in a wooded area just west of the baseball fields in Iron Point Park, near Wood Road Trail in Flanders. Multiple agencies responded to the fire which burned a large area.  Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.  Anyone with information about the incident can contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers to submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS.  All calls will be kept confidential.

    MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A weekend grass fire in central Minnesota started when a woman was cooking maple syrup in her yard, authorities say. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said it first learned of the fire around 12:40 p.m. Saturday. A caller said the pasture behind a home on the 20100 block of County Road 156 in Albany Township was ablaze and the fire was heading for nearby homes. The Albany and Avon fire departments responded and extinguished the fire. Authorities determined the 41-year-old homeowner started the fire in a fire pit as part of the syrup-making process.     BRUSH, Colo. (CBS4) — A pair of Wendy’s employees were arrested after they were dismissed from the restaurant’s employment Wednesday evening. Kobi Johnson, 26, of Brush, and Mariah Loma, 25, of Wiggins were taken into custody separately. He physically engaged several employees. Other employees were prevented from calling 9-1-1 by Loma, as described by the department. Johnson left before law enforcement arrived at the restaurant. As police searched for him at a different location, Johnson returned to the restaurant, physically assaulted an employee, and used his vehicle to ram a manager’s vehicle in the parking lot.     IRVING, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The body of a man was found in a brush area near a golf course in Irving on Saturday afternoon, police say. Police say they responded to an area near Twin Wells golf course after receiving a call from people who were canoeing, saying they had spotted a body. According to police, the body was stuck in a tree/brush area. With the help of a police helicopter, crews were able to locate the body and remove it. An identity has not yet been released as police continue to investigate.

    A 47-year-old drunken driver is facing multiple charges for a crash that downed a utility pole, started a brush fire and caused a power massive power outage over the weekend in Toms River, authorities said. Wilfredo Flores was negotiating a curve when he answered a call on his cell phone, swerved off the roadway to the right and hit a curb at Bay Avenue and Tanglewood Road around 8 p.m. Jan. 17, Toms River police said. The impact split the pole in half and subsequently damaged a second pole due to excessive wire tension, police said. Flores fled eastbound but was soon stopped by a concerned citizen, Toms River police said. Several neighborhoods on the east side of town were without power overnight while Verizon and JCP&L worked to repair the damaged poles, according to police.  The downed poles ignited two brush fires that were quickly extinguished by Toms River Fire Companies 1 and 2.  Traffic lights were out between Vaughn Avenue and Indian Hill, along Bay Avenue as a result of the accident.     A man is being charged for setting three brush fires in late September. Henry P. Dextraze, 66, of New Hampshire, but formerly of Leominster, is believed to have inadvertently started three fires within days of each other this fall, according to the Sentinel and Enterprise. The fires happened on Sept. 20, 22, and 24 with the first two being small and in the Leominster State Forest around Elm Street. The last fire on Sept. 24 lit up an area of Mt. Elam Road in the state forest and went on to consume 3.4 acres in flames. It took firefighters two days to extinguish the fire. Dextraze allegedly told police that he went hiking with a friend on the 22 and lit a campfire, but properly extinguished it. Inconsistencies were noticed in Dextraze’s account of the fires. For example, he said he never saw any firefighters or equipment battling the Elm Street fire, but there are photos of his van at the scene.     Police grabbed a suspect connected to one of 2020’s Milford brush fires. On Sunday, Dec. 13, Milford Police arrested a Stratford woman on an active warrant. Colleen Gallagher, 49, of Stratford, was taken into police custody around 9:20 p.m. Sunday. Gallagher allegedly set the brush fire at Walnut Beach in January this year, police said. Gallagher has been charged with reckless burning, criminal mischief in the third degree, and breach of peace in the second degree, police said. A court date has been scheduled for Gallagher, Jan. 18, 2021.

    Motorists should expect delays in the area of Old Route 17 in Rockland County due to a large brush fire. The fire, which was first detected late on Sunday, Nov. 8, continued to burn early Monday, Nov. 9, by the bus garage in Hillburn, Ramapo Police said. Police said traffic is congested due to a heavy fire department presence in that area as they battle the blaze.
