Former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt, who left the agency as he was under investigation by several federal agencies for questionable expenditures, released his first Senate campaign advertisement, claiming he was "canceled" by the media. Pruitt held the EPA head role under former President Donald Trump from February 2017 to July 2018 and resigned amid investigations into his alleged spending abuses of taxpayer dollars. Now, Pruitt is seeking to run for Senate to succeed retiring Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) in a crowded Republican primary race. "Winston Churchill said, 'You got enemies? Good. That means you stood up for something,'" Pruitt said in a new campaign video released Thursday. "As a member of President Trump's Cabinet, I had enemies — New York Times, Washington Post. They think they canceled me. But guess what? I'm back." It is time that someone stands up to @JoeBiden, and stops him from undoing all the progress we made under @POTUS45 . Well guess what? I am back. This is why I am running for United States Senate. Join me in my mission to save...
Trump-era EPA administrator Scott Pruitt is now running for Senate in Oklahoma, to take over the seat vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Jim Inhofe.  Pruitt, 53, officially filed to run on Friday. He previously served as state senator and Oklahoma attorney general.  Pruitt stepped down from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2018 amid a wave of ethics scandals. He had faced heat for staying in a bargain $50-per-night condo in Capitol Hill owned by the wife of a prominent energy lobbyist when he was in Washington, D.C.  Pruitt now faces a crowded GOP primary to replace Inhofe, 87, which includes Rep. Markwayne Mullin, former Speaker of the Oklahoma House T.W. Shannon, Inhofe's longtime Chief of Staff Luke Holland, state Sen. Nathan Dahm and Alex Gray, former chief of staff of the National Security Council under Trump. That means two former Trump officials could be vying for the former president's endorsement.   In another of a litany of scandals that swirled around Pruitt, aides say Pruitt asked them to help his wife find a job that would net her a salary...

Fifty years later, fans of all ages still ask Johnny Rodgers about that electrifying play. They want a first-person account of the bobbing, weaving, 72-yard punt return for a touchdown that helped Rodgers and No. 1 Nebraska beat No. 2 Oklahoma 35-31 in Norman on Thanksgiving Day back in 1971. After all, it was the signature highlight of the “Game of the Century” — the best of the best in a rare game that lived up to that billing. Rodgers, now 70, still lives on the north side of his hometown, Omaha, Nebraska. He is humbled that the play — and the game — resonate after all these years. “It just means volumes that it’s been such a long period of time that has passed by, and people still give you credit for things that you’ve done in the past that have stood the test of time,” Rodgers told The Associated Press. Many connect the punt return to the radio call by then-KFAB play-by-play man Lyell Bremser — “Holy moly! Man, woman and child, did that put ‘em in the...
The Associated Press (AP) named Daisy Veerasingham, the outlet’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, as its new president and CEO, The AP announced Tuesday. Veerasingham, 51, will take over for 64-year-old Gary Pruitt at the end of this year, The AP said in its announcement. She will be the 14th leader in the outlet’s 175-year history. “In Daisy Veerasingham we have chosen a proven leader with a deep understanding of how AP operates and a clear vision for the future,” AP Board of Directors chairman Steven R. Swartz said in a statement. “She appreciates the crucial role AP plays in providing journalism and services that are indispensable to the news industry.” (RELATED: AP, Reuters Sign Deal To Help Twitter Decide What’s True) Daisy Veerasingham named president and CEO of The Associated Press: https://t.co/s0K0Q2bOKT pic.twitter.com/HInrIVIc0B — AP CorpComm (@AP_CorpComm) August 3, 2021 Swartz praised Pruitt for diversifying the company’s revenue sources, strengthening its financial position, and supporting journalist safety and freedom of expression. NEW YORK (AP) — The Associated Press appointed Daisy Veerasingham as president and CEO on Tuesday, putting her in line to be the first woman, first person of color and first person from outside of the United States to lead the AP in its 175-year history. Currently the news cooperative’s chief revenue officer, Veerasingham will replace the retiring Gary Pruitt at the beginning of next year. Veerasingham, 51, is a first-generation Briton of Sri Lankan descent. Her appointment speaks to the changing portrait of the AP, where 40% of the company’s revenue, double what it was 15 years ago, is now generated outside of the United States. She’ll be tasked with continuing to diversify income sources. The AP, caught in the same financial vise as most of the media industry, saw its revenue drop to $467 million in 2020, down more than 25% in a decade. Veerasingham said she’s determined to maintain the AP as a source of fact-based, nonpartisan journalism, and to fight for freedom of the press and access to information. The AP produces roughly 2,000 news stories,...
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee kicker Brent Cimaglia has opted out of the Volunteers’ final two games of the season, citing injuries and a need to focus on his mental well-being. Cimaglia said in a post on social media Monday that took him some time to come to that conclusion. “However my focus is to work on my mental well-being and physical health,” Cimaglia wrote. “Due to many hardships and struggles within the program, it is in my best interest to take this additional time to rehabilitate ongoing injuries. I look forward to giving my best in the future.” Cimaglia made 85.1% of his kicks last season. This season the senior is just 5-of-9 on field goals and missed an extra point in Saturday’s 31-19 loss to No. 6 Florida, his first miss after 88 made extra points. Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt said he talked with Cimaglia, who has played through “difficult circumstances” this season. Pruitt said Cimaglia also indicated he will come back next season with this season not counting against player eligibility. “He feels...
In his third season at Florida coach Dan Mullen has the Gators a win away from the Southeastern Conference championship game for the first time since 2016. Sixth-ranked Florida can clinch the East by beating Tennessee on Saturday, something they’ve done 14 of the last 15 games in this series. “This is the game to clinch the East, this is the game to assert our dominance and tell everybody we’re going to the SEC championship, and yeah, I think everybody’s pretty excited,” Florida linebacker James Houston said. “I don’t think too many people need motivation for this game. We all know what’s at stake.” Mullen has Florida (7-1, No. 6 CFP) clicking with five straight victories and one of the nation’s best offenses led by a Heisman Trophy favorite in Kyle Trask. The quarterback was a freshman the last time Florida played for the SEC title, and winning the SEC East has been these Gators’ first of many goals this season. “We have a chance to do that on Saturday,” Trask said. “We’ll definitely be playing...
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas coach Sam Pittman developed a friendship with Tennessee assistant Jim Chaney well before they landed on SEC coaching staffs. It will get put on hold when Arkansas (2-3) hosts the Volunteers (2-3) on Saturday. “I talk to Jim once a week, but I have not spoken with him this week,” Pittman said. “Not that it matters. He’s not going to tell me anything, and I’m not going to tell him anything.” Arkansas’ first-year coach recalled how he and Chaney both signed to play football at Central Missouri State out of high school. Chaney was from Holton, Missouri, and Pittman was from Grove, Oklahoma. Pittman never made it to Central Missouri; he signed with Pittsburg State in Kansas, a school much closer to his hometown. Pittman said he and Chaney later connected on the recruiting trail, and their friendship has lasted through numerous coaching stops. They have coached together on three separate staffs, including Arkansas. Now, both are with teams that need a boost. Tennessee is coming off three straight losses. The Vols, who were...

Jordan Pruitt is a new mommy. The 29-year-old former Disney star and her husband Brian Fuente, 37, told Fox News on Thursday that they’ve finally welcomed a baby girl. “She came a few weeks early, but we are over the moon in love,” Pruitt said of her new bundle of joy whom they named Olivia West Fuente. “We’re so in love! Never in my life did I think I could feel this kind of love before.” Former Disney star Jordan Pruitt welcomed daughter Olivia West Fuente on Sept. 24, 2020. (Courtesy of Jordan Pruitt) Pruitt -- who spoke to Fox News at length in June 2019 about her allegations that she was sexually assaulted by an ex-manager while working as a teenager in the music business -- called her pregnancy experience “truly special” and quipped that even though Olivia was delivered via emergency C-section, “My hubby and I are already talking about a number two.” “We are nuts!” added Pruitt.
