By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — Through two games in Carolina, things haven’t looked too great for the Bruins. The outlook isn’t any prettier. At least, not if history is the guide. Obviously, taking a 2-0 series lead is rather advantageous for the team leading, but the extent to which that has proven to be a death sentence for the losing team may surprise you. In the history of every seven-game series in the NHL, when the home team wins the first two games to take a 2-0 lead, that team has gone on to win the series 88.7 percent of the time. Some amateur mathematics would indicate that historical results currently give the Bruins an 11.3 percent chance of winning this series. However, quite a bit obviously hinges on Friday night’s Game 3. When the team leading 2-0 wins Game 3 on the road, that team has won the series 97.9 percent of the time. They are 141-3 in those scenarios, and a Game 7 has only been forced six times. For that matter, a Game 6 has...

The Chicago Bulls returned to the United Center for their first playoff game in five years with home-court advantage and the momentum of a road win at their back. But they limped out of Game 3 with a 111-81 beatdown as the Milwaukee Bucks bounced back like a reigning NBA champion to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series. Bulls fans poured into the United Center with frenetic excitement, drowning out the team’s introduction videos. But that enthusiasm dulled in the first quarter of the blowout. By the time Patrick Williams threw away a turnover in the third quarter, scattered boos began to swell from the crowd. The 30-point drubbing was the second-worst loss in franchise history behind a 115-78 defeat to the Miami Heat in the 2013 Eastern Conference semifinals. The Bucks ripped off a 13-0 run in the second quarter to cement a 19-point halftime lead, then went on a 13-0 run in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 29 points. DeMar DeRozan fell flat on the heels of a postseason-career-high 41-point performance in Game...
The Chicago Bulls knew what was coming when they exited the Fiserv Forum locker room for the second half of Game 2. With a 63-49 lead in their pocket, the Bulls were more confident than they’d been in a game in weeks. But a double-digit lead only means so much when two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is staring you down from across the court. So the Bulls knew what needed to happen to withstand the oncoming flurry from the Bucks — bend, but don’t break. “We talked about it at halftime, not coming out of the second half lackadaisical,” DeMar DeRozan said. “We were ready for it. We had a lot of games this year where we came out in the third quarter and laid an egg. This time around we were just trying to understand the moment.” The next two quarters devolved into a dogfight between the both team’s stars. Khris Middleton sank four 3-pointers in the third quarter. Antetokounmpo leapt between Bulls players to rebound a missed free throw and jam it into the basket to cut the lead...

DeMar DeRozan is a man of his word. He proved that to Chicago Bulls fans Wednesday night, devouring the Milwaukee Bucks defense in the second half to cement a 114-110 win that evened the first-round playoff series at a game apiece. The Bulls star didn’t disguise his frustration after Game 1, promising he wouldn’t repeat his 6-of-25 shooting performance. DeRozan spent Tuesday night on the Fiserv Forum court, putting up shots to regain the rhythm lacking in the opening loss. In his trademark style, DeRozan delivered when it mattered. He went 6-for-9 in the third quarter to hold off a furious Bucks comeback, weaving and sidestepping through the midrange to match blows with Giannis Antetokounmpo. And after the Bucks carved the lead to three points with 56.4 seconds to play, DeRozan was there to counter — charging the rim to score the clinching basket with 18.2 seconds left. DeRozan finished with 41 points, his highest-scoring playoff performance to join a list of career highs recorded in his 13th NBA season. He led the Bulls to their first win of the...
A sense of dread accompanied the Chicago Bulls up Interstate 94 for their first postseason game in five years. No one was giving them a shot in their first-round series with the Milwaukee Bucks. Even the most optimistic Bulls fans were just hoping to see a few good games before heading into the offseason and turning their attention to the baseball season. Changing the narrative in Game 1 against the Bucks was seemingly imperative if the Bulls wanted to make this a competitive series. But when Giannis Antetokounmpo hit a 3-pointer a minute and a half into the game to give the Bucks a quick 9-0 lead, it seemed like the game was decided before the first State Farm commercial There was no need for any spoiler alerts. We’d all seen this movie before. But a funny thing happened on the way to a blowout at the Fiserv Forum. The Bulls bounced back from a 16-point deficit to make it a game, only to watch the Bucks hold on for a 93-86 win. Nikola Vučević’s 24 points and 17 rebounds...

Alexandra Daddario is set to lead a spooky new series at AMC. Based on Anne Rice’s The Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy of novels, Mayfair Witches tells the story of Rowan, a gifted neurosurgeon descended from a long line of powerful witches. But don’t expect any broomsticks or pointed black hats in this witchy adaptation. If it’s anything like the source material, Mayfair Witches will not be for the faint of heart, embracing, uh, dark topics such as necrophilia, incest, and demonism. Daddario will take on the part of Rowan. The casting news comes after Daddario’s turn as a hopeful, WASP-y newlywed in HBO’s hit ensemble series The White Lotus. She has also appeared on shows like The Girlfriend Experience and True Detective, and is best known on the big screen for her roles in 2017’s Baywatch and the Percy Jackson YA fantasy series. “Alexandra is a singular talent who has lit up the screen in everything she’s been in and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board leading the cast of a series that will...
