D.C. police and the Secret Service have arrested a teenager in connection with a bomb threat at Dunbar High School in February, which happened when second gentleman Doug Emhoff was visiting the school. A 17-year-old girl has been arrested, D.C. police said Wednesday, and the investigation is ongoing. Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, was whisked on Feb. 8 by Secret Service agents during an event to commemorate Black History Month in the school’s new museum. The threat at the high school was made during a time when historically Black colleges and universities nationwide, including Howard University in the District, were targeted with bomb threats that resulted in school closures and class cancellations. At the time, Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict said it did not appear that the bomb threat made at Dunbar High School was related to the threats made to HBCUs. More Local News More DC News

A teenager who liked some 'sad quotes' on Instagram while feeling down over being bullied has revealed how easy it was to become sucked into suicide and self-harm groups.   Former Instagram staffers and some of the app's early creators have lifted the lid on how the platform uses algorithms to lure in users in revealing new BBC documentary, The Instagram Effect. The documentary emphasises Instagram's shift from a chronological feed to one controlled by algorithms, which took place in 2016 - meaning users' experience and behaviour on the platform was altered.  It tells the story of 17-year-old Abby, a British teenager who fell into the dark world of extreme online self-harm groups when she left school because she was being bullied.  After joining the group, Abby was taught methods of suicide, was encouraged to self-harm during video calls with other young Instagram users, and was hospitalised after attempts on her life.  Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen claims in the show that teenagers are 'killing themselves' because of Instagram.  Abby, 17, from Newcastle, fell into the dark world of extreme online self-harm groups...
Among the three attorneys representing the teenager was Caleb Kershner, a member of Loudoun County’s Board of Supervisors. Kershner argued that the teen had been “cheated” by the “failure of the system," but said that he was remorseful. “We are setting him up for failure,” Kershner claimed. “We’ve never concentrated on [the boy] — we’re not even giving this young man a chance.” Judge Brooks said that she had simply made a mistake in her prior ruling. “This court made an error in my initial ruling," said Brooks. "The court is not vain enough to think it’s perfect, but I want to get it right.”Here's more about the controversial Loudoun case: Loudoun County teenager sentenced for 2 sex assaults, must register as sex offender | FOX 5 DC www.youtube.com

Throughout days of unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after the police shooting of Jacob Blake last year, residents were subjected to loud noises, hostile crowds, tear gas, and mass property damage. But out of the hundreds of people who took to the streets, Kyle Rittenhouse is the only one who killed anyone, prosecutors said at the start of the teenager’s murder trial on Tuesday. Rittenhouse, 18, is facing several charges, including first-degree reckless homicide, after killing two people and injuring a third on Aug. 25, 2020. Prosecutors have alleged that the then-17-year-old amounts to a “teenage vigilante” who traveled from Illinois to Kenosha with an AR-15 to meet other armed people who styled themselves guardians of local business. During the protest, which defied a citywide curfew, Rittenhouse was caught on camera clashing with activists near a car dealership, where he fatally shot 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum. The incident spurred others at the scene to pursue the teenager and grab his gun in a dispute that ended with Rittenhouse fatally shooting 26-year-old Anthony Huber and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz, now 27. If convicted, the...
