For the first time in too long — maybe weeks, maybe a month — the Chicago Bulls took complete control of a game. Monday night’s 113-99 win over the Toronto Raptors at the United Center couldn’t have come at a more necessary, even desperate time. After weeks of blowout losses and scattered grind-it-out wins, the Bulls were crumbling in confidence and in the Eastern Conference standings. But they won Monday in their style on their home court. The victory ended a three-game losing streak, but more importantly, it proved the Bulls’ winning formula from early in the season still has the same bite. “There was times in all these games … we’ve had moments we played really, really good basketball, but it’s just not sustained for a long enough period of time,” coach Billy Donovan said. “We had these moments and these lapses that really hurt us. But tonight, from start to finish, we played to an identity.” The win served as a welcome-back party for forward Patrick Williams, who played his first game in almost five months after wrist...
Getty Images Jayson Tatum of the Celtics looks on during the first quarter of the preseason game against the Orlando Magic at TD Garden In contrast to their Eastern Conference counterparts, the Boston Celtics have a lot to prove in 2021-22. The champion Milwaukee Bucks, led by back-to-back MVP (2019, 2020) and 2021 Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo sits atop of the East’s throne. Kyrie Irving’s vaccination status remains uncertain and with that so does the chance we see the Brooklyn Nets retain its two-seed of last year. The latest Celtics news straight to your inbox! However, having arguably the best player in Kevin Durant along with superstar James Harden and a supporting cast gives the Nets the benefit of the doubt that they will finish with a better record than the Celtics. LAS VEGAS (CBS) — Two Bulls players are making the most of their offseason – with Zach LaVine going for a gold medal. LaVine is getting his first shot at the Olympics. This is a chance of a lifetime that LaVine knows will only be making him better when he returns to Chicago. “I was really ecstatic to be selected and have the opportunity to come out here and compete for your country. Learning from these guys, you know, we’re all at the top of our game – and to be able to come here and collaborate and soak it up – compete with these guys each day, you know, you can’t do anything but get better, so you just try to do what you can to help the...
Getty Zach LaVine The trade and free-agent signing concepts aren’t going to stop when it comes to the Chicago Bulls. The team’s management group has put it into win-now mode thanks to a trade that brought Nikola Vucevic, but cost Chicago a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft as well. Chicago has a budding superstar in Zach LaVine heading into the final year of his contract, Vucevic, and a young prospect in Patrick Williams whom the fanbase is trusting to take a major step next season. Does it sound like there is a lot of pressure in the United Center? It’s because there is, but ESPN analyst Jay Williams (h/t FanSided’s Daniel Greenberg) would love to see LaVine get some assistance in the form of Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard. Greenberg tweeted Williams’ quote: “I would love to see Damian Lillard and Zach Lavine in Chicago. One of the most lethal backcourts that can ever exist. Put these dudes together.” It is safe to say, Williams would have some company on this train of thought if...
Getty Patrick Williams shoots the ball over Brook Lopez during an April 30 game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Nothing about the Chicago Bulls 2020-2021 season went as planned, and it’s left them in a somewhat grey area walking into the offseason trade market and free agency. With both Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine in-house, it’s unclear whether they’ll opt to go all-in on another trade or play out the season with the current roster makeup. If they do go the route of trading for another star, say Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard for example, fans feel strongly about including rookie forward Patrick Williams in any deal. The fourth overall pick in last year’s draft averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game for Chicago this season. The latest Bulls news straight to your inbox! Getty Thaddeus Young (left) and Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls Thaddeus Young has played 14 seasons in the NBA. In that time, eight of those seasons included postseason play. But none of his playoff experience has come during his tenure with the Chicago Bulls. This season, the Bulls came close to making the playoffs but finished two games out of play-in contention in a competitive Eastern Conference. During an appearance on the Road Trippin’ podcast, Young said there are “no excuses” for this season’s outcome. “You take everything out of your hands when you don’t win games,” Young explained of his team, which completed the regular season with a 31-41 record. “I think that was the toughest part. We had the pieces. We had the team that can actually go out there and win. It’s just a matter of us gelling together.” Despite missing the playoffs, Young still spoke highly of his team — notably two of his teammates. The latest Bulls news straight to your inbox! In the middle of a four-game losing streak, the Chicago Bulls are losing Zach LaVine for 10 to 14 days as he enters the league’s health and safety protocols. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was first with reports on Thursday afternoon of LaVine’s indefinite absence: Chicago Bulls All-Star Zach LaVine is expected to miss several games after entering into the league's health and safety protocol, sources tell ESPN. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 15, 2021 LaVine is having a career season in year seventh, and just his fourth campaign with the Bulls. The first-time All-Star is averaging 27.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. As is always the case with injuries, a door will now be opened for someone else to step up, and help to fill his role in a rare opportunity at shot volume and defensive responsibility. But who will it be for Chicago? There’s an argument for rookie forward Patrick Williams, who’s struggled as of...

Getty Patrick Williams has been asked to be more aggressive shooting this season. Chicago Bulls rookie Patrick is as mild-mannered as they come with a cerebral attentiveness to the game. Lebron James was impressed by his focus while lined up against him. He’s laser-sharp on trying to get better and better, James said after their Jan. 8 matchup. “Didn’t say much at all… He stays sharp on the game plan and I think he’s going to keep getting better and better… Chicago has a good one.” Williams has played well early in his rookie season considering there was barely an offseason to develop, however, it seems he’s reached the first hurdle of his young career: becoming more aggressive as a shooter. Norvell was an All-State Special Mention coming out of Simeon and regarded as a lefty sharpshooter. He landed at Gonzaga for his college basketball career where he was All-WCC First team in 2019. Getty Jay Williams thinks former Brooklyn Nets coach, Kenny Atkinson fits Chicago Bulls’ culture. “I think if I’m Chicago I go with Kenny,” Williams told me on Heavy Live With Scoop B. He really is. Was he the guy that’s going to win you championships here in Brooklyn? Maybe, but I’m not sure. But getting you where the Bulls are and where the Bulls need to be, I think he can do that with them. He’s a player’s coach too; which I think would be different for Zach LaVine and Coby [White] considering the way Jim Boylen ran things which was more like a college coach.” Jim Boylen accepted the Bulls’ coaching job in December 2018 and compiled a 39-84 record with the Bulls and didn’t make an appearance in the NBA Playoffs. During his tenure, Boylen often...
