A Washington man who was wanted for a road rage shooting held off sheriff’s deputies as his home burned in the early hours Thursday. The 41-year-old man was arrested after a standoff in which his house and car were destroyed by fire, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said. The man was the suspect in a road rage incident Sunday night on Interstate 5 north of Kelso, Washington. He had reportedly cut off another driver, causing a crash, and then, when both vehicles were stopped, pointed a handgun at the other car and fired shots. The victim in that attack — who was not injured — reportedly recognized the shooter, and the license plate of the man’s pickup matched the identification. For three days, deputies had unsuccessfully sought the suspect. At 11:41 p.m. Wednesday, 911 dispatchers received calls reporting the man had returned to his home northeast of Kelso and was firing a rifle outside. When deputies arrived, the man went into the home and detonated multiple explosives, believed to be fireworks mortars, the sheriff’s office said. He...

Newly-released footage has shown the moment officers shot dead a homeless black man after he allegedly reached for a deputy's gun, as his family say cops escalated the situation when they tackled him to the ground over an alleged jaywalking incident.  Kurt Reinhold, a 42-year-old father-of-two and former bodybuilder who had fallen on hard times, was shot dead on September 23 when Orange County Sheriff's Deputies Eduardo Duran and Jonathan Israel confronted him at a California intersection.  The footage, released by the Orange County Sheriff's Office Wednesday, includes dashcam video from the deputies' patrol car, security camera footage from a nearby motel and footage shot on a bystander's smartphone.   It provides new insight into the events surrounding Reinhold's death with the victim's family saying it proves the officers had 'no reason' to stop him. The dashcam video shows the two deputies appearing to sit in wait for Reinhold to jaywalk across the street before they then joke and have a minor disagreement about whether he had in fact illegally crossed the street and if it was necessary to confront him. The...
Eddie Johnson, the disgraced former Chicago Police Chief, had had the equivalent of ten drinks before he was found asleep at the wheel of his cop car last year by two of his subordinates who let him drive himself home afterwards despite fearing for his safety.  Johnson was fired last December for lying about the October 16 incident. It involved him going to Ceres Bar in Chicago with Cynthia Donald, his security guard and driver, where they were seen kissing repeatedly.  He then drove her back to police HQ and started to drive himself but didn't make it all the way before he stopped the car and fell asleep the wheel, leaving the vehicle running.  The incident and what happened afterwards have been under review for a year but on Friday - a day after Donald filed a lawsuit against Johnson alleging he'd sexually abused and harassed her - Chicago's Inspector General's Office released their report.  Seven cops were suspended over their handling of the incident.  Eddie Johnson was found asleep at the wheel of his car in October...

In the lawsuit, Vanessa claims, 'No fewer than 8 sheriff's deputies at the crash site pulled out their personal cell phones and snapped photos of the dead children, parents and coaches. The deputies took these photos for their own personal gratification.' The widow is claiming the photos and their distribution among officers caused her emotional distress, as she says the pictures were the subject of conversation that had no investigative purpose.  Vanessa is suing Sheriff Alex Villanueva, alleging he tried to cover it up by telling deputies they would not face repercussions if they deleted the photos and she is  now is fearful the photos will leak.  'Ms. Bryant feels ill at the thought of strangers gawking at images of her deceased husband and child, and she lives in fear that she or her children will one day confront horrific images of their loved ones online,' the suit states.  Vanessa...

I didn't think I would see anything as sickening this year as the appalling killing of George Floyd at the kneed of a callous police officer. But I was wrong. The grainy video of a disgusting coward sneaking up to shoot two deputy sheriffs in Compton, Los Angeles as they sat in their patrol car was just as repulsive and disturbing. There was no warning, and no provocation. This was just a deliberate, pre-meditated attempt at a cold-blooded execution. The shooter clearly intended to kill his targets as he fired a number of rounds from his pistol at point blank range into their car before running off. Fortunately, as I write this column, he appears to have failed in his mission as both deputies are reported to have miraculously survived the ambush, although they were seriously injured.  Video released by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department shows the moment that male suspect opened fire on two deputies at a Compton bus station The grainy video shows after shooting multiple rounds at the deputies, the man runs away We don't...

Police in Florida have released body camera footage in the fatal arrest of a black man who was shot and killed by a plainclothes deputy earlier this month after he claimed the 22-year-old drew a gun as he was running away. The attorneys representing the family of the slain man, Salaythis Melvin, however, say newly released footage of the incident contradicts the officer’s story and now plan to file a wrongful death lawsuit as their son posed 'no threat'. They also claim an officer called Melvin the 'n-word' while administering first aid to him as he lay on the ground fighting for his life.   Melvin was shot dead by Orange County Sheriff’s Office Agent James Montiel on August 7 outside the Florida Mall. Montiel was not wearing police uniform or a body camera at the time of the shooting. The fatal incident was however captured on a responding officer’s bodycam from a distance, which has now been released by the Sheriff’s department.
