Share this: We are criminologists who study the life histories of public mass shooters in the United States. Since 2017, we have conducted dozens of interviews with incarcerated perpetrators and people who knew them. We also built a comprehensive database of mass public shootings using public data, with the shooters coded on over 200 different variables, including location and racial profile. What do we know about supermarket mass shootings? Only one shooting in our database prior to 2019 took place at a supermarket. In 1999, a 23-year-old white male with a history of criminal violence killed four people at a supermarket in Las Vegas. However, there has been a raft of mass shootings at American supermarkets since.

by James Densley, Metropolitan State University and Jillian Peterson, Hamline University Whenever a school shooting takes place like the one at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit on November 30, 2021, it is typically followed by a familiar chorus of questions. How could such a thing happen? Why doesn’t the government do more to stop these shootings from occurring? Those questions are even more urgent in light of the fact that the shooting at Oxford High School was one of 222 school shootings in 2021, an all-time high, according to the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s K-12 School Shooting Database. That’s over 100 more school shootings in 2021 than in 2019 or 2018, respectively the second- and third-worst years on record. In the Oxford High School case, a 15-year-old boy armed with a semiautomatic handgun is accused of killing four students and injuring six others and a teacher. As shown in our 2021 book, “The Violence Project: How to Stop a Mass Shooting Epidemic,” school mass shooters tend to be current or former students of the school. They...

Mark Zuckerberg does. © Provided by NBC Sports Replay Video SETTINGS OFF HD HQ SD LO Skip Ad The NBA came into this season cracking down on “abnormal, abrupt, or overt movements” to draw fouls — shooters leaping unnaturally sideways (or forward) into defenders, shooters kicking out legs and making other non-basketball moves to draw a whistle. To use Steve Kerr’s analogy, NBA referees were no longer blowing whistles award free throws on calls that would have started a fight if called in a playground game. IF you're a gamer whose aim is a little off on your favourite shooter, there's a quick and easy way to help. Your PC monitor may come with a setting to help you vanquish foes with better accuracy than ever before. 2Using your PC monitor's built-in crosshair can help to improve your aimCredit: Activision / Sledgehammer Games It's a tactic that's divided the gaming community for years, with some calling it resourceful and others branding it cheating. Pricier gaming monitors are more likely to offer the setting, which overlays a crosshair onto your display regardless of the game you're playing. A crosshair is typically a circle or 'x' symbol in the middle of your screen that represents where your shots will land. Most first and third-person shooters – including those in the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises – show one by default on your screen. However, even CoD removes the crosshair when you're sprinting or performing other in-game actions. And games like Rust, for instance, don't give players a crosshair at all.
