Art can heal. It’s not the same kind of healing you get in a hospital, but there is a certain power in the kind of healing you get from a piece of theater that rejuvenates you, from musicians that bring life to your spirit and from works that take difficult subjects and find moments of redemption and rejuvenation through the journey. If you’re in need of a refresher, head to the Capri this weekend for Ashawnti Sakina Ford’s new theatrical ritual, or delve into the darkest places searching for light in “Considering Matthew Shepard,” put on by The Singers. Next Wednesday, discover ways that theater can offer solutions to social issues like mental health and homelessness when zAmya performs at the downtown Minneapolis library. Other picks this week offer simply a lift to your spirit through beautiful music, like the Bach Society of Minnesota presenting the “B Minor Mass,” or the Bossa Nova Trio dancing up your dinner at Icehouse with Brazilian sounds. Wherever this week takes you, look for ways that the arts can soothe, stir and offer renewed...
New York (CNN Business)Two passengers that flew on one of Blue Origin's supersonic flights to the edge of space have shared footage of the 10-minute journey captured behind the scenes or inside the capsule during flight, giving a rare glimpse into the full experience.Cameron Bess — who rode alongside their father, venture capitalist Lane Bess — filmed their journey from the time they arrived at Blue Origin's Astronaut Village, an encampment of decked-out Airstream trailers where Blue Origin customers stay during their three-day training regimen. And Dylan Taylor, a lifelong space enthusiast-turned-investor in the burgeoning private space sector, shared almost the entirety of the journey as viewed from inside the capsule, from the time the passengers strapped in until they touched back down on terra firma. Bess and Taylor flew alongside Good Morning America host Michael Strahan, and the daughter of the late NASA astronaut Alan Shepard, Laura Shepard Churchley, in a flight that took off on December 11, 2021. Strahan and Shepard Churchley both flew free of charge as honored guests, while Bess and Taylor were among four paying...

Getty New York Giants add a wideout to the mix. No team has been ravaged by injury more than the New York Giants this season — that’s just fact. According to ESPN, they’ve placed an NFL-leading 23 players on injured reserve and have had 68 starts missed due to injury. The injury bug has taken a particular liking towards the receiver position. On December 8 the team made a move to help combat that, re-signing Travis Toivonen to their practice squad. A former four-year starter at North Dakota, the 6-foot-4-inch, 212-pound Toivonen finished his collegiate career with 139 catches for 1,719 yards and 13 touchdowns, including seven scores as a senior. Undrafted in 2020, Toivonen recently spend time with the Zappers of the Fan Controlled Football League, which is co-owned by Minnesota Vikings star Dalvin Cook. Catching passes from the likes of Johnny Manziel — not a typo — Toivonen led the league in 2021 in both receiving yards (204) and receiving touchdowns (five). He was later signed by the Seattle Seahawks in June but ultimately released on...
(CNN)Brooke Shields does not look back with fondness on an interview from the 1980s with Barbara Walters. In a conversation with Dax Shepard for his "Armchair Expert" podcast, Shields recalled being interviewed by Walters when she was 15, following her famous Calvin Klein jeans campaign. Shields reflected on Walters asking her a series of questions that she now feels were invasive. Among them being, "what are your measurements?" and "Do you have any secrets from your mother?""It's practically criminal," Shields told Shepard. "It's not journalism."Shepard agreed and called it "maddening."The ad campaign in which a teen Shields asked "You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing," catapulted her modeling career and stirred controversy. Read More"I was naive, I didn't think anything of it," Shields recalled. "I didn't think it had to do with underwear. I didn't think it was sexual in nature. I'd say that about my sister, nobody could come between me and my sister.""If they had intended on the double entendre, they didn't explain it to me," she added. "It didn't faze me. It didn't...
New York Giants: 3 positive takeaways from loss to Denver in Week 1 Alexander Wilson September 13, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit Finding any positive takeaways in the New York Giants’ opening game loss to the Denver Broncos is difficult, but there were a few individual performances that did stand out. Despite the defense failing to get the job done in coverage and the offense looking as anemic as ever, harping on the negatives is the easy way out. Three positive takeaways for the New York Giants: 1.) Pass protection was overall solid Going into Week 1 against Denver, the biggest concern for the Giants was is the offensive line, which held up relatively well in pass protection. Aside from the Giants only recording 60 rushing yards, including 27 from Daniel Jones, the third-year quarterback did toss 267 yards worth of passing production. The OL gave him adequate time in the pocket to make his reads and connect with his receivers, but it simply wasn’t...

A BALL that an astronaut claimed to have “lost” on the moon with a massive golf swing has been found 50 years later - just yards from the teeing off point. Heroic astronaut Alan Shepard famously brought a makeshift six iron and balls to the surface of earth’s nearest neighbour during his 1971 Apollo 14 Mission. 3Alan Shepard famously brought a makeshift six iron and balls to the moonCredit: AP:Associated Press 3Commander Shepard claimed one ball had travelled 'miles and miles'.Credit: NASA Commander Shepard hit two balls and claimed the first went into a crater but that the second travelled “miles and miles”. But newly restored images of the mission landing site suggest that the first went just 24 yards from Shepard’s ‘teeing off’ point, while the second flew just 40 yards. Image specialist Andy Saunders painstakingly enhanced high-resolution scans of the footage from the original mission.  This revealed that the second ball had travelled just 40 yards rather than “miles” and “miles” as Shepard had claimed. Despite the revelation Saunders told the BBC that the fact Shephard was able to hit the ball while on...

(CBSDFW.COM/CNN) — Blue Origin, the rocket venture founded by Jeff Bezos, launched its space tourism rocket from its West Texas test site to the edge of Earth’s atmosphere on Tuesday, marking the first test flight of the rocket in nearly a year. It marked the 13th test flight of New Shepard, as the vehicle is called, but it still has yet to fly with humans on board. Blue Origin wants to eventually send paying customers on brief joy rides to the edge of space, but the company has not started selling tickets, nor has it announced a price. So far, the vehicle has only carried science experiments and, at one point, a test dummy nicknamed Mannequin Skywalker. The launch was livestreamed on YouTube, where it currently has nearly 190,000 views. During the webcast, Blue Origin CEO Bob Smith said only that the company is “very close” to being ready to fly humans. New Shepard consists of two pieces — a small, dome-shaped capsule with gaping rectangular windows, and a 60-foot-tall rocket booster that blasts the capsule up to three times...
