Netflix is facing what can only be described as a nightmare scenario as customers continue to abandon the far-left streaming entertainment giant in droves, threatening the company’s financial stability. Shares of Netflix plummeted more than 20 percent in after-hours trading Tuesday after the streamer reported catastrophic results for the first quarter. $NFLX -25% pic.twitter.com/ChqjpC0Qxr — Joe Weisenthal (@TheStalwart) April 19, 2022 So far this year, Netflix shares are down a staggering 55 percent. Netflix, which still has a production deal with Barack and Michelle Obama, said it lost 200,000 subscribers for the first quarter of the year — a huge miss for the company, which had expected to add 2.5 million subscribers. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast, File) Even more troublesome, leaders are forecasting Netflix will lose a whopping 2 million more subscribers this spring — potentially the largest quarterly loss of customers in its history. The guidance paints a bleak financial outlook for Netflix, whose main revenue stream is paying customers. In a letter to investors, Netflix blamed password sharing and increased competition from other streamers including Disney+ and Amazon Prime...

INDIANAPOLIS — The Jets are planning on picking up Quinnen Williams’ fifth-year option. The No. 3 overall pick from the 2019 draft class finished his third season with six sacks, seven tackles for loss and 12 QB hits in 15 games. He ranked in the top two on the Jets in all three categories. He added 42 run stops, 25th among defensive linemen in the NFL. “As of right now, we are going to pick up Quinnen’s options,” GM Joe Douglas said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “We had that conversation, and I don’t think that’s really huge news. But we are going to pick up that option moving forward and look, we’re excited to have Quinnen. This is going to be Year 2 in a defense that we feel really accentuates his strengths, his positives and looking forward to him coming back and dominate this offseason and have a great year.” Even though Williams didn’t take a further step forward in production after his 2020 year, the former Alabama star is still the Jets’ best defensive...
Late in the third quarter Monday night, with the Chicago Bears trying to capitalize on a drive that began at the Minnesota Vikings 30-yard line, the entire season was essentially summarized in one snap. A few minutes earlier, running back Damien Williams tipped a Vikings punt, setting up prime field position for the offense. Trying to cut into a 17-3 deficit and get inside the red zone, the Bears faced fourth-and-1 from the 21. In 8 seconds of familiar sloppiness, promise turned into agitation, hope into full-on annoyance. A bit of confusion. Disrupted timing. A pass that never was thrown. Or a scramble that never began. The play’s result: Quarterback Justin Fields was sacked for a 2-yard loss. Thousands of mystified head shakes seemed to circle the Soldier Field stands like the wave. Down went Fields, corralled along the right sideline by linebacker Nick Vigil, then wrestled to the grass by defensive end D.J. Wonnum. Turnover on downs. More of this? Really? That brand of discombobulation defined the entire night in a...
(CNN)President Joe Biden on Wednesday lamented new data showing American drug overdose deaths topped 100,000 annually for the first time, saying that "we cannot overlook this epidemic of loss, which has touched families and communities across the country." More than 100,000 people died of drug overdoses in the United States during the 12-month period ending April 2021, according to provisional data published Wednesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That's a new record high, with overdose deaths jumping 28.5% from the same period one year earlier.RELATED: Biden administration grapples with American addiction as overdose deaths hit a record highExperts have told CNN that the Covid-19 pandemic and the rise in use of fentanyl have both been key contributors to the rising overdose death toll. In a statement discussing his administration's efforts to combat rising overdose deaths, Biden cited $4 billion in funding from the Covid-19 relief package. Provisions in the package, known as the American Rescue Plan, are aimed at expanding services for substance use disorder and mental health. The President said his administration is also "working...

Predicting the win-loss record for every ACC football team for the 2021 season. Will Clemson sit atop the conference once again this season, or will teams such as North Carolina and Miami present a challenge for the Tigers? The ACC received a fresh look at the top of the conference a year ago with Notre Dame finishing regular-season play sitting atop the league at 9-0 after joining for the 2020 season. However, the Fighting Irish fell to Clemson in the ACC Championship game, a familiar sight in recent years for ACC opponents. Syracuse football record prediction: 4-8After finishing last in the ACC a year ago, the Orange should be improved, but not enough to contend in the Atlantic division this season.Virginia football record prediction: 6-6The Cavaliers may struggle in ACC play, but have two non-conference matchups against Notre Dame and BYU that will be a tough test as well.Virginia Tech football record prediction: 7-5Arguably the Hokies biggest game of the season comes via a Week 1 showdown with North Carolina at home, but a mid-season home game against Notre Dame,...

DENVER (CBS4) – It’s been nearly year since learning left the classroom and went remote in response to the pandemic. The inconsistency since has caused a variety of issues. The 20 best found-footage horror films The History of Super Bowl Ad Spending After loss to #5 Houston, NAIA program Our Lady of the Lake is 1-4 playing exclusively D-1 teams this season If you checked college basketball scores today, you saw #5 Houston winning in blowout fashion. © Provided by The Comeback That’s not unusual; Houston is good! But the team they beat, Our Lady of the Lake, may have given you reason to take a second look. That would have also been warranted, just for the name alone. But the San Antonio-based school also has a pretty interesting story this season. The NAIA program went 10-18 last season, and this year they’ve had multiple games postponed or canceled. In fact, so far, that applies to their entire NAIA schedule. They’ve played just five games on the year, and all of them have been against Division 1 opposition. That’s thanks to smaller conference schools needing to fill out their own schedules after games have been lost, some of them added at the last minute. Gallery: 5 keys for...
A member of Ryanair cabin crew looks out of the window at Ryanair planes.NurPhoto | NurPhoto | Getty Images LONDON — Ryanair expects this fiscal year to be "the most challenging" in its 35 year-history, the company said on Monday, as governments step up travel restrictions in an effort to contain new variants of Covid-19. The budget airline is on track for a net loss of between 850 million euros ($1.03 billion) and 950 million euros for its 2021 fiscal year, ending in March. It reported a net loss of 306 million euros for the three months ending in December. "Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc across the industry," Ryanair said in a statement. It added that Christmas and New Year traffic "was severely impacted" by travel bans imposed on U.K. travelers in late December. A number of European governments decided to impose restrictions on flights leaving the U.K. before Christmas after news that a new variant of Covid-19 identified in the county was spreading quickly. This contributed to a 83% drop in traffic in the month of December for Ryanair.The...

Tax-loss selling is not as easy as it looks. I’m referring to the practice of selling in December those stocks you hold at a loss, in order to offset the capital gains you’ve already realized and on which you will otherwise have to pay tax. While this seems straightforward, it quickly becomes complicated. That’s because of the IRS’s so-called wash-sale rule, which prevents you from using the tax loss of any stock you’ve sold if you buy it back within 30 days. That’s something you would want to avoid, since previously beaten-down stocks have some of their best weeks of the year once tax-loss selling abates. Much or all of that rebound takes place when the wash-sale rule prevents you from holding these stocks. This is illustrated in the chart below, which reflects monthly data back to 1926. Notice that the trailing year’s worst-performing stocks continue to lose money in December, but stage a strong rebound in January. To put their strong January returns in context, consider that on an annualized basis it’s equivalent to a 55% gain. The...
SANTA CLARA — When it comes to Jimmy Garoppolo’s 49ers future, there are two time periods to consider. First is this season’s remaining six games. Coach Kyle Shanahan is “holding out hope” Garoppolo returns from an ankle injury fro the final few, so long as the 49ers (4-6) rally enough to “come back for a reason.” More pertinent to the 49ers’ long-term outlook is whether Garoppolo will return in 2021, with a $24 million salary in each of the final two seasons of his contract. Shanahan endorsed that but did not guarantee Garoppolo a job, nor anyone else, for that matter. “I mean, I expect Jimmy to be our starter,” Shanahan said of next season. “I expect him to come play with us this year. We have six games left. We are not out of the playoffs yet. “I’ve been on a team that was 3-6 going into the bye week that ended up winning their division. We have guys on this team capable of finishing this the right way. I hope Jimmy can come back...

Juul Labs now has a valuation of around $10billion, down some $28billion from two years ago when Altria Group Inc. secured a 35 per cent stake of the company, employees were told on Thursday.  Regulatory crackdowns, lawsuits and investigations about marketing geared towards teens have leveled the sales and market shares for the company.  Last month, Juul announced that it was cutting more than half of its workforce and also considering pulling its overseas markets.    'We made some difficult decisions that impacted our short-term outlook, but we believe these choices will enable us to create value in the future,' CEO KC Crosthwaite said in the Thursday memo to staff, the Wall Street Journal reports.   Juul reported a loss of $423million on sales of $764million for the first half of the year, the company informed employees Juul's annualized operating expenses have dropped from $2.6billion to less than $1billion since Crosthwaite took over in September 2019, he said in the memo.  The company now has a more stable cash position, he claimed, which will allow for investments in scientific research, new...
Colorado is losing billionaires. And most of the remaining members of this very exclusive club are leaking net worth during the global downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Five Colorado residents made the 2020 Forbes 400, released last month, which tracks the richest Americans; all of them are billionaires. In 2017, Colorado boasted ten billionaires; this year, according to a real-time update from Forbes, that number is down to eight, with all but one of the survivors ranked lower among the world's 2,000-plus billionaires than they were three years ago. The majority are also worth less money overall, and one entry is down by more than two-thirds, suffering a loss in net worth of nearly $4 billion in just the last month. The two Coloradans who didn't make Forbes's cut this year are Cargill MacMillan III and William MacMillan, who tied for ninth on the 2017 roster and 1,678th on the magazine's billionaires rundown that year; each was reported to have assets valued at $1.24 billion. Three years ago, they were two of fourteen related billionaires who owned control of Cargill, Inc., which...
