Pregnant women who take over-the-counter painkillers have a higher risk of their babies being harmed in the womb. Researchers tracked more than 150,000 pregnancies over three decades to look at women who took aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol, naproxen and diclofenac while expecting their baby. Women who used at least one of the five painkillers were 33 per cent more likely to suffer a stillbirth and were 28 per cent more likely to have a baby with a low birth weight. Ten babies said to have been born to one mother are currently fighting for their lives at a hospital in South Africa, the infants' aunt has claimed.   The aunt, who has not been publicly identified, said mother Gosiame Sithole is also recovering in the same Pretoria hospital after giving birth to five of the children naturally and another five by Caesarean section on Monday. '[The babies] are still in incubators fighting for their lives. They came at 29 weeks; the mother is still weak... This is a sensitive issue,' the woman told TimesLIVE.  Meanwhile unemployed father Tebogo Tsotetsi flew to Cape Town on Wednesday to accept a £50,000 donation for the children's care while insisting the world will get to see them 'at the right time' - as doubt remains over the authenticity of the birth. Tsotetsi claims his wife gave birth to decuplets - seven boys and three girls - overnight Monday after a 'natural' pregnancy, even though such births are almost always the result of fertility treatments. Since then a number of relatives have come forward to insist that the...
Thomas Markle and Prince Charles are unlikely to meet their new grandchild anytime soon due to ongoing rifts with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, royal experts have claimed. Prince Harry and Meghan who are based in Montecito, California, welcomed their second child Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, on Friday 4 June. Their daughter weighed 7 lbs 11 oz, and the couple announced her birth at 5pm today through their Archewell website, rather than through Buckingham Palace, like they did for their son, Archie. The statement from the couple - who have quit royal duties since the birth of their firstborn - also used american spellings such as ‘honor’ when revealing the news. It's thought that Meghan's mother Doria Ragland has been among the first relatives to greet the newborn, as she was close by her daughter's side after the arrival of Archie in 2019.   However, royal biographer Robert Jobson, has explained why it's unlikely we'll see the other grandparents sharing in the joy of a face-to-face meeting. He told FEMAIL: 'As it stands it...

Parents' sleep schedules often do not return to pre-pregnancy levels for up to six years after the birth of a first baby, a study has discovered. Mothers of newborns take on most of the parenting work and spend many a night up with the baby.  But those looking after their first child are more likely to have better sleep than mothers on their second or third. Mothers of newborns take on most of the parenting work and spend many a night up with the baby Sleep disruption is often due to infants typically sleeping in short periods. A total of 111 parents had their sleep patterns studied after birth. The research by Canada’s McGill University was published in the Journal of Sleep Research. Mothers with one baby had less interrupted and better-quality sleep than those with more than one child. Researchers said this may be because they do not also have to care for older children.  Fathers tended to be able to sleep more because, in the sample, 96 per cent of them worked, ensuring mothers accepted more of the...

Some babies develop COVID-19 within hours of their birth, but it's not yet clear if the deadly virus was passed on during pregnancy. A University of NSW-led review of existing COVID-19 infection data found five out of 139 newborns from infected mothers were diagnosed within several hours or just days after birth. But confirming COVID-19 transmission from mother to newborn is difficult to verify and further research is needed to find out, senior study author Dr Nusrat Homaira of UNSW said in a statement on Wednesday. Some babies develop COVID-19 within hours of their birth, but it's not yet clear if the deadly virus was passed on during pregnancy (stock) 'More research is needed to understand if children born to women who have Covid-19 during pregnancy have an increased risk of acquiring the infection and what the long-term outcomes are for newborns with the disease,' she said. The findings could influence Australia's plans to vaccinate the population against the deadly disease in terms of vaccinating young children and mums-to-be. 'As the vaccine is being rolled out to the whole...
Thomas Ravenel is getting married and has described himself as 'Happily Engaged,' just five months after his new fiancée gave birth to a son, DailyMail.com can reveal. The ex-Southern Charm star managed to keep Mascoe's pregnancy a secret until two months before the birth when Kathryn Dennis, 29, mother of his two older children Kenzie, 6, and Saint, 5, was informed of the dramatic turn of events by her attorney. It is unclear whether or not he has spoken with Dennis about his plans...

Amima Mamtimin is pictured above with the son, Abdullah, she fled China to save When Amina Mamtimin became pregnant four years ago, she knew she must leave her country or the child would be killed.  ‘I was very happy to be having a baby but also so scared,’ she said. For like everyone in her city, she was aware what happened to pregnant Uighur women caught by the Chinese state.  ‘They are forced to have abortions and then stopped from having more kids. It was happening to almost everyone in my neighbourhood.’ Amina, 30, already had four children, which was two more than permitted, so had been hiding with them in their house near the city of Hotan, in China’s Xinjiang region. ‘For two years I barely left my home, not even to the market,’ she said. So the family decided to flee from Beijing’s hideous repression of Muslim minorities in western China. They had registered their third and fourth children as belonging to Amina’s sister, but knew they could not dupe Communist Party officials again. Yet when they...
