Ecuador rolled out the red carpet for Jill Biden on Thursday as she met with the country's president and first lady at the Carondelet Palace. President Guillermo Lasso and First Lady María de Lourdes Alcívar de Lasso put out the bells and whistles - a military band played, soldiers in ceremonial blue and white uniforms guarded the doors, and roses - which are a major export of Ecuador - decorated the courtyard. Jill Biden wore a white dress with blue butterflies.  She was greeted on a stage in the middle of the courtyard, where Ecuadorian and American flags made up the backdrop along with a row of ferns. On each side of the stage was a trellis filled with red, white, pink and yellow roses.  Mrs. Alcívar de Lasso waited for her, giving her a hug.  Photographers called for shots as the two women posed on a stage in the inner courtyard of the palace. 'Can we go?' Biden joked after a minute of camera shots. First Lady Jill Biden hugs the First Lady of Ecuador Maria de Lourdes Alcivar de Lasso...

London (CNN)It was the most poignant reminder we've had that Britain's aging Queen is in the twilight of her reign: Prince Charles sitting in the consort's throne in the Palace of Westminster, looking forlornly across to his mother's crown, which sat in her place. Elizabeth II has only missed the State Opening of Parliament twice before in her 70-year reign, both times because she was pregnant. This year she missed it because she simply couldn't get there, due to "mobility issues." All we know about these issues is that they are "episodic;" the palace won't divulge any further detail on her health, as they see it as a matter of patient confidentiality. What is clear is that the episodes are becoming more frequent and disruptive. The Queen keeps canceling engagements at the last minute, and that now includes the ones that were previously set in stone in her diary. Opening the new parliamentary session is a core constitutional responsibility for the British monarch. It can't happen without her, just like the signing of parliamentary bills into law and the appointment of new...

Meghan Markle 'hated' touring Australia with husband Prince Harry back in October 2018 and found the visit 'pointless,' according to former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown. The British writer revealed Meghan's feelings during her time Down Under in her new royal biography, 'The Palace Papers'. Brown, who was Princess Diana's diarist and had close ties with the royals, discovered Meghan's seemingly unimpressed opinion of Australia through a former Palace staffer.  When the Sussexes (pictured) arrived in Australia in October 2018, thousands of Australians gathered to see them in the flesh (pictured, the pair on the Opera House steps in Sydney during the trip) - something Meghan struggled to grasp 'the point' of When the Sussexes arrived in Australia in October 2018, thousands of Australians gathered from all corners of the country to see Harry and Meghan in the flesh. Princess Beatrice had a 'private family christening' for her seven-month-old daughter Sienna at St James's Palace on Friday, it has emerged. Around a dozen friends of the Queen’s granddaughter, 33, and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi, 38, joined the couple for the hour-long service, held at the palace’s Chapel Royal in London, according to The Sun. A source said: ‘It was a private family event.’ However, Her Majesty, 96, was thought to be absent from the ceremony as she held two virtual audiences from Windsor Castle. After reportedly attending the ceremony with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 62, Prince Andrew was seen spotted driving in Windsor on Saturday. The Queen’s appearance on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to mark the finale of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations is ‘by no means guaranteed’, a well-placed source has told The Mail on Sunday. It was hoped the Queen might appear on the iconic balcony beside other members of her family, but that now looks in doubt due to the 96-year-old’s restricted mobility. Aides are busy devising a ‘plan B’. An insider said: ‘It could still happen but it is by no means guaranteed that we will see the Queen on the balcony during the Jubilee.’ Appearances on the famous balcony, which overlooks The Mall, has been a focal point for historic Royal occasions. Royal newlyweds have appeared there to share a kiss for the crowds below and the Royal Family traditionally gathers on the balcony to wave after the annual Trooping the Colour parade. SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Wilfried Zaha came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner for Crystal Palace against Southampton in the English Premier League on Saturday. Oriol Romeu gave Southampton an early lead but Eberechi Eze scored his first goal of the season in the second half and a moment of magic from Zaha saw Palace leave St Mary’s with a 2-1 result and all three points. Patrick Vieira’s side moved above Southampton and within touching distance of the top half of the table with four left to play. Romeu gave Southampton the lead in the ninth minute when he rose above Joel Ward at the far post to head a corner in off the crossbar. With the primary objective of survival already achieved, the pressure was off both sides, making for an open game. Palace looked the more threatening after the break and deservedly equalized when Jordan Ayew fed former Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne and his deep cross was volleyed between Fraser Forster’s legs by Eze. It was Eze’s first goal since tearing his Achilles last May, with...
As famed author and editor Tina Brown recounts in her new book about the British royal family, Meghan Markle saw marrying Prince Harry as a way to realize her ambition to become the next Angelina Jolie — a glamorous star whose side gig as a UN goodwill ambassador allows her to travel the world “in her halo, talking about hunger and refugees.” In hindsight, it’s easy to see why Meghan’s royal experiment failed so spectacularly. As Brown explains in “The Palace Papers” and in interviews to promote the book, there is plenty of blame to go around. Brown also writes that Meghan and Harry’s part in their vexatious exit from royal life in 2020 has left both, but Meghan especially, in a precarious position.
