One hundred and ten years ago this week, the Titanic was holed by an iceberg in the mid-Atlantic and sank with the loss of more than 1,500 lives. The tragedy threw up many heroes — and one villain. But has he been unfairly blamed for his actions that night? Bruce Ismay turned in for the night on the luxury liner that was his latest masterpiece.  A fastidious gentleman, he probably trimmed his immaculate Kaiser Wilhelm moustache and brushed his neatly cut hair before climbing into his pyjamas, freshly pressed and laid out by his valet, Richard, then into the comfortable master bed of what was more a plush suite than a cabin. B52-56 on the Bridge deck, taking up the space of five normal-sized First Class cabins, was the owner’s cabin, built with no expense spared for the ultimate boss of the shipping company, the fabulously wealthy American banker J .P. Morgan. But he had declined a trip on this maiden transatlantic voyage from Southampton to New York, so Ismay, the 49-year-old Liverpool-born chairman of the White Star Line —...

However, because the court does not find sufficient evidence to support the mens rea or intent required for the charges at issue, as defined by Missouri law, the court dismisses each count against each defendant," he wrote. The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning prosecutors can retry the case. The dismissal is the latest legal development in a case full of fits and starts.Read MoreThe charges stem from the fatal sinking of a duck boat -- an amphibious vehicle that travels on land and water -- at a lake near Branson, a popular family vacation spot. ELUSIVE artist Banksy could have resurfaced after a poignant painting of children dressed as pirates appeared on the wall of a park. The artwork, which appears to be in the famously secretive artist's style, shows three children wearing paper hats. 3A new potential Banky has appeared in a Suffolk parkCredit: PA 3Banksy is yet to confirm the artworkCredit: PA The art uses a piece of metal left to look like a boat that the children are playing in. And scrawled above the artwork are the words "we're all in the same boat" One child looks ahead as though out to sea, another child behind looks over their shoulder, and a third child at the back of the boat appears to be leaning over the side holding a bucket. The abandoned piece of metal used to create the illusion has since been removed from Nicholas Everitt Park in Lowestoft. Meanwhile, another artwork has been spotted on a wall outside an old electrical shop in the same town which appears to show a child next to a sand castle. A slab next...
The 11-year-old boy who died at an Iowa water park on Saturday became trapped underwater by a seatbelt after their raft flipped over on the Raging River ride.  Michael Jaramillo was in the raft with his older brother David, father David and mother, at the Adventureland water park in Altoona, Iowa.  The raft flipped while all four were buckled in. The boys tried to save one another in the fast moving current but couldn't, their father said on Tuesday. David, the older boy, remains in the hospital in a critical condition.  In an interview with Good Morning America on Tuesday, the boys' parents David and Sabrina told how they all struggled to unclip their seatbelts when the ride capsized.  'When it flipped over, all of us were trapped in seats and seatbelts. I see the silhouettes of my sons trying to grab each other, grab us. They wanted us to help them but we couldn't do it,' David, whose arm was in a sling, said.  'I feel like Adventureland robbed me of my baby. I wont ever get a chance to see...
When boat captain Jennifer Dowker saw a small green bottle at the bottom of the Cheboygan River, she picked it up, thinking it might keep a prospective client interested in scuba diving.  Little did she know she had found something that would interest many more than just the one client.  Dowker is the owner of Nautical North Family Adventures, which runs shipwreck tours and scuba diving lessons in Cheboygan, Michigan. Last week, while she was cleaning the bottom of her glass-bottomed boat, the Yankee Sunshine, she found a message in a bottle dated 1926. The world's first AI-powered, all-electric hydrofoil boat — which automatically stabilises itself a smoother ride — has been demonstrated at the Venice Boat Show. The craft — the Candela C-7 — was presented today at the second iteration of the nautical event, which is being held at the Venetian Arsenal until June 6, 2021. The long-range boat, which has a range of 50 nautical miles, is able to decrease its water friction by up to 80 per cent by rising out of the water up onto its hydrofoils. This makes the all-electric craft — which retails for around £192,000 — competitive with its fossil fuel-driven peers, sporting a maximum speed of 30 knots.  In fact, the C-7 has three times the range of most electric boats. (CBS Local)– It’s been almost 40 years since a commercial fishing boat named Wind Blown left Montauk Harbor and never returned. Four men were on that boat and neither the bodies nor the boat were ever recovered. A new book from author and journalist Amanda Fairbanks called “The Lost Boys of Montauk” takes a look back at the tragedy and features conversations with the family members who lost husbands, brothers and sons. CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith caught up with Fairbanks to discuss what it was like to write the book and why it was important to have an outside perspective on this story. READ MORE: Jersey Shore Businesses Gearing Up For Unofficial Start Of Summer, But Some Say Staffing Shortages Are Taking A Toll “I’m a longtime print and newspaper reporter and this is my first book. It took me about three and a half years,” said Fairbanks. “Once I had 10,000 interview notes on my computer, I felt like this was not a newspaper or a magazine story, but the beginnings of a book. I interviewed over 100 people and...
The ex-wife of missing Sarm Heslop's boyfriend still lives in fear of him seven years after their divorce - and now carries a gun with her at all times, DailyMail.com can reveal.  Cori Stevenson, 43, who was married to Ryan Bane between 2008 and 2014, claims her ex-husband has a history of violence - and animal cruelty - that still haunts her to this day. Getty The Golden State Warriors All-Star and starting shooting guard Klay Thompson is certainly missed by his team. With him, they’re a potential NBA title contender and one of the better teams in the league overall. Without him, they’re currently, a 16-15 team that is looking for their identity outside of their superstar guard and two-time MVP Steph Curry. Once Thompson is able to return next season, fully healthy, Golden State will be in a position to be their usual high-competing selves, or even better if they’re able to secure another high draft pick compliments of the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, when Thompson is able to attend some of the Warriors’ home games he has a unique way of getting there according to one of the assistant coaches. (CNN)"Let Them All Talk" is as breezy as an ocean cruise (pre-Covid), and mostly a welcome excuse to enjoy its three septuagenarian leads -- Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen and Dianne Wiest -- as they banter their way across the Atlantic. Yet director Steven Soderbergh also offers some surprises, steering this polished little film in unexpected directions. At its heart the movie -- written by novelist Deborah Eisenberg -- is a sort-of mystery: Streep's Alice, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, is scheduled to receive a prestigious award in the UK. Because she can't fly for health reasons, the publisher opts to book her on an ocean liner to get there, and grudgingly allows her to bring three companions. She invites two old friends, Barbara and Susan (played by Bergen and Wiest), with whom she hasn't communicated for decades, creating a puzzle about why she offered, and why they (especially Barbara) accepted."Here's to picking up the conversation where we left off," Alice says as the journey begins, which only raises more questions.Rounding out the group is her nephew, Tyler (Lucas Hedges), and surreptitiously, a representative...
